Oh dear... neighbours party has begun

We live in a semi detached house and it looks like most of the evenings partying will be going on in their fairly small garden which is currently filled with a marquee complete with speakers Hmm
They don't do this all that often, so I'm going to have to suck it up, but their parties go on so fucking long. Last one didn't quiet down til 3ish and the drunken teenagers decided at some point to chuck their shot glasses onto our patio. Not fun for a family with a cat and a toddler!
AIBU to hope their marquee falls down?

Well, luckily the party next to us seemed to quieten down after 1am. Either that or I was so tired I slept through it or they all went out somewhere.

I asked (very politely under the circumstances) at 2.15ish if they could please turn the music down. Hostess was extremely drunk by this point and just waved me away like she was shooing a fly out of the garden. Rest of guests just sort of shrugged at one another or looked at me blankly so i gave up.
They eventually packed up at 4ish.
Utter bastards Angry

When that happened to me Imnotsurprisedreally (it was our next door neighbour student hous, and it was 4 am) my voice went so deep and wobbly with fury that I sounded like something out of the exorcist. Did the trick.
I would be fuming about your neighbour, but then what really can you/we do. I could go round to this party house of last night, but then it could lead to a row, and then I would feel awful every time I left the house. Sometimes it's just easier to say nothing - the British way - which is what I will do. Smile

Our neighbour often does this and sings bloody Fields of Athenry on her karaoke at 5am.

That must be especially hellish, it's a bloody awful dirge even when sung by someone competent.

smartiecake · 26/08/2018 10:55

I hope you have been playing loud music and hoovering very early on to make as much noise as you can. Some people are just so inconsiderate of others. I would plan revenge.

AntiHop · 26/08/2018 11:02

I feel for you op. my view is it's never acceptable to have a party with speakers in the garden until 4am. If you want that kind of party, hire a hall. Occasional parties are part of life, but having that volume when they only had one a couple of months ago is unacceptable.

LakieLady · 26/08/2018 11:02

My neighbour is outside with noisy hedge cutters atm. We can barely hear the motorbike racing on tv. Wink

Shall I send him up to do yours, OP?

We dread summer. The mansions over the back of us specialise in the 'once in a life time parties' (every year) with giant marquees, live bands, unsupervised teens and bouncers. Bouncers! The bouncers make it very difficult to complain, as they won't let you in to meet any of the attendees.

We'd be very happy with a 10pm indoors rule, but it's usually outside music until 3am, which penetrates double glazing, earplugs and fan white noise.

Vacuums and lawnmowers wouldn't make a dent.

Sometimes we get forewarning. We always go away.

Jaxhog · 26/08/2018 11:25

One lot had fireworks last night at midnight. We pray for rain!

I am very intolerant of party noise but to be fair I also like a good party myself so I just grin and bear it and I have emergency ear plugs. If we move the kids to our bedroom at the other side of the house it's usually bearable. Our neighbours do it a couple of times a year, we maybe do it once. I'd prefer to know in advance so we could go away for the weekend or to the in laws for the night but I feel rude asking them to tell us in advance, don't know why.
I have to say though that glass thrown on my patio would piss me off immensely. I'd be knocking on the door at 9am telling them to come round and get it all swept up.

That made me laugh Sarf as it is exactly what I'll do but I will also try to add extra frostiness into my 'good mornings' from now on Grin
