School shoes

Can I ask what school shoes you have got/ are getting your children.

Ds1 (12) is going into Y8 (last year he went through 3 pair of Adidas Gazelles, 2 in the same size, 1 in a half size bigger.

Ds2 (9) Y4, went through 6 pairs last year (Adidas, 2 x kickers and Timberland ) because he grew 3 sizes last year...

I dislike Clarks shoes, however like Smart-rite, however the nearest store closed near us, and as hes a H fitting I can't buy them on line.

Just wondering what shoes your kids would wear.... plus last?

Shoes need to be all black and leather.

Ecco are really expensive but last really well. They reduce the price well in the sales usually. If they outgrow them put them on eBay

hazeyjane · 16/08/2018 22:20

Dd1 and 2 both wear DMs

Ds has Geox or Kickers - but there is the added nightmare of orthotic insoles to fit so it has taken 6 months and he is still in shoes a size too small.

MissWimpyDimple · 16/08/2018 22:23

Geox for DD who is going to yr 7. She tried the DM brogues but they were too heavy. The Geox have the same look but lighter and softer.

She's the same size as me!

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/08/2018 22:26

DD has had DM for the last 3 years and not yet managed to wear a pair out.

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/08/2018 22:26

I mean a pair per year, not the same pair for 3 years

Lucked · 16/08/2018 22:29

DS geox bought around the end of April but they still fit
DD M&S patent shoes but I will get her ankle boots for winter so don’t need to be long lasting.

TerfTerf2 · 16/08/2018 22:31

DS wears the Bootleg brand plain black lace-ups from Clarke's, but bought from John Lewis (I hate Clarke's shops) £44, last all school year. Leather uppers, rubber sole, withstands football and walking to school every day 2.5miles each way.

PullUpsAreTricky · 16/08/2018 22:31

geox have always lasted mine a complete year, My eldest is very heavy on shoes as well. Also, ours can't wear adidas gazelles for school, and I don't think that they are that durable either.

thismeansnothing · 16/08/2018 22:33

DD is only 6 but has one foot half a size bigger than the other, add the H fitting and school shoe shopping is hell.

Past brands she's had are Ricosta, Petasil and today she got Geox. We almost got Doc martens they fit perfect, are indestructible but she didn't want boots. Fair enough

CryHavoc · 16/08/2018 22:34

My daughter has had one pair of DMs every year since she went into year 3. She'll start year 6 next month and has chosen some (DM) brogues rather than her traditional Mary Janes.
They are comfortable, practical, and look brand new even at the end of the year. Much better value than Clarke's.

supadupapupascupa · 16/08/2018 22:39

My autistic son has ricosta (how do you spell it??) lasted really well all last year and lovely soft leather. Daughter has cheap Asda ones which get replaced as and when.

Seniorschoolmum · 16/08/2018 22:39

Clark’s for my 10yo. Usually they last a year (just about) but the last pair disintegrated in June, so I had to buy a new pair for the last weeks of term.
I hope they still fit him in September. Confused

Bellyscreen · 16/08/2018 22:39

Erm, I got them from Sainsbury’s...

SplishSplashSplosh · 16/08/2018 22:44

I got my DD (5) shoes from M&S today.

Last term, I bought her shoes from Clark's. Never again.

Macarena1990 · 16/08/2018 22:53

Eldest dd (12) chose black leather converse. She had kickers last year that wore really well.

Ds (7) has kickers and so does dd (3) who is starting nursery. They looked really strong and chunky so I thought they would fare better than Clarks for girls, which in my experience don't last 5 minutes.

BlitheringIdiots · 16/08/2018 23:23

DS going into year 8. Has only ever had one pair school shoes a year. Clark's. They last really well.

Rinoachicken · 16/08/2018 23:29

Having spent out on Clarke’s and kickers and the like and had them fall apart within a few months, I now buy from Sainsbury’s and asda! And have found them to be much more hardwearing tbh!!

Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 17/08/2018 18:58

I have given up on Clarks shoes ..not yet found a pair that fits properly ! Now buy Sketchers school shoes they are really good and we have an outlet shop so the ones I wanted for my DD Year 2 should have been 49.99 and were 26.99 Happy mum here!

NemoRocksMyWorld · 17/08/2018 19:33

I've bought my three shoes from m and s. They still measure them (although not width) and they last really well. I have up on Clarks after three pairs rubbed blisters on my dd's feet!

Spanglybangles · 17/08/2018 19:34

DD 11 wore black leather converse last year and they lasted all year as her feet grow slowly. Have got her Vans all black this year and hoping they see her through the year, though will switch to boots for the winter months.

Trinpy · 17/08/2018 19:51

My ds's feet are very narrow so I'm stuck with Clark's. There's a really nice pair of school shoes I've seen in m&s that look hard wearing and I know he'd love them but if I take him to try them on then I will then have to deal with the upset when I have tell him he can't have them after all because they're too wide (he's 4).

Clutterbugsmum · 17/08/2018 21:10

YANBU,

Add to the fact that most girls shoes do not have proper soles on them so they are waffer thin and are walked through with in weeks.

reluctantbrit · 17/08/2018 21:20

We had Ricosta and Ecco for DD’s primary school years, either Velcro or laces. She needed very soft shoes, so Clarke’s and Start Rite are out. Ricosta is great but so soft, it scuffs fast so weekly polish with really good shoe polish is the norm. They only do full sizes, so they normally last a year.

She goes into Y7 now and we bought Geox loafers. The alternative were Primigi lace ups.

Celestia26 · 17/08/2018 22:35

Geox! My son wears Geox Savage and they last him all year.

SleepFreeZone · 17/08/2018 22:38

We do buy Clarks but I go into the shop and get him measured then find the cheapest style of shoe I can online as they’re all so bloody ugly. The pair of shoes I just bought cost in the region of £25 and last year they lasted the full school year.
