I mean HOW? Just HOW?

I am an average height (5 ft 4ish) and the rail was up to my chest when me and DH went on a cruise ship 3 years ago. It was like this on the attached pic.

Also don’t think fit has anything to do with it, higher muscle mass would have made her less bouyant. I on the other hand could have floated for 10 weeks and kept really warm. I would have been taken in by a pod of whales as one of their own😂

LagerthaTheShieldMaiden · 20/08/2018 18:31

I'm wondering that too boredmaman. Genuinely curious what people think.

TSSDNCOP · 20/08/2018 18:32

Thank you Nikita. I think she must be vg at it.

Mummy that made me laugh.

Frazzled2207 · 20/08/2018 18:35

There's no doubt she's been extremely lucky.
Personally, unless it it found to be a genuine accident which is v unlikely, I think she should be sent the bill for her rescue.

boredmaman · 20/08/2018 18:37

A norwegian cruise ship worker fell off a different ship last month and was found alive 22 hours later in the water.
Far from being a miraculous event it appears to happen regularly!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/08/2018 18:38

After a couple of weeks or so of cruise food, I imagine many of us are the same Grin

Cocolepew · 20/08/2018 18:39

I slipped in the bath the other night and panicked.
I'd be dead in minutes if I fell into the sea.

LeftRightCentre · 20/08/2018 18:44

If I were on that ship I'd be fuming at that crazy bitch! I hope the line sues her for fucking up everyone's trip getting drunk and being stupid. I was once on a ship, the Navigator of the Seas, where a man was already visibly wasted in the dining room. My dad and I later saw him arguing with the crew in the doorway of deck 4, screeching, 'You can't take my sea pass!' He was being removed. Never saw him on the rest of the trip and we hadn't even got to any of the ports.

Maybugger · 20/08/2018 18:46

Not waiting for her to be fêted by every tabloid/chat show and milking it for everything she can.
I would have died of fright before even hitting the water 😳

Knittedfairies · 20/08/2018 18:53

According to an article in the paper today, 319 people have fallen overboard from cruise liners since 2000. 319..

Tokelau · 20/08/2018 18:53

If she did jump in on purpose, perhaps she took something buoyant with her, and let it float away when they came to rescue her.

Hoozz · 20/08/2018 18:54

HollyGibney The cruise storyline was only a minor part, but it was called I Am Missing by Tim weaver

butlerswharf · 20/08/2018 18:54

These stories put me off going on a cruise.

PolkerrisBeach · 20/08/2018 18:59

You don't just fall off. She must have been climbing over barriers or actively jumping.

LeftRightCentre · 20/08/2018 19:03

These stories put me off going on a cruise.

Why? There is no way you can just fall off. I've been on dozens of cruise ships now, of varying sizes. You can't just fall off. I've slipped on decks, blown over on decks, gone running on tracks on decks. done obstacle courses over decks, you can't just fall off.

GabsAlot · 20/08/2018 19:03

been thinking all day she claims she was sitting down aswell-what she magically floated off the side?

beedn on three cruises you wo0uld have to climb to get over

TheClitterati · 20/08/2018 19:06

My burning question is how did they know she had fallen off the boat?

If someone saw her hey would have started. Looking straight away.

Very odd.

LeftRightCentre · 20/08/2018 19:08

She was probably leathered. At any rate, the ships are full of cameras so I hope it's all recorded and revealed that she was being a clown. It'd be a pity if folks were put off cruising because fools make idiots out of themselves. Hell, I've been on several Carnival ships where people were much better behaved.

CoolCarrie · 20/08/2018 19:08

The second side of Hounds Of Love album by Kate Bush is called The Ninth Wave and is about a woman floating in the sea after a ship wreck. Very atmospheric piece

LeftRightCentre · 20/08/2018 19:10

There are tons of cameras on those ships, Clitt. On many of them you can actually turn on the telly and watch the Lido deck and the forward and aft decks live 24/7.

youarenotkiddingme · 20/08/2018 19:14

Reports seem to be saying her OH couldn't find her and reported it. They checked cctv and then could work out where she went over.

Does she honestly believe anyone will think she was just say down, with her handbag with passport in by the side of her, in shorts and bikini top - at nearly midnight.
And just happened to fall overboard.

She's clearly thicker then she thinks we are!

The surviving thing really isn't as miraculous as it sounds. It's actually virtually impossible to actively drown yourself. As like when you hold your breath your brain will tell to to breathe in when it gets hypoxic.
If you are in a bath or under water it will also tell itself to get to the surface.
The things that cause drowning are, for example, heavily drugged or drunk which alters brain activity, injury that alters brain activity. Or in the case of seas for example having panicked and inhaled water so the drowning is the lungs filling with water, or injury so you can't get to the surface or even rough weather where the seas pull you and you can't navigate your way to the surface. Also cold water that slows down the brain activity due to hypothermia.

That's why there's lots of talk of the calm seas and temps. Even if she laid back and dosed off briefly at periods as soon as she went under and couldn't breathe in her brain will have alerted her and she would have woken up.

Was that a red Virgin uniform she make public all over FB that was reprinted in the national newspaper? Sure looked like it.

CCTV showed her alone when she “fell” so
1/ they know exactly what happened
2/ she’s too stupid to realise it’s all on cctv
3/ crap about boyfriend being arrested on FB is gossip

Blackness78 · 20/08/2018 19:19

I was just thinking of the same book! . A brilliant read.

butlerswharf · 20/08/2018 19:33

I loved the fact she thought to knot her rescue tshirt too Grin

KindergartenKop · 20/08/2018 19:35

This is really interesting. She must have been knackered!
