Or knows anyone who would be?

Great grandmother's dresses. Some of them went to a museum. The rest are not museum quality but still of interest. I'm looking for a good home. Can supply pics.

Tia.

They're stunning OP, I'd be really interested in the light green one (far right pic)

What looks to be a teal colour, beautiful material. Have you got any photos of your great gran wearing them at all?

SchrodingersMeowth · 14/08/2018 16:43

Black!!! I’m stunned. Currently showing DP, I’m sure he cares Grin

Orlandointhewilderness · 14/08/2018 16:44

I'm a dressmaker, interested in historical clothing, esp women's. I would absolutely love these if you still need a good home!

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 14/08/2018 16:44

Are there any makers' labels?

landgirl1 · 14/08/2018 16:44

I would be very interested in the dark green far left in first pic. Happy to make a donation to charity on your behalf & would need to pay you to post :)

TheLittleThingsLikeVodka · 14/08/2018 16:44

They’re amazing!

AwkwardAsAllGetout · 14/08/2018 16:44

OP you really should eBay them! The pictures you have are enough to get buyers interested, you could donate the money to charity if you’d rather.

JaceLancs · 14/08/2018 16:45

I would love them too - look like they might fit my size 6-8 DD! Any local amateur dramatic groups who would be grateful for them
I’ve recently been clearing out house of an elderly deceased relative and along with the junk found all sorts of things that with a bit of research I found grateful homes for

3luckystars · 14/08/2018 16:46

Why are you giving them away???

They are absolutely beautiful!!

That green one in the first photo is the most beautiful dress I have ever seen!

You can’t give them away!!!

NinonDeLenclos · 14/08/2018 16:47

I've got a photograph of her but not wearing them.

The green two piece and the brown bodice are mid century - so they may be her aunt's. The black and the aqua are 1880s/90s ish - are definitely hers (and a bit creepy!)

Maybe donate them to places like beamish museum? "Live action" museums. I'm sure there are similar elsewhere in the country.

Beautiful dresses 😍

SchrodingersMeowth · 14/08/2018 16:52

I don’t think they’re creepy! Very classic Victorian mourning era style and beautiful!

3luckystars · 14/08/2018 16:52

I’d love the green one! I keep thinking about it. Would you sell it to me?

NinonDeLenclos · 14/08/2018 16:52

I don't have the time to put them on ebay - I sell stuff on there and I know the faff involved. Plus I really need to get rid of them asap as it's part of a clearout. I just want them to go somewhere they will be loved.

I suggest everyone who's interested PM me with a note about yourself, your preferred dress, and intended use (if possible I'd rather they weren't used for costumes because they will deteriorate) and I will put everyone in a lucky dip.

They're at my parents house in London so anyone who can do a local pickup put that in your PM.

Contact Blists Hill living village museum, part of Ironbridge Gorge Museums in Shropshire. They’d absolutely love them

NinonDeLenclos · 14/08/2018 16:54

Thanks for the suggestion of museums. The best ones went to museums. These are the leftovers!

They are amazing! I love the 3rd one, but I would struggle getting into it a size 6. It would make a good wedding dress.

An AmDram would love them!

LostinLSpace · 14/08/2018 17:01

Just to say beautiful dresses! How kind of you to give them away!

I'd love one but I wouldn't have any idea what to do with it other than take it out regularly and look at it BlushGrin I reckon I'd fit in them being a bit of a shorty and on the slim side but think DH may be a bit Hmm if I wandered our (short) hallway in it of an afternoon Grin

Not creepy at all, gorgeous!

TressiliansStone · 14/08/2018 17:04

Oh my goodness, the brown bodice! I'm sure one of our family photos has someone wearing a very similar style. It's amazing to see this in colour.

NoTeaNoShadeNoPinkLemonade · 14/08/2018 17:09

OP they ate stunning! How much would you want for the quilted black and the teal please i would be interested

NinonDeLenclos · 14/08/2018 17:11

Thanks for the further museum details. I just don't have any more time to drive around the country for museums to see them. I've already done Bath, Devon, Cambridge, Leicester etc.
