My DS has the use of my car.

It's an old banger which is insured SDP and commuting only.

I usually drop him at work as it's on my way. It's a 5 min drive or a 30 min walk.

His job is partly office based but also involves site visits, up to 15-20 places in a day. Normally he goes out with a colleague in their car.

I am away for the next 3 days. He has just sent me a msg asking if he can use the car for work this week.

I have said no. He's not insured and if he drives it he is in breach of the policy, we risk having our policy voided and not being able to get cover in future.

He said he doesn't see how anyone will know Hmm. Although I have said no I don't trust him to do as I say...on that basis WiBU to also take the keys, even though this means he'll be stuck with no car for the rest of the week?

What did they say the cost was for three days? You don’t need a year’s coverage.

And how much was it for the 3 days? Basing it on how much extra it was to add my son to my policy for the year (around £700) then the £2 we were charged for the day seemed to be more or less the amount divided by 365. So, the charge for the change you need for the 3 days should be £3 ish plus any admin fee (if any).

However, I get the vibes that you just don't want him to use it for work which is absolutely fine as it's your car and your insurance. But I would just tell him that rather than tie it all up in stuff that can be easily resolved with a phone call from you and by him speaking to his manager.

They don't add business cover for just days at a time. It's deemed too high risk. We would either have to cancel the policy and take a new one out, or just have this added when we renew next month (and he doesn't usr it for work in the meantime).

Fair dos Op. Guess the decision now is whether you trust him to not use it if he has access to the keys.
