To expect to be paid

I started a job on 3rd August. It didn’t really work out, so I only did a few shifts but Aibu to still expect to be paid?

You should get paid for the shifts you did, but I wouldn’t expect any pay until their normal pay day (usually end of the month).

Thatsfuckingshit · 22/08/2018 17:03

You should expect to be paid for however much you worked. Unless there is a compelling reason.

Struggling to think of one though.

Have they said they aren't paying you? What's the reason?

NT53NJT · 22/08/2018 17:04

Of course you should be paid . You'll get paid when they do their payday cycle

Glumglowworm · 22/08/2018 17:05

Yes you should get paid, but I would expect it would be paid the same day you would’ve been paid if you’d stayed.

ilovesooty · 22/08/2018 17:06

If pay day is at the end of the month they won't pay you until payroll is processed.

notbeenpaid18 · 22/08/2018 17:06

Normal pay day is Friday, I should have been paid 2 weeks ago

OP posts:
notbeenpaid18 · 22/08/2018 17:07

As in weekly on Fridays

Carrrotsandcauliflower · 22/08/2018 17:07

Yanbu You should be paid for the shifts.

Thatsfuckingshit · 22/08/2018 17:08

So when you contacted them to say you hadn't been paid, what did they say?

notbeenpaid18 · 22/08/2018 17:09

That I’d be paid on Friday but I should have had a payslip by now.

OP posts:
Thatsfuckingshit · 22/08/2018 17:17

So you are getting paid?

notbeenpaid18 · 22/08/2018 17:20

Erm, no, that’s why I started this thread.

I should have been paid on the 10th then the 17th

No pay in the 10th, assumed mix up

No pay on the 17th, rang them, they promised it would be in on the 24th

But normally payslips come Wednesday afternoon via email.

OP posts:
w4ytoomuch · 22/08/2018 17:20

Quite often payslips aren't available til the day before. So I think YABU to jump to conclusions just yet.

w4ytoomuch · 22/08/2018 17:20

Ah. X post

Myheartbelongsto · 22/08/2018 17:22

It's not even the 24th.

notbeenpaid18 · 22/08/2018 17:24

No but I should have had a payslip.

My previous employer had a £100 fee taken from your wages if you left before the end of your probationary period for "training". How collectable that fee was I'm not sure.

notbeenpaid18 · 22/08/2018 17:38

I wondered if it was something like that, but they told me not to come back - I was willing to.

OP posts:
youarenot · 22/08/2018 18:09

What was the reason given for telling you not to come back?

notbeenpaid18 · 22/08/2018 18:33

Well, i had a family emergency on one day so had to ring in, then my car broke down so I couldn’t work.

OP posts:
user139328237 · 22/08/2018 18:41

So you managed to not show up twice within your first month and can't see why they didn't want to continue to employ you. Within your first month any family emergency short of your spouse/child/parent dying or being in hospital with a poor prognosis should not be a reason to not attend work and if your car breaks get a bus or walk.

Thatsfuckingshit · 22/08/2018 18:45

How long did you actually work for them?

How many shifts were you scheduled and how many did you actually do?

Nacreous · 22/08/2018 18:46

Have you started a thread about this before?

They must pay you at least minimum wage for the work you have done.

m.acas.org.uk/index.aspx?articleid=1366

As per ACAS, above, you must take every effort to resolve it but can then take to employment tribunal. Make sure you keep any texts or emails asking you to work. Tribunal process must be started within 3 months.

DianaT1969 · 22/08/2018 18:47

Were you on time and did the full shifts? If so, I'd drop them an email to remind them of the shifts.

DianaT1969 · 22/08/2018 18:52

Ah, I remember this thread. They might feel you caused disruption/loss of income and not feel inclined to hurry to pay. Particularly if the shifts you did involved training.
You'll need to check your rights with acas and your contract, if you had one, and remind them I guess.
