Daft things your pets do

Was just innocently wallowing in a nice warm bath, reading my book and generally relaxing.

Out of nowhere a blur of fluff came flying through the air and landed with a splash right on top of me.

Yup the god randomly decided he wanted to jump in the bath with me -has never done this before!

Was laughing so much it was a struggle to lift him back out.

So as it’s Saturday and I’m home alone and bored - aibu to ask you to entertain me with stories of daft things your pets do.

One of mine climbs onto the conservatory roof to get to the upstairs bedroom windowsill waiting to be let in through the window, we back onto a park and all the kids always think he is stuck so I get people knocking on to tell me, doesn't help that I have 5 cats and 3 of them do it now Grin

HollyGibney · 25/08/2018 21:49

My parents Belgian Shepherd used to be allowed on the sofa. Every night he'd go and and jump up to nap. However if there was anything on the sofa even on the arm or back, no matter how small - nail file once or maybe a pair of socks, he'd just stand staring at it and doing a short, bossy woof till someone moved it. Only then would he jump on and stretch out.

MarmiteTermite · 25/08/2018 21:52

My cat:

  • Likes to wriggle Down the stairs and plop onto the next one - wriggle plop, wriggle plop etc
  • alternatively hop down the stairs lie a bunny rabbit
  • play boo - she is on DD’s bed and I hide behind the door. She says meaow then I put my head round the door and say boo and repeat!

Reading these has made me miss my dog, who died last year so much,

He used to insist we went to bed at 10.30 on the dot every night, staring at us, nudging, and going up stairs repeatedly until we gave in. Likewise getting up, 6am and not a minute later, including weekends.

The best one though was eating. He wouldn’t touch his food till we ate. It would be there, in his bowl, with us encouraging him to eat, but nope, wouldn’t touch it till we ate. If we ate out we’d have to have a pretend dinner before we went, otherwise he’d starve.

I had a rescue dog - She was amazing! But she hated every man in my life. She would jump between us and than slowly stretch out to push us apart. And she would bark at my poor than boyfriend and I had to remove her (ok him ) from my home - separate rooms was not good enough! Altogether she got rid of 2 boyfriends!!! There was only one man she accepted in our life, and I am still happily married to him. Grin

My cat used to dance, he'd sit on the top of his scratch post, I'd stand in front and dance, he'd then sit up on his back legs and wave his front legs around . He used to 'meercat' when the door went. Now he is 17 he doesn't do much, apart from attack me for fudge Hmm and miaow loudly if he can't find us. Oh and he licks, any bare bit of skin and he licks it, only me and one of my friends though.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/08/2018 22:11

One of my cats skates on the wooden floor in the hall

I used to think she was chasing things then slipping, and that's certainly how it started out. But obviously she liked the sensation so now she doesn't bother with the chasing - she just runs and then slides

Feefeetrixabelle · 25/08/2018 22:13

My dog falls asleep ‘protecting’ his squeaky ball which he will fall asleep on causing a mini meltdown when it squeaks as he becomes convinced something is attacking him. He’s not right that one.

Oldaintallthat · 25/08/2018 22:17

Not funny but I was dx with Crohns only 3 months after meeting now dh. When first discharged from hossy I was ridiculously weak and struggled a lot with the stairs.
With no prompting, he used to walk up behind me and walk in front of me back down.
Dogs are amazing.

DownAndUnder · 25/08/2018 22:17

If a big dog is being overly playful/barking my small dog will run to them, put her front paws on their shoulders and stare them in the face. She’s cautiously introduced to dogs and referred to as the fun police.

My old dog occasionally falls in love with a teddy and mother’s it, staying hidden with it for days. She was spayed 8 years ago after someone tried breeding her and she showed no interest in her puppies and refused to stay with them long enough to even feed...

My cat tried to jump on my DD's toy box and missed. Me and my DH couldn't breath. Also one time he was trying to catch a fly for 10 minutes I got fed up and hit it first time with a pillow, he looked rather put out.

My Bearded Dragon made us giggle one night as a moth had flown in the window and land on the glass to her vivarium, she could work out why she couldn't get it.

Duskqueen · 25/08/2018 23:31

That's supposed to couldn't not could.

My cat has done too many things, I can't remember them all, we always joke that our cat can't cat. He is big and stupid, he acts more like a dog than a cat.

I just love the pretend dinner story, our pets do turn us into fools. Smile

My little boy has a special fanfare bark for special visitors which then evolves into him dashing away to find and present his most treasured pose of the moment. This, you must understand is not to be given or taken, just shown. You may then play a game of tugging Best Toy but you must not win.

If I know who is coming to call I may possibly place the toy they bought him at the top of his toy basket. They need not know this.

I am a fool. Blush

deste · 25/08/2018 23:47

Every morning our dog picks one of his toys and licks it clean. If he wants a toy or his ball out of his toy box he barks till we get it for him. He won’t help himself even though they are sitting on top. If he is ready for his food he will sit looking at you and when I start to put it in his bowl he moves to the kitchen door and waits out side it. If Im having toast in the morning he comes and sits beside me and looks at me. When I get to the last bit he knows it’s for him so waits till he gets it and then off he goes.

Brigante9 · 25/08/2018 23:49

My old boy likes to sit in boxes homeless dog and the others are obsessed with the fish. The pond was cleaned out some years ago and they spotted the fish for the first time, absolutely obsessed! They’re often nose to nose with frogs

One of our cats, Mr. Bigglesworth (Biggie) is a bit thick. Picture the following scenario as told to me by Hubby.

It's a warm summer night. We have the screen door closed but the front main door open. Hubby hears meowing near the door. He comes to have a look.

A strange cat is sitting on the porch looking in and growling. Jennette (cat we used to have; long story but she now resides with my parents, very friendly kitty who gets on with other cats very well) is meowing through the door at the strange cat. Biggie is sitting on the front entrance stairs looking confused.

Biggie also tried to make friends with a dog once. The dog appeared to not know quite what to make of him.

Bubbaduck · 26/08/2018 02:13

My dog hates having his flea treatment done and will go in a huff with me afterwards. But instead of just lying in his bed and ignoring me, he'll sit in front of me and stare, and as soon as I look at him, he stands up, turns around and sits down with a grunt. He then looks over his shoulder to make sure I was watching his huff and if I wasn't then he'll do it again and again. He repeats this about every 10 minutes for a good couple of hours after every flea treatment.

KaosReigns · 26/08/2018 02:31

My dog tried to break me and DH up. He accidentally stepped on her tail once and she came running to me and got lots of hugs.

After that every time they were alone together she would let out a cry like she'd been kicked and come running to me for love. Cue arguments where I told him if he ever touched my dog again if kick him out and him vehemently denying it.

This went on for a week until one day I walked in to the kitchen a few steps behind dp and dog took one look at him yelped in pain and ran smack bang on to my legs because she hadn't seen me come in. She knew she was busted and hasn't accused DH of assault since.

She did however once fake a limp for a full hour until she accidentally swapped legs and got called on that one too.

My cat ( who I never bought or adopted he just decided he wanted to be here) has to be no less than one cm away from my face at all times. Wouldn’t mind so much if he didn’t drool constantly. Waking up to find drool in your ear..... classy.

Raffles1981 · 26/08/2018 08:57

Our dog is a retriever and he's a big horse. Monty (or monster) cries if we don't let him sit in the bathroom with our DS 11 months during bath time. Our cat is very confused by the baby gates and will come into the back porch and cry until you open the gate. Apparently jumping is not something he will do if pressured. Although we know he can! Monty also comes and gives me a "hug" in the morning. He comes and rests his head on my neck Smile
