To not understand people who can’t hold their drink

And yet still go out and get shitfaced every single time?

We’ve all been there and had nights out where we got far too drunk and embarrassed ourselves but I’m talking about the people that do this constantly.

Why would you constantly want to embarrass yourself, ruin people’s nights and expect to be looked after? Confused

Also some people will say "never again" but they don't mean it, they find it fun to behave as you describe op

Btw baffled why some posters are being so rude to op.

FIZl is nearly 70 and didn’t get the memo. He goes out pubcrawling with men half his age and has ended up in hospital. Didn’t stop him even after doctor’s wArnings.

Lots of people have an issue with alcohol and then there is the stereotypica alcoholic.
I would describe myself as an alcoholic, I haven't drink since June '17 so a recovering one, but I know I couldn't have one drink as it would soon turn very messy!
Even so, I was high functioning and most people wouldn't have said I was an alcoholic (even though I was drinking in excess of 100 units a week). These people you describe who know when they drink it all goes wrong, then still drink and it all goes wrong, may not fit your idea of an alcoholic but clearly they have a problem! It's not as easy as saying why do they still drink...because for some people once one drink has been consumed all bets are off Confused

Because Britain is a nation of alcoholics. Binge drinking is acceptable and even encouraged from a young age. Teetotalers are mocked. When was the last time you went to an event that didn't offer alcohol? The age limit should be increased and ID checks enforced.

YABU OP. People are free do what they like, they don’t need to satisfy your curiosity

Guienne · 19/08/2018 17:27

I can never understand how or why people actually make plans to go out and get so drunk that they will be close to incapable and will have no memory of any of it. What on earth is the point?

BlairWaldorfsHeadband · 19/08/2018 17:27

The age limit should be increased and ID checks enforced

To be fair they are enforced. I get IDd bloody everywhere when buying anything age restricted and I’m on my twenties with kids!

DolorestheNewt · 19/08/2018 17:29

Not sure the age limit would help. Might just kick the can down the road a bit, so to speak.

Sparklesocks · 19/08/2018 17:47

I don’t think changing the age limit would help. Teens and young adults find a way to get drink if they want it.

I think there might be something in introducing it in smaller quantities to teens, like having a small glass of wine or half a lager with a big meal. It might demystify the big allure of alcohol and mean they aren’t as likely to binge when they hit 18. If drinking is not a big deal you might be less likely to go off the rails when you can legally do it. It seems to work in places like France.

Kids now don’t drink as much anyway. Too busy sending dick pics on snapchat to try buying 20/20 with their sisters driving license

Anyone who has ever worked in pubs & clubs knows that alcohol simply doesn’t agree with some people. They are completely fine when sober, but turn into belligerent, abusive arseholes when they are pissed. This can happen to all types of people. Male, female, old, young, rich, poor. Some people from all backgrounds just can’t hold their drink.

It’s not that they have a drink problem in terms of alcoholism, it’s that drink turns them into a problem for those around them. Ideally, of course, such individuals would have the self-awareness to realise that they needed to drink moderately or not at all, but that doesn’t seem to happen, unfortunately.
