I dont shop at just one shop for groceries, I shop around, I am happy to get everything supermarket own label in whichever shop I'm in, apart from a few things! Can anyone help steer me from these brands by recommending cheaper alternatives please?
Daz washing powder /capsules, I just find these clean the best.

Lenor fabric conditioner

Vimto cordial, all other cordial just tastes too sweet and syrupy!

Kp dry roasted peanuts, dh won't eat any others!

Quavers, are there any very similar?

Nescafe cappuccino sachets, all others I've tried are not as good.

I know it's not a lot of things but these things are something we buy every week (apart from laundry things which is less often) and can add up to quite a bit depending on what shop I buy them in.

I get my vimto from bm bargains or home bargains. Its only a 1.00. Poundland do it too. Never found a drink that matches it in taste.

MissCharleyP · 19/08/2018 20:18

Aldi salted peanuts and cashews are the same as any branded ones - a nut is a nut.

The drinks - I like Belvoir & Bottlegreen cordials, sometimes on offer. Never used fabric conditioner.

TheFishInThePot · 19/08/2018 20:18

If you have a branch of savers near you, they sell Daz 40 wash boxes for about 10p a wash. Apart from Aldi and Lidl I think that pretty much matches a supermarket washing powder anyway.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/08/2018 20:21

The only branded food/toiletries and cleaning products I buy now is birds eye peas, and I might stop buying them as well

Aldi petits pois for this one ... not the ordinary peas, but the posh sort in the black packet

They'll still cost you less than Birds Eye and are much nicer

cumberlandsausages · 19/08/2018 20:22

All cappuccino sachets will be rank and not like a cappuccino.

BonnieF · 19/08/2018 20:26

Lidl Jaffa cakes are nicer than Mcvitie’s & Lidl fruit & nut chocolate is better than Cadbury’s.

Moonflower12 · 19/08/2018 20:27

@Puzzledandpissedoff
Beat me to it. Was going to post about Aldi petit pois. They are so nice.

bobstersmum · 19/08/2018 20:30

Thanks for the replies and suggestions everyone. I will try water in the fridge, it's worth a shot! Cappuccino sachets are a sachet of powder you pour hot water on and it gives you a passable cappuccino! I love one in the morning.

I am mind blown about not using fabric conditioner! I am going to try it, but doesn't it make clothes stiffer?

If you’re a wotsits fan then give Cheetos a go. They taste the same, have the same customer service address on the back as wotsits do and you get 8 packs in a pack for £1 rather than 6. Also if you’re on weight watchers the 3g difference per pack means you save a smartpoint 😂

CSIblonde · 19/08/2018 20:37

Asda's own fruit n fibre cereal is 1.45 for a box twice the size of the brand one & much nicer/more fruit.
You don't need fabric conditioner. Stop using it, you won't notice any diff.
Tesco mayonnaise is 75p & tastes exactly same as branded.
Tesco & Asda 'gold' coffee is half price of branded & tastes same.

happypoobum · 19/08/2018 20:44

I never use fabric conditioner - total rip off.

I love Tesco value baked beans!!!

queenofthecasa · 19/08/2018 20:48

Asda Little Angels nappies- just as good as Pampers and much cheaper 😊

raviolidreaming · 19/08/2018 20:54

I always notice if a wash is done without fabric softener. I think it must depend on how hard / soft your water is, and possibly how sensitive your skin is 🤷‍♀️

hiddenmnetter · 19/08/2018 21:20

im Sorry but how does putting tap water in the fridge get rid of chlorine? That sounds like total bunkum.

If you have family members who 'have' to have certain brands, why not subject them to an Eat Well for Less style challenge where you put their must have brand, and the Aldi or Lidl equivalent in plain tubs and get them to think about which they prefer.

Even if they like the branded one better, if it's a pound a pack cheaper and nearly as nice, and they have a pack a week, so £52 a year cheaper, they might be happy to take the cheaper pack and the £52, which is effectively what the choice is.

I think Aldi pringles are nicer than the real deal, and they're cheaper than actual pringles, even when on permanent special offers.

Only thing I don't like in Aldi is squash, because they don't have a non artificial sweetner version, which is also true for Asda, Tesco and Morrisons, so we have to go to Waitrose or M&S for squash.

MintCassis · 19/08/2018 21:32

Aldi's Choco Break, 75p for 8 and much better than KitKats!

BarbaraofSevillle · 19/08/2018 21:32

I've discovered during this hot summer that's it's nice to have chilled water from the fridge. Saves loads of water running the tap to get rid of the warm water in the pipes. But ours is fine straight from the tap, apart from hot weather when it's not cold enough.

angelnix · 19/08/2018 21:46

Have you tried putting your tap water through in a fridge water filter? Yes, you have to pay out for the original jug and cartridges, but you'll save money on squash.

Bumblealong1 · 19/08/2018 21:55

@hiddenmnetter
Cooling water is known as a way of masking the taste of chlorine..

LockedOutOfMN · 19/08/2018 21:56

I don't use fabric conditioner.

Own brand knicker liners are vastly superior to the branded ones.

LalaLeona · 19/08/2018 21:59

Lidl has just started doing their own version of nakd bars they are absolutely identical and much cheaper

LockedOutOfMN · 19/08/2018 22:00

I think Lidl is also bringing out its own version of GRAZE snack pots.

happypoobum · 19/08/2018 22:01

What is "fanny cream?" Blush
