To worry that hoovering the bathroom is unhygienic

I have a guy painting my bathroom today and when I came back from the shops he was hoovering the floor where he'd been doing some sanding.

AIBU to feel a bit squeamish at the thought of hoovering my kitchen and the rest of the house with a hoover that's been used near where the toilet's been flushed?

For once really hope I get told I'm being daft.

Putting it crudely, your issue is to do with germs from your arse. Your arse sits on your couch, your bed, the floor and your contaminated clothes which have enveloped your arse, go into a washing basket and transported to the machine.

You are overthinking this. Too too much.

Topseyt · 16/08/2018 17:06

Errr, yes. You are being utterly daft.

Do you have a separate hoover for each room?

keyboardkate · 16/08/2018 17:09

Call in the hazmats quick!

Did he vacuum up any faeces or urine do you think?

I really thought I had heard and read everything until this.

arranfan · 16/08/2018 17:14

Unless you have a disinfectant walk through on the way to and from your bathroom then you already walk your bathroom's bacteria through your house. Usual alarmist marketing of the horrors of unwashed carpets etc. by the makers of carpet cleaners: Hygiene expert warns of health horrors hiding in our unwashed carpets

I have to confess, however, that we don't have carpeting and all of our floor surfaces are hard and washable. And, I clean the pipes of our vacuum cleaner and wash the permanent filters. But I live in an area of high pollution.

Happyhippy45 · 16/08/2018 17:14

@category12
So why do they have separate colour coded brushes too?

BlankTimes · 16/08/2018 17:16

If you're really bothered, you can wipe the wheels and the underneath of the hoover with some dettox or similar on a paper towel.
Not that I've ever done that oh no. Whistles whilst exiting stage left

SilverySurfer · 16/08/2018 17:17

Completely and utterly bonkers.

Tinkobell · 16/08/2018 17:21

Unless a blind person with dysentery had been using the loo, I wouldn't worry 😁

Giraffey1 · 16/08/2018 17:21

Of course, there are no germs anywhere else in the house, only the bathroom..... Sorry OP, I think you are being daft!

MedicinalGin · 16/08/2018 17:23

Oh my days- I wish this was all I had to worry about.

category12 · 16/08/2018 17:24

Happyhippy, Because brushes retain bits in the bristles and it's best practice to have completely different implements for those environments, where hygiene and avoiding cross-contamination are critical. At home, you don't need the same standards because it's a limited amount of people whereas commercial and hospital premises have a hugely different scale of risk.

kaytee87 · 16/08/2018 17:25

I always hoover the bathroom then mop it afterwards.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 16/08/2018 17:27

You need and upstairs hoover and a downstairs hoover like us.

Our is for lazy reasons though, as we can’t be bothered to carry a hoover around so had to have 2 Grin

So op is not really being that unreasonable if avoiding cross contamination is "critical" to her then? Grin

category12 · 16/08/2018 17:43

Yes she is being unreasonable cos her house isn't a commercial or hospital environment. As far as we know. Grin

See when you use the toilet do you have special bathroom shoes if not you are trailing your imaginary nasties about the house on your feet just a thought for you

The Japanese do. There will be sets of toilet slippers outside the bathroom. All houses are strictly shoes off with everyone wearing slippers.

Ethylred · 16/08/2018 18:52

Hoovering will be my special subject on Mastermind so
pay attention.

He was hoovering dust you utter loon which is exactly
what hoovers are designed to do.

PortiaCastis · 16/08/2018 18:53

Oh dear
You couldn't make it up

AinmDubh · 16/08/2018 18:59

I have to say Good for him for tidying up after himself. The last guy I had in doing work in the house left it in a terrible state 🙁

SuperFuckingGlue · 16/08/2018 19:05

I have an amazing solution to these worries - its called an Immune SystemGrin

Stop worrying.

longwayoff · 16/08/2018 19:10

Extra daft

userofthiswebsite · 16/08/2018 19:12

Hoover first, then mop.
