We're moving house next week and the EA board outside our house now says Sold. Normally the space on the road outside ours is empty and there's plenty of parking around 30 metres further up. However there's been a car parked outside ours for the last three days (without moving) - it arrived during the daytime so they would have seen the Sold board. If I'd been them I'd have anticipated the house might need access for a removals lorry and would have parked further up. It's only because we have a 2 week exchange date that we're not moving today with nowhere close for the lorry to park!

Obviously anyone can park anywhere they like as long as it's legal but would you leave your car outside someone's house with a Sold board if you knew it was going to be a few days and there were plenty of spaces up the road? Or am I over considerate/overthinking? as usual

Annie my Dh procrastinatea ans is untidy but other than that he's genuinely a real gem, sheer luck rather than judgement that I'm with him tbh!

The traffic jam scenario is because I worry about needing the loo. If I was stuck on a train for ages it wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I haven;t discussed anxiety with my counsellor beyond him advising me to try and live in the present. I'll raise the issue with him next time I see him.

I'm coming to the realisation that I'm not so much quirky but a bit of a cunt Grin

Crossed posted with you & Bluntness (iPad is being a total twat and keeps stopping, then jumbling up my posts, so it’s all taking an age. Only on MN though, so probably shouldn’t be blaming the ipad, but MN).

I think when you have an abusive parent you (sadly) learn really, really, young to look out for things & to be hyper aware of anything that might cause an issue. I believe you, when you say, you would have noticed the ‘SOLD’ sign (before it was something pertinent to you) and not parked there. My relative would (and she’d worry when I parked there) because she’s hyper aware of everything to avoid causing a problem. I think it comes from self preservation, fear, insecurity and a need to be found to be ‘a good person’ after being told you’re ‘not good enough’. As much as it drives me up the fucking wall, it also breaks my heart.

I don’t think it’s ‘self centred’ asking people to work around your anxiety (it’s not like an entitled snow flake), as long as you are working on it.

It’s several different issues though, but all over lapping. Humans are complicated creatures.

Bluntness100 · 24/08/2018 17:19

Ooh don't say that about yourself 😱

The thing about mental Illness is by default it makes the
Sufferer selfish, self absorbed, it always becomes about them, their needs, their wants. And seldom is the other person considered. In the examples given, your husband or the folks who parked perfectly legitimately .

If i was worried about needing rhe loo I woul take a motorway over an a road anyway, there are multiple services and you can pull off at any junction. If you get stuck on an a road, you would be royally fucked.

So it's not you're mean or anything, it's simoly suffering from different mental health issues makes you focus on your needs. Understandably, as that's the way it works. You don't think of the other person.

OP, sorry you're having a tough time. Our council allows us to block a spot for a moving van. Not very user-friendly.

In the absence of this, I think if you have a moving truck, you just need to park it in front of the house and put the blinkers on. What else can you do, really.

Some of the best people are procrastinators

...if that, and being untidy, are his worst traits, he’s a keeper and with ‘luck’ like that you should buy lottery tickets!

I’m glad you found a good one this time 🌷💕

I'm coming to the realisation that I'm not so much quirky but a bit of a cunt

🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

No, that was your dad and your abusive Ex. Bastards have a LOT to answer for.

...the loo. Well, yep, that would be the worst part of it. People take the piss out of me (or just look amazed) but my car boot has all kinds of crap in it. Tarp, first aid kit, blankets, old towels, water, snacks and ‘seasonal’ (in winter - snow shovel, salt, snow boots, gloves, hats, sleeping bag etc) plus ‘loo bag’ - puppy pad (for the seat) & old ice cream container, loo roll, wet wipes & anti bac). Oh and a book and puzzle book...boredom is MY worst fear about traffic jams! 🤣

I’m might be an ‘over thinker’, most people just have a spare tyre! But there’s no anxiety because I’m prepared.

...I have fuck all space in the boot though 😂

Oh and coming back to your original question. As I said, I’d park outside a house with a SOLD sticker, but I wouldn’t park on the road, outside someone’s house I didn’t know, for DAYS ON END, whether they had a SOLD sign or not. I think THAT is hugely inconsiderate (in the suburbs, not in London (or elsewhere) where it’s a free for all and you’re lucky to get a parking spot two streets away from your house (but given what you said about other parking that doesn’t seem like your situation].

I’d definitely leave a note, a couple of days before, asking if they wouldn’t mind parking elsewhere on your moving day...hopefully they’re not on holiday for 3 weeks (like the inconsiderate twats who parked badly using two spaces & left their car in our shared parking area...they don’t even live here, but their Son & DIL do, they didn’t even leave the keys so it could be moved/straightened. Twats).

Riddley - our council charges £55 per bay so if you had to have 16 bays suspended it would be a fortune!! It would be £880 Shock

RiddleyW · 24/08/2018 18:32

It was slightly more Sad

didyouseetheflaresinthesky · 24/08/2018 18:34

I wouldn't even notice tbh. But then I walk past Aldi every day for work and didn't notice it for 3 months after it opened.
