Titled with Across in mind Wink

May all the Oaf's problems be big ones, and the events of this week at least be the beginning of the beginning of the end.

Saturday will be a moment of “national humiliation”, “It’s part of a big pattern. In so many ways, Donald Trump has marooned himself on a faraway island. His boat is now wrecked on the shore and he’s sitting sulking.”

Roussette · 01/09/2018 16:31

And now Barack Obama. Who we all know is a great orator. Now is not the time or place but a lot of the nation will be mourning what we miss in a President after listening to Obama.

Chris Wylie's whistleblowing interviews are revisited by Rachel Maddow towards the end of this piece:
www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow/watch/mueller-gets-another-guilty-plea-flip-following-foreign-money-1311010371707?v=railb (Sep 01 2018).

In which Wylie says Sam Patten's work at Cambridge Analytica included testing pro-Russia and pro-Putin messages on the American public circa 2014, and that Putin was the only foreign leader about whom such messages were tested (at least in Wylie's time at CA).

It's worth watching all of that clip, which follows kaytola's clip above: www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow/watch/new-light-shines-on-blatantly-shady-trump-inauguration-finances-1311010883566?v=railb (Sep 01 2018)

They're both about her belief the Trump Inauguration Fund was actually a giant slush fund, but we don't yet know what for. Patten's admission it took illegal contributions from a pro-Putin Ukrainian party/person make that all the more interesting.

Obama Star

TheNorthWestPawsage · 01/09/2018 16:47

Is it me or is there a distinct orange-coloured subtext to the McCain eulogies?

lionheart · 01/09/2018 16:48

Ouch, Obama.

Roussette · 01/09/2018 16:50

Yes, I agree NorthWest. But maybe we are reading things into things that aren't they. I just think the eulogies pinpoint everything that Trump isn't.

cozietoesie · 01/09/2018 17:01

There was always going to be a sub-text. That just happens to be it in many people's minds......

ohmymimi · 01/09/2018 17:03

Interesting that, in so much being said in the eulogies to McCain (I didn't listen to Kissinger), there is an implicit rebuke of the current POTUS, in particular, and the repuglies in Congress.

And how appalling to be tweeting bile about Canada and NAFTA during the memorial service.

Has he no filter at all? (No need to answer, I know he hasn't)

AcrossthePond55 · 01/09/2018 17:05

Every single speaker has at some point had DH and I look at each other knowingly and nod. Every single speech has made silent reference to the behaviour of the Orange Oaf. Problem is that he's too fucking thick to get it.

Scrotus is this Country's best argument for Roe v Wade.

Roussette · 01/09/2018 17:09

There's a lovely clip on Twitter of GeorgeW passing Laura Bush a sweet (or candy?) and Michelle Obama looks and he sneaks her one too!

cozietoesie · 01/09/2018 17:11

Apparently, Michelle O and George W get on like a house on fire. Smile

George W. Bush: "Above all, John detested the abuse of power. He could not abide bigots and swaggering despots." (via ABC)

And during that Mitch McConnell is sat looking very po faced.

Roussette · 01/09/2018 17:22

I can't believe Ivanka and Jared are there and Meghan McCain threw them a comment about MAGA.

" The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again because America was always great.”

cozietoesie · 01/09/2018 17:29

That would be STB 'Senator McCain'. Smile

CaveMum · 01/09/2018 18:19

Roussette here’s a link to that gif. I like to think Bill Clinton is stiffling a giggle a la Barack too, just we can’t see it with the plant obstructing his face!

PerkingFaintly · 01/09/2018 19:03

Ah darn, I was obviously sitting down to watch Maddow when I should have been watching McCain.

Will catch up on Ch4 News now...

ohmymimi · 01/09/2018 19:04

That is very interesting about Wylie/Patten, Perking, I didn't have the chance to catch up on yesterday's shows this morning, so that will be my first listen later (if I can stay awakeSmile)

Interesting MSNBC piece. (It's a long one - sorry.)

cozietoesie · 01/09/2018 19:11

Sorry. Try 2.

ohmymimi · 01/09/2018 19:12

I noticed Bill chewing a bit later, so Laura must have had plenty of sweetiesSmile
Ivanka seemed to be looking down a lot, and Jared was sitting as if he had a stick up his bum. I hope the whole thing was an uncomfortable few hours for both of them.

Ivanka texting at McCain’s funeral.
Why am I not shocked. twitter.com/superlorna69/status/1035916686090797056/video/1

I was shocked to see Ivanka at the service tbh. She had a nerve.

Roussette · 01/09/2018 19:20

CaveMum love that clip! There's such a warmth for all those sat there.

And then there's Ivanka texting...
