Title based on what a college professor used to tell us when the going got tough.

"Just remember when you're standing shoulder deep in horse shit, there's a pony in there somewhere. So just keep digging".

....an event....??

AcrossthePond55 · 17/08/2018 20:16

I wonder how Judge Speedy-move-it-along will like that?

TBH, most courts close at 4 or 5 pm anyway, so I'm actually surprised at the jury having to ask to end deliberations then. Actually a lot of courts where I live don't even 'sit' on Fridays at all.

So Scrotus isn't getting his parade? Boo fucking hoo! Let's give him a tin trumpet and a toy tank on a string and he can parade back and forth along the Truman Balcony for all to see. Arsehole!

Judge in Manafort trial says he has received threats and has Marshall Service protection. For that reason will not release names of jurors.

I was surprised Across. U.K. courts tend to finish at 4pm or earlier.

Lots of Twitter comments that the jury should be sequestered. An event also allows jurors to be 'infected' by casual comments from others.

AcrossthePond55 · 17/08/2018 21:16

I agree, in a case with this notoriety, let alone the Scrotus nutcases, the jury defo should have been sequestered.

I feel very, very sorry that Trump isn’t getting his mighty parade. Not!

Threat made against Boston Globe after editorial condemning Trump
thehill.com/homenews/media/402237-threat-made-at-boston-globe-after-editorial-condemning-trump

A threat was reported at The Boston Globe on Thursday, the same day the newspaper spearheaded a campaign to publish coordinated editorials at multiple papers condemning President Trump's attacks against the press.

Officials from the Boston police told Boston 7 News that they do not believe the threat was "super serious" but that they have increased patrols around the building.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 18/08/2018 08:59

Manafort trial possibilities:

a) Judge and jury are being threatened
b) Judge is saying he's threatened and jury might be threatened to get a mistrial
c) Judge is saying he's being threatened to get a mistrial because judge is being threatened

What we want: None of the above.

Imagine.... Confused

Imagine the President’s former campaign chairman is on trial for various felonies. Imagine the jury is in middle of deliberations. Imagine the President publicly calls the case unfair & praises the defendant

There was a time when that kind of thing was considered inappropriate https://twitter.com/TheLeadCNN/status/1030566298432880640/video/1

I haven't watched Maddow's interview with John Brennan but

.oops!

... A majority-black county in Georgia plans to shutter 7 of 9 polling locations for the November elections. This is the kind of voter suppression technique that the Supreme Court greenlighted when it gutted the Voting Rights Act. www.nytimes.com/aponline/2018/08/15/us/ap-us-polling-places-proposed-closures.html

Whenever I read about Obama I want to weep at everything that has been lost and revealed. He seems more stoical about the arc of history and progress not being a straight line. But still ... Smile

Dear Mr President: Obama on how letters from the American people shaped his time in office — interview
https://www.theguardian.com/books/ng-interactive/2018/aug/18/barack-obama-reveals-how-letters-from-the-american-people-shaped-his-presidency-interview?CMP=ShareiOSAppp_Other

Certainly what I learned during the presidency was that the office of the president itself carries enormous weight,” Obama went on. “And, sadly, probably where I learned that best was in moments of tragedy where you’d visit with grieving families. Sometimes they were in places where – I think it’s fair to say – I didn’t get a whole lot of votes. You know, after a tornado or a flood or a shooting. And what was clear was that my presence there signified to those families that they were important. Their loved ones were important. The grief they were feeling was important. That it had been seen and acknowledged.”
That notion of being heard,” I said. “It seemed to be embedded throughout all of this.”
I still believe it,” he said. “I think this whole letter-writing process and its importance reflected a more fundamental vision of what we were trying to do in the campaign and what I was trying to do with the presidency and my political philosophy. The foundational theory, it probably connects to my early days organising. Just going around and listening to people. Asking them about their lives, and what was important to them. And how did they come to believe what they believe? And what are they trying to pass on to their children?”
