Ohgivemestrength1 · 18/08/2018 22:29

In London at a party. £10 for a fucking g&t. Pretentious crowd. Would rather be at home in my pj's with a cup of tea. Aibu??

OP posts:
Bubbaduck · 19/08/2018 00:42

My favourite night out in London involved nothing but £45 bottles of champagne which was cheaper than I've spent closer to home when out. I was shocked it wasn't twice the price.

Graphista · 19/08/2018 00:46

"Where the fuck are you drinking in Glasgow than a gin and tonic costs a tenner??" Just what I was thinking! Even blythswood sq and champagne bar aren't that dear! If you're paying that in glasgow you're a mug!

Op yanbu. Head home and feet up, save your money.

PolkaHots · 19/08/2018 00:53

I’d love to be out on a twatty London night out right now.

HarshingMyMellow · 19/08/2018 01:04

I remember being in a night out in Chelsea and paying £21 for 2 shots!
I need needed a vodka to get over it.

YANBU. Go home!

HarshingMyMellow · 19/08/2018 01:04

*on not in

Rebecca36 · 19/08/2018 01:06

Nobody forced you to go. Don't be a party pooper if others are enjoying themselves.

KnobOfStork · 19/08/2018 01:14

I'm still outraged about the time 3 years ago I paid £10.05 for a kopparberg and a jameson and coke in Camden, and more recently £6 for 3/4 a pint in a wanky pop up in Manchester. We still have £1.50 spirit and mixers in these parts and £4+ for any drink gets an icy response. I think I would cry if I was asked a tenner. seething about paying £13 for 3 pints in a posh place last night Grin
Get home to your jammies OP!

EachandEveryone · 19/08/2018 01:15

The trick is not to drink spirits in bars, i find. I get drunker on either a fancy cocktail or just posh cider.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 19/08/2018 01:15

£10 is cheap for a gnt

No it's not. That's just being silly.

grumpy4squash · 19/08/2018 01:29

My last 2 nights out in London were to see Jack White play in Hammersmith and to see Hamilton. Yes absolute boasts.... good luck experiencing that in the sticks.

Spirited My last two were to Les Mis and Hamilton (also boasts). I live in the sticks.

Last time I went in for drinks with friends, a double G&T was £17.50. The company was good though.

Leeds2 · 19/08/2018 01:35

Fwiw, I paid £10 for a large glass of pinot Grigio earlier this evening, in Leeds. I was shocked!

MissionItsPossible · 19/08/2018 03:25

I must be drinking in some real dive bars in Birmingham as i would baulk at the idea of a G&T costing a tenner.

LeeValley2 · 19/08/2018 03:37

I’m guessing the pp meant that theatre like Hamilton can only be experienced in London. It’s not doing a regional tour is it? Obviously people can travel from the sticks into London, but if you live in London it’s on your doorstep.

forzaH · 19/08/2018 03:46

If you're tired of London then you're tired of life.

The best few years with DH (then live-in boyfriend) were in Maida Vale.

Goldangel · 19/08/2018 03:59

Agree fozraH

I’ve spent far more than a tenner over the years on my DC on utter crap! Enjoy that £10 G&T enjoy your night out 😉

actualpuffins · 19/08/2018 04:00

If you're tired of London then you're tired of life.

Utter nonsense.

Goldangel · 19/08/2018 04:04

Lol, I’m clearly a Londoner!! (Currently on holiday 10am here)

forzaH · 19/08/2018 04:13

@actualpuffins

Going to say more?

I've lived in capital cities (and other places) around the world and London is an amazing city to live in. Bangkok, Hong Kong, Manila, Nairobi, Tashkent, Jakarta, Kampala and New Delhi - all are great but none are as good.

I've moved back to the SW where I grew up but still look forward to trips to London every few months.

Why do you think Samuel Johnson was wrong?

Notveryadventurousname · 19/08/2018 04:15

Yep... £10 for G&T in Edinburgh...but is festival time.....and it had black pepper in it (so not to be sneezed at).

A bar owner I know says the price of G&T has to be marked up to cover the cost of the big glasses being stolen. They lose loads of them.

DameDoom · 19/08/2018 04:36

I still love London but from a distance. After 10 years I was done, packed my bags and came back to the glorious north. Two hours on the train means I get my big city fix every couple of months but I couldn't cope on a regular basis plus I'd now balk at a tenner G&T.

Tartyflette · 19/08/2018 05:46

FWIW I was in a country pub in rural Essex on Friday (just popped in for a light lunch - whitebait and salt and pepper squid) but not only did they have four different Kinds of chips chunky, skinny, triple cooked and sweet potato, there was also an extensive gin and tonic menu,
page and a half of weird-sounding gins and half a page of tonics, with flowery descriptions and pairing suggestions.
No prices! But I'm guessing you wouldn't get much, if any, change out if a tenner for one of those.

Womaningreen · 19/08/2018 11:38

"Why do you think Samuel Johnson was wrong?"

because lots of people live very happily after leaving London?

YouTheCat · 19/08/2018 11:45

I went to a right wanky, hipster place in Newcastle. It was a work do. £9/£10 for a half a beer and a small wine. Didn't stay long.

HRTpatch · 19/08/2018 11:48

I regularly pay £10 for g and t up north.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 19/08/2018 11:56

What tired old rubbish.
