My 1 year old has just spent most the week with stonking high temps due to tonsilitis. Finally turned a corner yesterday. Then today he has had a temp that at its absolute highest has been 36.2 and mostly 35.3-35.8. I cant work out if ai need to be worried or not as he is happy and playing albeit fairly tired!

That temperature is entirely normal and if his playing and eating and drinking then he is fine.
No need to worry.

NotquitewhatImeant · 24/08/2018 19:41

If they seem happy and are eating and drinking as PP said I’d be relaxed but keep an eye on them as a low temp (along with other signs of being unwell) can be an indication of a worsening infection.

Stroller15 · 24/08/2018 19:43

As PP said, entirely normal temperatures those.

Queenofthestress · 24/08/2018 19:48

Usual body temp is 35/36 degrees, that's a completely normal temperature, a fever is 37/38/39 degrees

ManorGreyhound · 24/08/2018 19:50

Normal body temperature is 37 degrees though, why are you worried?

sidesplittinglol · 24/08/2018 19:53

A normal body temp for that age is 37. Anything above 37.5/38 is classified as a temp.

Why are you worried? He's fine within himself and hasn't got a fever.

Bbbbbbbb2017 · 24/08/2018 20:46

There has only ever been one occasion when he has had a temp below 37 and that was when he had sepsis so im very aware of what a low temp can mean. I just dont want to panic because he has had it before

OP posts:
Whaaaatthe · 24/08/2018 20:50

35-36 is a normal temperature

ManorGreyhound · 24/08/2018 20:51

Ok, that's quite a drip feed

If you're concerned that he has sepsis, then you should see a doctor not ask randoms on the internet.

Silversun83 · 24/08/2018 20:53

PP, I think the OP is worried because her toddler's temp is too low, rather than too high. A low temp can be dangerous as well as a high temp.

Whaaaatthe · 24/08/2018 20:53

Ahh yes drip feed re sepsis.
Get him looked at by a doctor just to be safe with his history.

Crunchymum · 24/08/2018 20:53

So you're worried about his low temperature?

Silversun83 · 24/08/2018 20:55

Sorry, cross-posted. Maybe call 111 for advice? Generally, I use how my DC are in themselves as the main indicator for worry eg if they have a temperature, etc, but have never dealt with a too-low temp or sepsis before Flowers

ZoeWashburne · 24/08/2018 20:55

If your child has a body temperature under 36 and has had sepsis in the past get of the internet and take them to A and E now.

Children's healthy body temperature is 36.6-37.2

Bbbbbbbb2017 · 24/08/2018 21:00

Im trying not to let his past cloud my judgement hence not mentioning. Sepsis once doesnt make them more likely to get it again does it?

OP posts:
kaytee87 · 24/08/2018 21:02

How are you taking his temperature? Under his arm can show a reading 0.5-1 degree lower than actual temperature

Bbbbbbbb2017 · 24/08/2018 21:08

One of those braun in ears. I did check on mine and older childs ears too and ours were spot on normal for us so did his again and it was still low.

I know im being stupid i just need to be told that!

Tiredtomybones · 24/08/2018 21:09

Yanbu. Ring 111, even if only to put your mind at rest. You're worried, or you wouldn't have asked here. Quick call will help no end. Flowers

kaytee87 · 24/08/2018 21:10

What time of day did you take temp? Had he just woken up?

HoleyCoMoley · 24/08/2018 21:11

Hope he is ok, do get expert medical advice, Flowers

wheezing · 24/08/2018 21:11

Starting to feel guilty that I’ve never taken my toddler’s temperature...?

Apart from the temperature does he have any of the signs for sepsis?

LouHotel · 24/08/2018 21:12

OK I dont know if having sepsis once makes your more likely to have it again but I bet my house that trained medical staff do.

So call 101 and ask one of them...

LouHotel · 24/08/2018 21:13

111

Timeforabiscuit · 24/08/2018 21:14

Call 111 as you're worried, any sick child is horrible as a parent, but i imagine that having had experience of sepsis this is like a cold breath on your neck.

gamerwidow · 24/08/2018 22:35

With your history I would get him checked out to be certain or at the very least phone 111. It’s very likely nothing but it’s best to be safe.
