I suspect I'm a bit dehydrated as I don't drink much more than 3 mugs of water per day. Downloaded an app to track my water intake and it recommends 2.25 litres per day. I struggle to drink 1 litre. I tried yesterday and had to stop 5 times whilst out and about to use the loo. So how does anyone drink 2.25 litres?! I'm sure I get a lot of liquid from fruit and veg, so maybe I don't think I need to drink anywhere near 2.25 litres. I'd be permanently on the loo!

I drink around 6 - 8 pints of water a day. My worst nightmare would be to have no water to drink if I was incapacitated. Food I could stand to be without but not water. I drink a tonne of alcohol and think I've only lived so long as I drink so much water!

FoodGloriousFud · 23/08/2018 10:05

I drink about 2 litres. I drink little and often so don't need to use the toilet as much as if I down a glass.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 23/08/2018 10:07

1.5 to 2 litres. I have a 500ml bottle I fill during the day. You do eventually stop the peeing and in fact my bladder seems in better nick now that I drink lots more water than I did when I hardly drank any.

missyB1 · 23/08/2018 10:11

a minimum of 2 litres. I get really dehydrated and feel ill if i don't drink enough. When I'm at work i have to make sure I give myself the opportunity to drink, otherwise I know I will end up feeling shit.

BloodyDisgrace · 23/08/2018 10:12

2 litres sound a lot!! There was an article also saying it doesn't have to come in pure water, part of it comes from tea, soup and other liquid slops ...

I used to drink 2 pints when I was working, out of boredom, and because the glass was in front of my eyes. Also going for a piss regularly was a nice distraction.

Now I don't drink enough, just staying at home. Probably mainly in alcohol consumption. 1 pint of water a day probably.

JustlikeDevon · 23/08/2018 10:15

I aim for 3 litres.
The peeing slows down when you get used to an increased amount of water.

fuckthisforfun · 23/08/2018 10:17

I feel best when I drink about 2.5-3L you do eventually get used to drinking so much more and the need to use the toilet every 20mins goes die down.

Peoplemaynoticeus · 23/08/2018 10:17

3-4 litres but water is literally all I drink.

Sirzy · 23/08/2018 10:21

About 2 litres of water and then other fluids (tea/coffee/wine)

The constant weeing soon slows when your body gets used to it

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 23/08/2018 10:25

About two litres maybe more some days and when including other drinks. I probably do wee a lot tbh but I couldn’t stand not drinking it now I’m used to it

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 23/08/2018 10:30

I probably drink between 3-4 litres during the day although some of that would be green tea as I don't drink coffee or tea at work.

I find I feel awful and horribly dehydrated if I drink less.

BrazenFox · 23/08/2018 11:37

Wow! 3-4 litres sounds a crazy amount to me. Some days I only drink a cup or two of tea and no plain water. I actually hate drinking plain water. It makes me gag...which is probably why I never have an urge to drink it. Making the effort now though. I don't think I'm seriously dehydrated or anything....as I don't have dark yellow pee or any other symptoms...but this app has made me think I need to drink a lot more. I don't drink alcohol and don't do much exercise so probably don't need as much as 2.25 litres though!

3-4 here too. Agree you need to train yourself up.

Do you commute? One thing that made a massive difference to me was filling up a litre bottle in the fridge the night before, then drinking it in the car on the way to work. I’m always thirsty first thing, and by the time I get to the office I’m 1 litre down without even trying. I swear by it.

Aus84 · 23/08/2018 11:58

Yes easily drink minimum 2 litres a day. I started keeping a track about 10 years ago when I was relying on caffeine to relieve headaches and realised it was dehydration. At first I needed to pee all the time - but now my body is used to it. OP, you'll notice huge difference in yourself if you start aiming for 2 litres.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 23/08/2018 11:58

Absolutely need to get to get yourself used to drinking a larger amount. But it's easier if you can make it a habit rather than a chore. I find really cold water a bit hard to drink as I've sensitive teeth but room temperature water is much easier for me so I drink loads.

Rebecca36 · 23/08/2018 12:05

If you keep water with you all the time and drink a little every now and then, you'll find you've drank quite a lot by the end of the day.

I drink a lot of water, always have a glass or bottle handy but I really like it. I also like Lemon & Barley water which is good for rehydrating.

Coffeist · 23/08/2018 12:38

3-4l here as well (+ more if at gym). I don't do any other drinks, except some cups of coffee. I drink 1 pint of water first thing in the morning (before breakfast) and then have bottle with me at work.

JamPasty · 23/08/2018 12:57

As a PP said, it doesn't have to be water - any liquids count. Possibly don't try 2 litres of red bull though ;)

imnottoofussed · 23/08/2018 13:01

About 2l. 4 cups of tea is approx 1l then I have a bottle which holds 500ml so I drink 2-3 of these filled with cordial throughout the day. Just to reiterate it doesn't have to be plain water.

Ohyesiam · 23/08/2018 13:10

Build up slowly op, then your kidneys/bladder get used to it and you won’t need to pee all the time.

Anxious2niteaaah · 23/08/2018 13:26

If you struggle with drinking water because of the taste, trying adding a capful of dilute /squash...or even add some fresh fruit juice (either store bought or something you have liquidised ) to flavour it...it makes it tastier and more appealing to drink

Game0fScones · 23/08/2018 13:39

I use an incredibly sophisticated and scientific method for deciding on water intake. It's called thirst. Worked for our ancestors, works for me 😊. Don't drink much. Healthy as a horse.

CrazyDaisy2018 · 23/08/2018 13:42

I have a 350ml glass on my desk at work and refill it while gossiping by the water cooler around 5 or 6 times a day. That, plus a hot drink and a soft drink at lunchtime, plus one or two drinks when I get home of an evening probably means around 9 x 350ml equivalents a day, so around 3 litres.

At the weekend though because I'm not chained to my desk I drink a lot less - maybe only 1.5 litres a day. I can really tell though as I don't need to wee so often and when I do it's not clear like it is during the week!

I get bored of the water by the afternoon so have some of those Robinsons squash shot things. They're lovely and come in lots of flavours. I have a range on my desk including Orange, Apple & Blackcurrent and Passionfruit and Mango!

AnnieOH1 · 23/08/2018 13:43

I drink around 3.5 litres of fluid a day, but if I'm busy that can easily be 8 or 9 litres. How much of that is plain water is less than 500ml a day.

Blobby10 · 23/08/2018 13:43

I drink around 4 litres plus 4 mugs of coffee and occasionally a cup of tea. Currently drinking more as weather is humid.

I have 2 pints when I wake up, before the gym (5am so no breakfast!), then another 2 pints when I get back from gym and a cup of coffee. 3 mugs of coffee at work plus around 3 x litre bottles of plain tap water whilst at work. Maybe another pint of water during the evening, occasionally a glass of wine or gin & tonic.

Do wonder if I'm overdoing it sometimes.....................
