every single time we walk into that shop we argue so bad i think a divorce is on the cards. Then when we get home and have to build the crappy furniture with their sub standard instructions we have yet another row. currently sulking whilst my husband is swearing and crashing about. please tell me it’s not just us!

What I love most about going to Ikea, is going alone.

KingLooieCatz · 27/08/2018 16:56

Whenever I get to the collection point and there is one crucial piece missing from the set of shelves you've spent two hours agreeing on, and that's after taking the Dartford crossing each way into account, it's a constant surprise to me that they don't have more concerted smash ups. They should have alarm bells you can press whenever it kicks off and incident trained staff that come running in black overalls with riot shields and visors. Once they've established a cordon around the scene the trained negotiators are deployed, with earpieces that link directly to the command suite that they have permanently set up in a secure area. There are protocols you have to follow in these situations.

And getting a kids meal for me.

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 27/08/2018 16:56

Spaces not species !

Missingstreetlife · 27/08/2018 16:57

Ikea is evil, shop online or go to a proper shop

IJustLostTheGame · 27/08/2018 16:57

I love building Ikea furniture.
I LOVE IT.
It's giant technic Lego.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 27/08/2018 16:58

We had meatballs at home on Saturday, then around 7:30 DH said "shall we go to IKEA to look at that sofa you wanted?". So off we went, me thinking it would be ok cos it was the evening. But bloody hell it was awful, full of people dawdling and wandering aimlessly pushing their trolleys reeaaallyy slowly, abandoning them mid walkway to gather up random DC. Who goes en famille to IKEA on a BH Saturday night?
Thankfully I'd made a shortlist of sofas online and been there to weed them down to one (plus that lovely new armchair they've got), so as to minimise time in there. DH still spent half an hour sitting on all the sofas despite me telling him they won't get into our new place. Sigh.
I have a love/hate thing going on with IKEA

Dumbledoresgirl · 27/08/2018 16:58

My nearest Ikea has a creche.... Confused Or do you mean a creche for adults ALemonyPea?

I can't stand the shop or the shopping experience, but I quite enjoy putting the furniture together, and I don't think it is crappy anymore, apart from the bookcases maybe which always fall apart sooner or later. I go on my own too.

Timeisslippingaway · 27/08/2018 17:02

SheWoreBlueVelvet
My do does this aswell. He gets bowls from the kitchen for dress etc. Does my head in.

I bloody love Ikea I need a trip there asap!

Westworldmaeve · 27/08/2018 17:03

Oh I quite like Ikea! My DH always gets a bit stressed so this is what we do: he brings me there by car and then drives off doing whatever. I have a really nice shop and then call him to pick me up drag a zillion kilo's to the car because I only went in for 1 tea towel. DH is in charge of getting the stuff home and sort of in the right place hauling it up two flights of stairs. I then build the stuff myself, which is much, much easier than trying to listen to the stubborn man who refuses to follow the directions. This works great for us, DH is happy because doesn't have to shop, I'm happy because shopping and new furniture.

Blobby10 · 27/08/2018 17:04

I broke my IKEA virginity yesterday - not because we need anything but because I felt the need to see what all the fuss was about!!! Wasn't impressed tbh and had more fun with OH trying to work out the short cuts¬ Maybe we needed to go specifically for something rather than on a wander Grin

Frogletmamma · 27/08/2018 17:05

We love it. We meaningfully discuss things like kitchens and bathrooms, then we buy scissors, tea spoons and hot dogs. A good day out and as we never get around to bathrooms etc. not many £s

Vitalogy · 27/08/2018 17:05

Did you get your meatballs though.

Frogletmamma · 27/08/2018 17:09

Much later...

Timeoftheseason · 27/08/2018 17:09

DH and I rarely argue but we have done in Ikea twice. Thankfully!, I'm too disabled to cope with the bastard place anymore.
We have however discovered an outlet place that has loads of flatpack furniture locally.

Maxineputyourredshoeson · 27/08/2018 17:09

I got all the way to 37 without going to an ikea, my MIL had our DC so we decided to go. It was a 100 mile round trip and we managed to buy an 80p pack of coat hangers Grin Don’t think we’ll go back again.

Frusso · 27/08/2018 17:12

We love ikea. Never had an argument there.
also go for family days out. We have the choice of 3, and have to say that one of them is awful. It's all down to layout and staffing.

mothersanonymous · 27/08/2018 17:13

My family is like the Vin Trapps
That's me Wine

crenellations · 27/08/2018 17:14

Despite our best intentions to go early we usually rock up about lunchtime then have a massive queue for lunch before we even start shopping. On my way in we see families walking out with their flatpack boxes and want to shake their hands for being in and out successfully, before lunch, with dc!

OlennasWimple · 27/08/2018 17:16

It's all good unless DH lets me into the bargain corner, where I get unreasonable hankerings off slightly scratched bookcases and too large sofas that they are selling for 50p

Katescurios · 27/08/2018 17:16

Most important thing to remember about ikea is to charge your electric screwdriver and not lose the Allen key attachment.

When you don’t have to hand turn eleventy billion goddamn Allen headed screws you enjoy the assembly much more

shoelaces · 27/08/2018 17:18

DH has veto'd IKEA trips and will only attend 1 per year. He just recently melted a chopping board by putting a hot pan on it, then kicked a football in the house and broke 2 picture frames. All from IKEA. He is very very sorry indeed.

sittingonacornflake · 27/08/2018 17:18

But the MASSIVE bars of chocolate with pieces of daim bar in makes any divorce worthwhile surely she says whilst bitterly single

Lollypop27 · 27/08/2018 17:19

We have a great time in ikea and we don’t even argue putting the furniture together at home but...

We are the couple who is stood arguing in the car park trying to fit a sofa in to a mini!!

HashTagLil · 27/08/2018 17:19

I love Ikea, but hate the claustrophobic feel that once I'm in the store maze, I can't find the toilets or the exit.

Not good for my IBS.
