In London at a party. £10 for a fucking g&t. Pretentious crowd. Would rather be at home in my pj's with a cup of tea. Aibu??

Why do you think Samuel Johnson was wrong?

Don't you think that things just might have changed in the centuries since he said it?

meadowmeow · 19/08/2018 12:00

I have seen Hamilton 🙋🏼‍

misses point of thread completely

Womaningreen · 19/08/2018 12:08

@meadowmeow that made me LOL

there was a drama about the Great Fire of London which shows Pepys alleged remark that if London burns down, all that's left is a few sheep.

seriously though, no coincidence that many rich people had country houses. I can't WAIT to get out of here (elderly mother, after that you won't see me for dust).

PositiveVibez · 19/08/2018 12:13

Gotta love MN. Even if you were complaining about a 30 quid g&t there would always be an Elevenerife poster saying that wAs in fact cheap!

Agreed

EatSleepRantRepeat · 19/08/2018 12:38

I'm done with London. Lived and worked here for 18 years and in that time it's become even more soulless, expensive and insular. Most of the people I meet here have never left the m25-cornwall corridor, even the ones from abroad who came here to 'travel' (ie use cheap flights to weekend back and forth in Europe). The people I meet in London never actually been out in Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds etc yet somehow think Hoxton-Shoreditch is the pinnacle of UK creativity.

I feel the need to set up a northerner 'expat' support group until I manage to persuade DH to move.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 19/08/2018 12:47

Are you suggesting some on MN stealth boast Shock

Jeanclaudejackety · 19/08/2018 13:59

I saw Hamilton In new York. Incomparable to the London cast IMO! I live in the North and my cheaper lifestyle enabled me to pay for the trip 😎🤸😜

That's my Elevenerife moment for the day!!

EachandEveryone · 19/08/2018 14:03

That is the benefit of living up north a grant you. Jobs are an issue though.

I’m having a pleasant stroll around Covent Garden as we speak. Ive also experienced many cities but London just has something. Not for long though Sad

Ok boozing is dearer and property but there’s genuinely nothing else that I can think of.

DameDoom · 19/08/2018 14:10

Thing is, if you are near enough good road or rail links, London is literally a stone's throw from anywhere. When I was in Oz, friends would think nothing of driving for hours to have a coffee with a friend.
Am going shopping in London on Tuesday, safe in the knowledge I'll be home in 2 hours enjoying my massive garden and lovely views. Best of both.

FurryDogMother · 19/08/2018 14:26

Good gawd, I can't think of anything worse than being out in London for the evening and paying stupid prices for drinks - I loathe the place having worked there for many years. Nowadays I far prefer living rurally - but perhaps that's just a symptom of aging - though can't remember a time when I actually liked London. Think I've been there once a year for the past 3 years, because it takes a year for the shudders to wear off!

YANBU OP!

EachandEveryone · 19/08/2018 16:39

It’s every other week on this site!

I would have loved to have seen Lin- Manuel Miranda he’s amazing. ( I heart him)
