Oh dear... neighbours party has begun

We live in a semi detached house and it looks like most of the evenings partying will be going on in their fairly small garden which is currently filled with a marquee complete with speakers Hmm
They don't do this all that often, so I'm going to have to suck it up, but their parties go on so fucking long. Last one didn't quiet down til 3ish and the drunken teenagers decided at some point to chuck their shot glasses onto our patio. Not fun for a family with a cat and a toddler!
AIBU to hope their marquee falls down?

The moment they chick a glass over get out the with a hose!

Imnotsurprisedreally · 25/08/2018 20:41

Last time I was going to sweep up all the shards of glass and tip them over the fence onto their patio but DH said that was childish. Damn him and his conciliatory ways Angry

I'd have done that too OP! It's one (annoying) thing to have a loud party in their own garden but chucking stuff into yours is just rude!

mrswhiplington · 25/08/2018 21:10

We had similar neighbours once. They threw all their cigaratte ends into our garden. So I threw them all back over the next day. I feel your pain.

FluorescentAdolescent · 25/08/2018 21:15

I would have thrown glass / cigarette butts back over. Don't grow up - it's a trap.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 25/08/2018 21:18

Oh no, I wouldn't behave like an adult if folk were chucking glass over my fence; that's a line worth drawing.

Our neighbour often does this and sings bloody Fields of Athenry on her karaoke at 5am. I punish her in return by allowing the DC on the trampoline at 7am and encouraging them to play Jedi Warrior on there with their light sabres to ensure they shout even more loudly.

TubeTop · 25/08/2018 21:23

I got to the point with my former neighbours that I would go and stay at a friend's the night of their parties. Horrible, you have my sympathy.

BewareOfDragons · 25/08/2018 21:38

Dump every single item they chuck over the fence back into their garden.

keyboardkate · 25/08/2018 21:44

Ah just live and let live if it doesn't happen every weekend.

Were you invited?

Some day you might want a party in your garden too.

magicalmimi · 25/08/2018 21:48

Our neighbours-our gardens back on to each other regularly have parties. When we see the massive marquees going up, we know we have a few noisy nights ahead of us. Tonight they have a bloody live band playing, who we can hear every word of every song even with our windows closed .makes me sound like a real killjoy but my children, whilst not babies find it hard to go to sleep..grrr

Whatsthisbear · 25/08/2018 21:50

Do you have ear plugs? A fan you can plug in for white noise so you can sleep? or an app that plays rain/waves or whatever that might help you sleep through the worst. Hope toddler manages to sleep through it

tillytrotter1 · 25/08/2018 22:25

Cut the grass at 6am? Hoover all the rooms on the party wall very early morning? Don't throw their debris back over the fence, put it on their doorstep, I did that with dog mess once, they weren't happy at all so a good outcome.

Creeper8 · 25/08/2018 22:28

Im so glad none of my neighbours ever have parties!

AmericanEskimoDoge · 25/08/2018 22:32

Throwing glass onto your patio, where it will break? That's extremely rude and dangerous behavior. I'd have to talk to them about that, at the very least...

As for the "live and let live" argument, you can have a party without putting your neighbors at risk. (Actually, you can have a party without keeping the neighborhood up half the night, too, but apparently that's too much to ask of some people.)

NataliaOsipova · 25/08/2018 22:34

Tomorrow is the morning that you discover a new found passion for Wagner. At 7am. With the windows open (so hot in August, don't you think?). Fighting fire with fire is the only way to make the point......

NotTakenUsername · 25/08/2018 22:38

I read the op and imagined plastic shot glasses - thought, “a bit rude but both the end of the world...”

We’re talking glass, thrown over? How often? Like one errant glass by a twat, or a shower of mini glasses throughout the night?

I’d be really annoyed about the broken glass. Everything else I’d let slide as an irregular occurrence.

anniehm · 25/08/2018 22:43

We have neighbours who seem to be the go to family member to host weddings (they are Indian and our gardens are about 1/4 acre). They always invite us (we politely decline) and turn off the music by 11/11.30. If it's just once or twice a year the music is something you need to tolerate but if there's glass/litter over the fence you need to speak to them as it's not acceptable

Tiredtomybones · 25/08/2018 22:50

Yanbu Flowers

Ontheboardwalk · 25/08/2018 22:52

When was the last time they had a party? Last week/last year???

If it was last year or months ago then YABU do you never have friends and family round for a gathering?

I have a couple of friends round twice a year for my birthday and Eurovision but its mild to moderate noise and they’ve all gone by midnight latest. When was the last time you made any noise that disturbed your neighbour?

I really don’t understand the comments about making noise to get your neighbours back. I’d we all did that when neighbours pissed us off or we pissed them off it would be chaos.

Broken glass is wrong. I’d have spoken to them about that

SarfE4sticated · 25/08/2018 22:52

A local house is having its regular loud garden party - massive sound system and very loud ragga music blasting out. I am completely furious and we are all sleeping in the front room. Police can't do anything, and I have a number for environmental health to call tomorrow. So really nothing I can do.
TBH if it was just a party I wouldn't mind so much, but the microphone and speakers are just taking the piss.

Childrenofthesun · 25/08/2018 22:55

Yanbu. Nothing wrong with the occasional party, but after 10pm everything should be indoors and the music quieter.

Ontheboardwalk · 25/08/2018 22:56

Sarf microphone and speakers are not on!

SarfE4sticated · 25/08/2018 22:59

Would you mind popping round and telling them that Ontheboardwalk. I would go but fear I would assault someone!
In the words of Kath&Kim I am gropeable!

Imnotsurprisedreally · 25/08/2018 23:12

Sounds like I'm not alone in my disgruntlement!
The last party next door was probably a couple of months ago so if there are no more projectiles then I'll put up and shut up.
I'm not a complete party pooper but on the few occasions we've had big 'do's', we've hired somewhere like a room in a nice pub, so we can relax and enjoy ourselves.
Parties at home are either afternoon things with kids invited where we use the garden or evenings where we head indoors after about 10.30pm. Is this not what most people do?

OP posts:
Ontheboardwalk · 25/08/2018 23:13

Let me at them Sarf and I will. That level of noise and entitlement does wind me up.

I don’t know about these things? Is there no one you can call tonight?

Sound system!! WTF
