To expect more privacy at the GPs

I was recently prescribed pregabaline by my psychiatrist.

I went to the GP today to see if the prescription had arrived.

Busy but very quiet waiting room. I asked the receptionist if she had a prescription for me to pick up. She asked what it was for and I lent over and whispered to her pregabaline.

She looks at her screen and says in a loud voice “no the only scripts I have on my screen for you are Sertraline and diazepam”

AIBU to think there was no need for her to read those out in front of everyone? She could have just said no I don’t have it here?

I can't stand this I was in the gp and asked the receptionist is my 'swab' results had come back.

She checked and said yes your 'vaginal swab' came back normal. Really there was only one swab down so no need to embarrass me by saying the full title. I felt like she done it on purpose to embarrass me

No need for this, receptionists should be more tactful.

I was waiting for an anomaly scan and the receptionist rather than giving me the information form to fill in read it out to me and filled it out for me. In the middle of the waiting room, using a normal voice she asked me if I had ever had problems conceiving, had miscarriages, terminations or IVF!!!

I just remembered a sexual health clinic I went to once had a bit of paper on the reception desk and you pointed to what you are there for. Obviously the options there are more limited but it's a good idea.

I've had this too at the doctors;

Me: Hello, my name is morningperson and I have an appointment with the nurse at 11.30 am

Reception: What's it for?

Me: (bloody told them this when i booked the appointment) A depo (quiet voice!).

Reception: Sorry?

Me: Depo (slightly gritted teeth!)

Reception: A DEPO INJECTION, THANK YOU!!!

Bastards!!

I mean I know its only contraception but that isnt the point, they could definitely be a little more discreet!

I've witnessed similar behaviour at a sexual health clinic I went to about 5 years ago. I was there to have my Mirena IUS changed and had an appointment, but they were also holding a walk-in clinic session at the same time. If you didn't have an appointment, you had to report to the receptionist, and tell her why you were there. In front of a waiting room of about 15 people,I could hear her asking,in quite a loud vouce, their reason for being there, and I could also hear some of the patients telling her the reason why (wanted a blood test for HIV,wanted a pregnancy test),and they were all things that I really wouldn't have wanted a room full of strangers overhearing! I did think at the time that they should improve their privacy arrangements somewhat.
