Nigella and Saatchi. Liam and Debbie. Primitive man in action

Pictures of Liam Gallagher doing 'a Saatchi' to his girlfriend. Liam says be didn't. Girlfriend says he didn't. Photo unmistakably says he did. Why do we women collude with our oppressors in this way?

And this thread title has made me furious in light of the footage. Primitive man in action??? Doing a Saatchi???

These kinds of titles minimise domestic violence. Sort it out.

glintandglide · 26/08/2018 10:52

I think it’s unfair to assume she’s desperate to blag/ stay with a celebrity. As a poster above said lots of relationships are like this and they stay together for all sorts of reasons

stormymcstormface · 26/08/2018 10:52

Please don’t peddle the argument of situational couple violence - if it is that, it is certainly is toxic. If it isn’t it will make her feel responsible for his violence and make her less likely to seek the help that she needs

Teachtolive · 26/08/2018 10:52

On a complete aside, anyone know why the Sun put a black bar across her eyes in the photo despite naming her and printing several other uncensored pictures of her??

HolyMountain · 26/08/2018 10:54

Why both deny it, it’s there for all to see.

He’s a nasty abusive twat and a shit musician to boot.

lowtide · 26/08/2018 10:54

I meant ambiguous as in I can’t see clearly from the footage that he actually grabbed her. It looks like she’s ducked away from him. Saying that’s because he does it often is pure conjecture.

I’m not sticking up for him, I just think if she’s decided to come out and say he’s not violent towards her we have to listen. Perhaps in time we might find out that’s a lie. But it’s up to her to give out that information, not people guessing on the internet .
If he is violent, I hope this gives her the courage to leave.

Truckingonandon · 26/08/2018 10:56

There's nothing ambiguous about that video. It's perfectly clear what's happening.

There are definite tones of victim blaming on here though. The only one guilty of violent, belittling actions here is that prince amongst men, LG.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 26/08/2018 10:56

Hardly surprised

His temper and aggression has been known about for years at one point it was celebrated Hmm

Sommelierrrr · 26/08/2018 10:57

I am so angry that posters here are jumping to situational couple violence to explain the footage. I suggest you all head over to the relationships section to read the sticky at the top, followed by Lundy Bancroft 'why does he do that'.

Never ever normalise couple violence in this way. It's not toxic it's abuse, and women do actually die weekly because of it.

MyBrexitUnicornDied · 26/08/2018 10:57

Liam Gallagher is, and always has been, a complete arsehole. It would be no surprise to me whatsoever to heat that he abuses women

This

LotsOfSemiColons · 26/08/2018 10:58

She looks so sad and humiliated and crushed right after he does it as well. Awful to see. But he’s always been a massive prick so I’m not remotely surprised unfortunately.

Sommelierrrr · 26/08/2018 11:00

And for anyone wondering why she might be denying it happened, Google cognitive dissonance and apply it to what she is going through.

She's not denying it because it didn't happen, as we can all see quite plainku. She was the victim of a sudden and vicious attack that looked very familiar to both of them.

feesh · 26/08/2018 11:00

It says in the article, “We have obscured her eyes in our images to conceal her distress at the moment of the attack”

Stepmum3 · 26/08/2018 11:01

She quite clearly has had that happen before. There are many reasons why women stay and I imagine she just accepts that’s who he is. He behaved violently towards Patsy Kensit.
He is very typical of men I have encountered who have done well money wise. Everyone else is a commodity and can be replaced. And I am sure he has told her that too.

N0bodysM0t · 26/08/2018 11:02

I know the answer to this one.

Pride. Ego. Shame.

Until you are ready to leave, and that is emotionally, practically and financially ready to take just that first step, then it is not socially acceptable to say "yes he is abusive, i know that, and yet im not ready to leave yet".

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/08/2018 11:06

I've never liked him. Not surprised at all. The apple hasn't fallen far from the tree there.

Noels lovely. He obviously loves his wife when he talks about her.

N0bodysM0t · 26/08/2018 11:06

And low self esteem of course.

TooTrueToBeGood · 26/08/2018 11:11

Nothing ambiguous about it at all, he lunged straight for her throat. Those of you suggesting she's covering for him because she's a gold digger who's bagged a A lister, shame on you. It's far more likely she's fucking terrified of him like pretty much every other victim of a violently abusive partner.

longwayoff · 26/08/2018 11:12

Moses I'm sorry you find the question weird. I say 'we women' to illustrate

  1. I am a woman. 2. I am asking other women a question about some women's behaviour. It's quite common behaviour and extremely damaging. If you have questions about menthen please ask someone else.
OP posts:
AnoukSpirit · 26/08/2018 11:17

Your ignorance is showing.

Cupoteap · 26/08/2018 11:18

Seeing the video she reacts just like a victim who has experienced this and worse before

OctaviaOctober · 26/08/2018 11:18

"Why do we women...?" Don't include all women! Why aren't you asking questions about men?

Ssshhh, we're not supposed to question men's behaviour you know that. We have to blame her for being subjected to it.

Teachtolive · 26/08/2018 11:20

feesh whoops, sorry I missed that bit.

LuluJakey1 · 26/08/2018 11:25

He is an arrogant, vile, minimally talented, deluded man who treats other people like shit, especially women. He has never been anything else. If he wasn't so disgusting he would be laughable- he really thinks he is a skilled musician, important and a style icon. He is ridiculous. His brother isn't much better.

That video- in my opinion- shows a woman who is scared and uncertain being assaulted and treated aggressively by a man who expects to get away with it. It is not a one-off incident. She shrinks back from him knowing what is coming and he swaggers.

If he had a big stick and a bull dog he could be Oliver Reed as Sykes in the film Oliver Twist.

His lying about it simply confirms his arrogance.

pigsDOfly · 26/08/2018 11:30

Nothing ambiguous about that video. He pushes her, grabs her throat and then goes off and leaves her. And then she sort of creeps away.

What do people expect her to say to a Sun reporter in response to the video - I'm assume it's a Sun reporter asking the questions - that the man she's married to is an abusive arsehole.

Hopefully given time she'll be able to do that. Currently she might not be ready to admit what he is.
