To wish Superdrug weren't branching out into Botox

Superdrug is offering Botox and dermal fillers to customers over the age of 25. They are launching it at one of their London stores before rolling it out nationwide. Treatments start at £99 and involve a consultation with a qualified nurse. They are apparently just giving customers what they've been asking for.

Aside from the obvious risks to people's health, aibu to feel slightly depressed that these procedures are being treated as an everyday beauty treatment. I know it can be quite traumatic to see your face ageing and we all want to look the best we can but surely as a society we can come to terms with it a lot better if we reject this constant narrative that tells us we're not good enough and celebrate what nature gave us and each other? Botox always looks dreadful anyway in my opinion!

Yes there can be some irreversible nasties (that we know of, not the ones we don't), BlueLady - if people looked them up they might think twice.

theycallmebabydriver · 19/08/2018 15:04

Boots tried this around 2001, it ran for about 2 years and it wasn't viable so it died a death, maybe there's more demand for high street botox now, there certainly wasn't then but I suspect the same thing will happen in this case.

winterdeballesteros · 19/08/2018 15:07

I'm pregnant but I can't wait to have Botox when I can! I think I'm going to get it for my fortieth. When I was younger I was very anti this sort of thing but now I look so rough I don't care anymore.

I probably wouldn't get it at Superdrug though, to be honest...

winterdeballesteros · 19/08/2018 15:11

@Ollivander84 you look great! Did you get your forehead done? That's the bit I want done, it's either that or a fringe to hide the wrinkles.

Ollivander84 · 19/08/2018 15:13

I had my forehead for horizontal lines done and in between my eyebrows. Heavier between my brows and a tiny amount on my forehead as facial expressions important in my job!

MrsJayy · 19/08/2018 15:14

I probably wouldn't get it at Superdrug though, to be honest...

Why not ? They have to be registered and regulated and trained so what is the difference between superdrug and a salon ?

MrsJayy · 19/08/2018 15:16

Or cosmetic clinic*

Putyourdamnshoeson · 19/08/2018 15:28

It's normalising something which is quite frankly batshit.
Women should be able to age without plastering ourselves with chemicals inside and out.
I don't give a shit that everyone is doing it. It's vain, narcissistic bollocks.

JuneFromBethesda · 19/08/2018 15:30

YANBU. It’s depressing.

bananafish81 · 19/08/2018 15:37

Never a true-er word was said. Most people who've had botox look like they've had a stick put up them (frozen and 'up themselves' look).

Most people who've had bad botox do, yes

Tonnes of people do who you'll have no idea about

Why not ? They have to be registered and regulated and trained so what is the difference between superdrug and a salon ?

I wouldn't ever go to a salon

I wouldn't get botox done by a nurse

I wouldn't get botox done by a Dr who'd done the botox course to make some money on the side

I'd only get botox done by a consultant dermatologist or plastic surgeon with training in facial anatomy as well as aesthetic procedures. There's a lot of very important nerve and muscle structures in the face - my GP mates said not a chance do they have the right training to do botox competently to the required degree in their clinical opinion

(I see a consultant dermatologist for mine)

NoClueWhatNext · 19/08/2018 15:38

damnshoes couldn't have put it better!

twattymctwatterson · 19/08/2018 15:42

It's already on the high street in beauty therapists, performed by unlicensed people. At least in Superdrug it'll be offered by a medical professional. At the end of the day they're a business fulfilling a customer demand

Putyourdamnshoeson · 19/08/2018 15:49

So are bookies, but that doesn't mean they're not depressing AF.

marsbarsandtwix · 19/08/2018 15:59

YANBU

Heaven forbid anybody should look old or tired or angry. Better we should all look frozen/in shock and spend £hundreds getting our faces injected with poison.

Putyourdamnshoeson · 19/08/2018 16:01

^^yup

Ollivander84 · 19/08/2018 16:08

Because everyone with Botox looks frozen and in shock Hmm
I just hated looking in the mirror and seeing so much pain etched on my face. I didn't have it before and I don't want it now

NoClueWhatNext · 19/08/2018 16:10

Interestingly, whenever I look at Beauty Slebs who've had it done - its like they lose their actual "beauty" in the process. They lose their fine features - even getting older shows fine features - even exagerrates them! I always think they look like blowsy alcoholics, all puffy. I have never seen a Sleb escape this look, no matter how expensive or qualified their botox doctor.

Nooblynoo · 19/08/2018 16:14

It's a thing, it's a phase. If someone wants to have botox for non medical reasons, they can afford it and it's done legally and medically correct then what is the problem. Superdrug also sells phones, they're moving with the times and giving the customer what they want.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 19/08/2018 16:55

Ace! Hope it goes nationwide

Putyourdamnshoeson · 19/08/2018 17:10

Yes queen actually, me too. Its a fantastic early warning signal of who to avoid as I'll have nothing in common with them.

youokhon · 19/08/2018 17:17

@MrsKiplin thanks for the link, I would not describe any of those things as health risks though!

marsbarsandtwix · 19/08/2018 17:48

what, double vision or difficulty breathing? Confused
okay so it's rare, but not a risk everyone wants to take.

9amTrain · 19/08/2018 17:49

"nothing in common with them"

😂😂😂 Because one thing means you can't have anything in common with them?

Oh please.

Biscuit
Loopytiles · 19/08/2018 17:52

Even “good” Botox is easy to spot.

It’s literally poison.

Putyourdamnshoeson · 19/08/2018 17:53

9am the people I know who have botox are without exception shallow, narcissistic bores.
