Titled with Across in mind Wink

May all the Oaf's problems be big ones, and the events of this week at least be the beginning of the beginning of the end.

.... Stepping back, it is telling that those defending the president are resorting to the narrowest of defenses—that even if the president obstructed justice, holding him accountable would be unconstitutional. In what is perhaps a reflection of the strength of the evidence that can now be marshaled against the president, his defenders have shifted the fight in large measure away from the merits of the obstruction case to a series of questionable defenses based upon the possible consequences of even a meritorious case. In many ways, the question has become less about whether there is a case that Donald J. Trump obstructed justice, and more about whether and in what form the rule of law will be followed.....

Special counsel’s office has asked for more time to decide on whether it plans to drop or retry 10 charges that Manafort faces after a jury could not reach a decision. If granted by a judge, they could have another month—potentially after Manafort’s next trial. @kpolantz

Excellent article, lion, it gives hope.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the legal forest, more trouble for Trump in NY: www.vanityfair.com/news/2018/08/how-andrew-cuomo-and-the-empire-state-could-terrorize-trump

Jnr or Eric? They wouldn't flip, would they?

Interesting. Sometimes immunity isn’t granted because prosecutors decide the witness’s testimony isn’t indispensable. Sometimes immunity isn’t granted because the person’s bad acts are of a magnitude that they should be prosecuted not immunized. twitter.com/natashabertrand/status/1034823120358723585

Don Jr & Eric seem to be thick as mince (Don Jr in the Trump Tower email saga, for example).

So I reckon they would flip if it was put to them the right way – not using the word "flip"...

cozietoesie · 29/08/2018 22:37

Sorry, Perking. I think that they both know which side of their bread is buttered.

PerkingFaintly · 29/08/2018 22:55

Oh indeed.

I just think they're so dim that, suitably framed, they might not realise what they were doing. Wouldn't be the first time...

PerkingFaintly · 29/08/2018 22:59

I mean, Don "getting out ahead of the story by releasing complete versions of deeply incriminating emails" Jr?

Son of Don "it wasn't from campaign money so there was nothing illegal about paying the hush money" Sr?

They're not famous for their grasp of the situation.Grin

cozietoesie · 29/08/2018 23:03

I agree that they're both atam. I just don't think that MrM's team will consider the task 'worth it'. Smile

Horrible Russian stuff.

'It seems almost too strange to be true: fight clubs, neo-Nazi soccer hooligans, and motorcycle gangs serving as conduits for the Kremlin’s influence operations in Western countries. It sounds more like an episode of The Americans with a dash of Mad Max and Fight Club mixed in. Yet this is exactly what is happening across Europe and North America as Russia’s intelligence services co-opt fringe radicals and angry young men to try to undermine Western democracies from within. And not just in the virtual world, but in real life.'

'The episode has managed to combine most of the worst aspects of Donald Trump’s presidency: pettiness as a major motivating force for administration policy, a preference for sowing division over unity, disdain for tradition and norms, chaotic decision making, and an ultimate tendency to surrender.'

More from North Korea. This commentary is regarding the same issue I posted about yesterday: an alleged training joint US/Japan training incident that has NK’s knickers in a knot.

Minju Joson Snipes at Good-for-Nothing Moves of U.S. Military

Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) -- Recently, special operation forces of the U.S. based in Japan staged a long-range infiltration drill, according to a report by a south Korean broadcasting service. The troops were reportedly landed on an island of the Philippines by a transport plane.

The broadcasting service added that if their operational direction is changed, the drill can be termed the one for "infiltrating into Pyongyang".

Earlier, it was detected that various special operation units of the U.S. covertly moved to Jinhae Naval Base of south Korea around late July or early August aboard a nuclear-powered submarine.

Minju Joson Tuesday in a commentary terms this an extremely provocative and risky military move to chill the hard-won atmosphere of peace and dialogue on the Korean peninsula and the efforts for implementing the Singapore DPRK-U.S. joint statement.

The secret drills staged by the U.S. special operation units are just good-for-nothing military moves that will never help the development of the DPRK-U.S. relations, the commentary says, and goes on:

The U.S. is utterly mistaken if it thinks that it can stun someone by its hackneyed way of "gunboat diplomacy" it employed like an almighty weapon in the past century.

If the U.S. deteriorates the relations with the DPRK and brings the danger of war to the Korean peninsula again, those who hatched the military plots must be held wholly accountable for it. -0-
