To feel awful about this

Was in a very big well known shop and saw some toys that DS loves really really cheap. I double checked that the sign referrred to the toys, it did so I bought some and took them to the till.
The toys went through at full price so I mentioned the sign saying they were reduced. The women on the till called a supervisor who went the check and came back saying the wrong label had been put on but they would honour the price shown. I thanked her and the women on the till put them through. When I had finished paying the women on the till hissed at me that the money would be taken from a member of staff wages.
I asked how they would go about choosing the member of staff who’s wages to deduct and she said “it will one of the delivery boys”
I just walked off at this point, if she had said something before the transaction went through I would have prob said to leave them. Feel guilty now that a member of staff my have their wages deducted

She's talking absolute shite

WorraLiberty · 16/08/2018 21:08

I think you should name the shop in that case

GinPink · 16/08/2018 21:09

She's talking BS

ScreamingValenta · 16/08/2018 21:09

It was unprofessional of the cashier to make this your problem. If that's the shop's policy, it's an awful one, but it's not the fault of the customer. They weren't obliged to honour the lower price - having shown good customer service by doing this, it's a shame the gesture was spoiled by the comment. But you have nothing to feel guilty about.

peachgreen · 16/08/2018 21:09

That is absolute nonsense.

OutPinked · 16/08/2018 21:10

She’s talking out of her arse.

BrieAndChilli · 16/08/2018 21:10

Why would it be taken from a delivery boys wages???? That’s really really weird! At a stretch I could see it being the person who sold them to you at that price (to deter people from reducing things for their friends) but to take it from someone’s wages that wasn’t even there?? There’s no way that would happen!!!

Raspberryberetthekindyoufind · 16/08/2018 21:13

Can I name the shop??? Or would that be wrong? It’s a large chain selling all sorts of things from toys, homewear, tolietries, pick and mix etc

Yeah she sounds thick.

Ruffian · 16/08/2018 21:24

how would that be legal? And what's a 'delivery boy' anyway?

Crwban · 16/08/2018 21:24

Name the shop OP.
and the branch but this will probably be pulled then

JurassicAdventure · 16/08/2018 21:25

I would speak to a manager about that, if that's the policy then it should be escalated to head office, if not (as I suspect!) the checkout person should be re-educated!

keepingbees · 16/08/2018 21:26

Wilko or b&m?

Sounds a load of rubbish, what would a delivery boy have to do with anything?
Either way it was wrong of her to try and make you feel guilty.

GinIsIn · 16/08/2018 21:26

Umm, no. That really isn’t how retail works.

NotTerfNorCis · 16/08/2018 21:28

It sounds like she made it up. Why a delivery boy? I think she invented that when you put her on the spot.

ChaseMe · 16/08/2018 21:28

Doesn't sound right to me, wages wouldn't be docked after honouring a ticket

ChipmunksAreMissing · 16/08/2018 21:29

No way would this happen! She is talking shite!!

sourpatchkid · 16/08/2018 21:29

She's lying - I worked in retail for years. I'd put in a complaint about the lying passive aggressive bitch if I were you

CaveyLass · 16/08/2018 21:35

Delivery boy? It’s not the 1930s

butterfly990 · 16/08/2018 21:36

If by docking the staff member's wage, assuming minimum or close too, they would be potentially in breach of paying below minimum wage and they would be liable to an employment tribunal action.

The shop in the first instance did not need to sell you the item when it was incorrectly labelled. www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/somethings-gone-wrong-with-a-purchase/if-something-is-advertised-at-the-wrong-price/

winterdeballesteros · 16/08/2018 21:36

It's not true, but why would she say that? Purely to make you feel bad, but it's no skin off her nose anyway. Don't think customer service is the right job for her.

1frenchfoodie · 16/08/2018 21:37

What @JurassicAdventure said - till person is in all likelihood talking through their bum but if they believe it, or if this is policy, it should be rectified. And what national shop chain has ‘delivery boys’, unless you were in a ‘50s timewarp..?

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 16/08/2018 21:40

Very odd indeed Hmm
