Daft things your pets do

Was just innocently wallowing in a nice warm bath, reading my book and generally relaxing.

Out of nowhere a blur of fluff came flying through the air and landed with a splash right on top of me.

Yup the god randomly decided he wanted to jump in the bath with me -has never done this before!

Was laughing so much it was a struggle to lift him back out.

So as it’s Saturday and I’m home alone and bored - aibu to ask you to entertain me with stories of daft things your pets do.

I had a cat that would "take me" to bed

Our young dog does this. When she feels that it's time for everyone to be in bed, she starts trying to 'herd' us towards the stairs. If we don't show any signs of movement she will do laps between us and the living room door until we give in.

Ovaltine1 · 25/08/2018 20:31

We have a fenced off front garden with 2 gates : small one in front of the door and one in front of the driveway to the right. My stupid dogs just sit and wait in front of the closed gate to be let out, while the other one is wide open. The cat saunters around in front of them, using the open gate and they look amazed. Idiots.

jarviscockatiel · 25/08/2018 20:35

One of our previous cockatiels would eat the herbs on the kitchen windowsill if we refused to share our dinner with him. Every time DH turned round to tell him to stop he would instantly stare out of the window looking innocent and then screech as if to say "Whaaatttt????"

VelociraptorRex · 25/08/2018 20:36

My pet lizard can tell the time - I started feeding him at 6pm every day when I adopted him (I even have a reminder daily on my phone, 5 years down the line!). 6pm every evening he's up the the front of his vivarium, little feet on the window, waiting for his dinner! And he sulks if we go away for a few days and get someone else to feed him Smile

Titsywoo · 25/08/2018 20:37

My bulldog climbs the sofa and walks along the back of it like a cat then tries to sit on our shoulders (a bit like bakebakebakes cat above but she is pretty heavy!).

She also climbs onto chairs (dining room, garden patio etc) and just sits there looking glum.

Minxmumma · 25/08/2018 20:39

One of my cats is just stupid....
We have a stairgate at the top of the stairs..... rather than jump the measly 3ft if the gate to sneak off to bed in eldest childs room, he goes downstairs, out the cat flap up the fence onto the conservatory, from there in the bathroom window to appear the otherside of the offending gate!

2 minutes later decides to brawl with his brothers so jumps over the gate to go back downstairs!
Always does the same, total idiot

GoodHeavensNoImAChicken · 25/08/2018 20:45

Our cat was mad, utterly mad as a kitten. We opened his carrier when we first brought him home, he ran up the stairs and leapt through the gap between the bannisters, falling from top to bottom Shock

Our other cat licks the fireplace. No idea why, it’s a bit awkward when we have guests over as she makes a loud slurpy noise Blush

beeefcake · 25/08/2018 20:48

I was enjoying a bath earlier this evening and then all of a sudden my dogs started barking and ran downstairs so I thought someone was at the front door

A lot of these remind me of this m.youtube.com/watch?v=udbMNZDQS48

Our lovely cat recently cut her paw pad Sad. It wasn't too bad but it had to be glued to help it heal properly. She needed to keep it clean and dry so the glue would stay put. No problem we can do that by keeping her inside.
First night of the glue being in place she decides to fall into a bath full of water!

GreyGardens88 · 25/08/2018 21:04

Dog is scared of and barks at the chimney

anothernameagain000 · 25/08/2018 21:08

@grey love that! Mine suddenly took against a candle (unlit) and barked at it

Our big(ger) dog ikes tovsot at the table when we’re eating.

She sits there like a hooman.

Soubriquet · 25/08/2018 21:15

One of my dogs has been fed in the same place for 18 months. Since the day we got her. Never had a problem with it

We got a puppy about a month ago now and we feed the puppy the other end of the room to make sure she gets to eat.

Now dog1 seems to think we aren't feeding her unless her food bowl is at this end of the room too.

This has now gone across to her water bowl too.

Puppy is too small to drink from her water bowl so has some ramekin dishes to drink from.

Dog1 will pinch that instead of going down to her water Hmm

fontofnoknowledge · 25/08/2018 21:16

Well, strange you should ask but I just caught the chickens having a quick trampoline session...

LunaLovegoodsRadishes · 25/08/2018 21:19

Our cat has synchronised visits to the litter tray with any member of the family. I pee, she pees.

LunaLovegoodsRadishes · 25/08/2018 21:21

Oh, and she joins us for dinner, sitting on the dining room chair.

QueenOfMyWorld · 25/08/2018 21:23

My dog is sooo precious that he wines if his bone is slightly out of reach, happy as Larry once I give in and give it to him the lazy git

SleightOfMind · 25/08/2018 21:30

another, your autocorrect knows the score - no one could jump into the bath with me unannounced unless they were immortal.

We’re away from the Sleighthounds at the moment but the DCs have adopted a slew of beach dogs. There’s a hardcore of six that follow them everywhere on the beach.

The leader of the pack has been dubbed ‘Milkie’.
She’s black and white with floppy ears. She looks like a tiny cow and has huge dugs.
She’s very sweet and I would take her home with us in a heartbeat if we could.

motortroll · 25/08/2018 21:32

My cat can't cat properly and is forever falling off fences and back of the chair or jumping up somewhere and not making it!!

If we're in she will sit by the door for half an hour to come in rather than use the cat flap.

Our lounge door swings shut but not all the way. She will open it with her paw to go out but not to come in and again will sit there until we notice....she never meows about these thing!!

In the summer if the doors and windows are open in the evening she will do constant laps down the side of the house and through it walking across the sofa where we're sitting each time.

She loves my laptop and immediately sits on it when I open it. She also loves a good pile of exam papers to sit on!!

checkingforballoons · 25/08/2018 21:34

I feel I should add that bunny is currently climbing all over DH, attempting to steal a wine gum and most put out that he isn’t getting one.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 25/08/2018 21:41

We have a spaniel who is a little special at times and likes to eat socks and pants. She poops them out, but only indoors, and if anyone's home she'll stand in front of them, crowning as you frantically herd her towards the door shouting "fuckness sake, another sock's on it's way out". It's like she never learns.

Our ginger cat is also a bit of a twat and each night around 11pm runs up the curtains in our bedroom, hangs from the top the full length just by her front claws then leaps like Tarzan across the room, runs downstairs and shouts at the front door to be released into the wilds.

One of our rabbits also likes to terrorise the dog, and chases her, corners her in the garden and does these Cato-like flying leaps at the dogs face while the other rabbit stands guard. If anyone comes out to defend the dog the boy rabbit rolls on his back and shows you his belly like a tiny dog to try and distract you.

Kaykay06 · 25/08/2018 21:43

Giant golden retriever decided he’d quite like to sit on my knee after a long day at work, lovely to be missed but he’s massive and it hurt he’s now lying st my feet

HollyGibney · 25/08/2018 21:43

It's not daft but I love it; my Scottie talks to me, properly talks. If I make grumbling noises he does them back and we have full conversations like that. I kiss him on the top of his head a lot and sometimes without prompting he kisses me too, by which I mean he jumps on the sofa and comes up to my face and bangs his nose on my face and then lies down, it's like he's learned that's a sign of affection so does it to me. I never had a dog that responded to me verbally the way he does. I just love it 😍

anothernameagain000 · 25/08/2018 21:44

@idontbelieve your home sounds fun Smile
