My brother and his girlfriend came to stay in my share house in a trendy area with lots of good, cheap restaurants well within walking distance. Last time he came to stay he was single, chatty and easy-going and fun to have around, so I was looking forward to it.
On my day off and in the mornings I took them out to places I thought they'd like. I work from 3pm until 10pm. She informed me that he had refused to go out for dinner so they didn't have any when I was at work.
I gave them my bed, with mosquito net, and slept on the sofa. She informed me in the morning that he was annoyed by the mosquitos.
The day before they left she wanted to show her apreciation by making walnut pancakes, but we didn't have enough eggs. I wanted to rest far more than I wanted pancakes, so I tried to give her directions to the shops, but she wasn't having any of it; we had to go out (on foot) in the heat to find a shop open. My brother stayed on the sofa.
I was resentful. I made a snotty comment about her wanting to show off by making pancakes. She looked really offended. She loves cooking and is good at it. She felt she was doing something nice for me.
I suppose we were all being unreasonable, but from most unreasonable to least?

Ok, people, you are doing this wrong. The correct answer is:

Most unreasonable: The girlfriend, for sucking the life out of the brother and being wussy and for making pancakes, which are really overated by the way, and complaining about the mosquitos.

Next most unreasonable: Us, for not having the wit or intelligence to understand the situation. Shame on us all.

A little unreasonable: The OP, who despite huge provocation that holiday managed to keep her cool, but did snap that once.

Not at all unreasonable: The brother, who can do no wrong

It sounds like the GF is the painful one TBH. You said your brother was fine when he visited on his own last time? A lot of the time we share small annoyances with our partners. Things we wouldn't complain about to other family or friends. Eg, maybe your brother was a bit bothered about mosquitos last time he visited, but didn't mention it to you as he was being polite. This time around he has mentioned it to his GF who took it upon herself to tell you. Maybe he was too tired to go out to dinner and this didn't bother him, but it bothered her so she told you. He stayed on the sofa when you took her to the shops because maybe he just need a real from her. She sounds high maintenance.

*a break from her.

Not a real from her.

TooTrueToBeGood · 24/08/2018 12:02

Note to self: Do not fall out with SchadenfreudePersonified, they don't miss and hit the wall.

cricketmum84 · 24/08/2018 12:24

@KinkyEggscort maybe we've all cracked up from all the eggstreme puns

KinkyEggscort · 24/08/2018 12:59

@cricketmum84 absolutely, no more yolking around!

Better share some of these puns, wouldn't want to be shellfish

Next time, just say to your brother, “DB, can you not speak directly to me if there is a problem? I get that you aren’t enjyyourself by your fucking sulky demeanour. Perhaps you’d like to go home?”

Your brother sounds like a dick.
