Where I work there are stair from reception to the upper floor. Nearly almost without exception men take these stairs two at a time - I have never once seen a woman doing this. It's not even just tall men, it's short men as well. What is this all about?

Actually, it can be quite attractive in men. Not so in women😂

KindergartenKop · 18/08/2018 14:19

I am tall and fo it two at a time when nobody is watching. The traffic on the stairs moves so slowly when it's busy that it's impossible then anyway.
I'd agree that it's not seen as 'feminine'. Another bloody thing holding us back. I'll make more effort to take them two at a time from now on.

RoseWhiteTips · 18/08/2018 14:20

How about three at a time?

longwayoff · 18/08/2018 15:01

O happy memories of stairs 2 at a time. Now just the prospect of a flight of stairs makes my knees.

wombat1a · 18/08/2018 15:06

DP says it depends on the steps, he says most steps are so small it doesn't make sense to take them one at time if he can manage two.

He also brought up another good point, he says very often the depth of the steps is a problem for him in that he can not get his whole foot onto the step which makes it awkward so taking them 2 a time means less of this.

kittypop · 18/08/2018 19:25

Ah so it depends on the size of the feet? One of my co-workers is over 6 feet and a size 10 and she still takes the stairs one at a time!

I find it less effort to take two at a time. I don't wear heels though...

DameSquashalot · 18/08/2018 19:37

...and I'm 5'2"

GrouchyKiwi · 18/08/2018 19:38

I used to go upstairs two at a time. It felt more comfortable and was quicker.

Post-children my joints are weaker so now I just do one at a time.

TheLittleThingsLikeVodka · 18/08/2018 19:46

Just asked dp, he said he does 2 at a time because it’s quicker, but he wouldn’t do it if other people were around because it looks stupid Hmm

SoleBizzz · 18/08/2018 19:53

And how men jump sideways over fences. Swing their legs over.

gamerwidow · 18/08/2018 19:59

I wish I could do 2 at a time but I am a clumsy ungainly fool.

KurriKurri · 18/08/2018 20:14

When I was little, I used to run upstairs on all fours, and bump down them on my bottom (also used to sometimes slide down on my front facing forwards - excellent way of descending).
Basically I'd still like to deal with stairs this way, but we live in a society that judges you on how you approach stairs Sad

thejeangenie36 · 18/08/2018 20:24

I'm a tall man and I sometimes take the stairs two at a time. I'd say it's a mixture of my height making this more natural, the depth on the stairs not fitting my large feet and so it's awkward to take one at a time, and a bit of showing off.

Labradoodliedoodoo · 18/08/2018 20:31

Stairs are a waste of space. It’s like dead time. Taking two at a time means getting it over with in a flash.

puzzledlady · 18/08/2018 20:35

hahaha - i do both - late for meeting - 2 steps, sometimes attempt 3. On time for meeting - 1 step.

Boulshired · 18/08/2018 20:36

DS1 does it but mainly because most stairs are two small for his feet so he has to place at an angle. He would trip over one step at a time.

WhatsInAnotherNameChange · 18/08/2018 20:38

My legs are too short to take two steps at a time.

I really am a 'little woman'.

bonquiqui · 18/08/2018 20:40

Every day without fail at my train station there'll be several man storming up the stairs two at a time like they're escaping from certain death - then at the top they'll be huffing and puffing as they limp towards the exit. To be fair, there's usually a few speedy active wear women doing focused little mini jogs up there one at a time too 😂

sakura06 · 18/08/2018 20:49

I've always taken stairs two at a time (female, average height).

Whiskeyjack · 18/08/2018 21:16

I go up on all fours if I am home and no one can see. I find that great fun. Way more effort though

junebirthdaygirl · 18/08/2018 21:51

I always take steps two at a time even at home. 5'6" and late 50s. Makes me feel young and sprightly. Hope to do it for many years to come.

WhatWouldCoachBombayDo · 18/08/2018 21:55

I haven't the coordination for 2 at a time, I fear if end up like Bambi on ice.

Plus I like to doddle, I'm never in a rush, people can wait for me 😂

tealandteal · 18/08/2018 21:59

I used to take the stairs 2 at a time but tripped so often I now take them slowly one at a time

Ginkypig · 19/08/2018 16:10

Ooh I forgot about all fours!

I don't have stairs at home now so never climb stairs privately so Iv not done that for years but I used to love that!
