Potato throwing mystery

AIBU to ask who is throwing potatoes at us ? For around 3 months my son, who lives half a mile away, has had potatoes thrown at his front window, always around 11pm. Never caught anyone at it. And the street is always empty. Now, for the first time, we have had one thrown at our front window last night. Is this a thing nowadays ? Tonight we wait up !

there's a weird phenomenon in London of a potato being placed on top of a bus shelter with skewers or similar stuck in it

Spudniks.

I didn't know they were still going.

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 14/08/2018 12:37

Is our OP mashed at 11.33 on a Tuesday morning?!

TittyFahLaEtcetera · 14/08/2018 12:38

Hope you get it sauteed, OP.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 14/08/2018 12:41

Perhaps you have a secret admirer and the potato throwing is an attempt at being croquetteish
Groan.
I have no Desire(e) to read any more puns....

IllHaveALargeGlassOfRed · 14/08/2018 12:42

Do you know what variety the are OP? Different varieties are better for different purposes. For instance a Mayan Gold isn't going to give a good through and a Lady Balfour is a bit round. I think a Maris Piper, a nice good multi purpose spud, is your best bet.

IllHaveALargeGlassOfRed · 14/08/2018 12:44

Through = throw

UsedBySomebodyAlready · 14/08/2018 12:47

I won't waffle on about it but I hope you get to the root of the issue OP

ApolloandDaphne · 14/08/2018 12:47

You need to chip away at this to find out who is responsible.

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 14/08/2018 12:51

Are you Irish, OP?!

Seafoodeatit · 14/08/2018 12:51

I thought your opening post said potato throwing misery, I thought you were stuck in a tedious potato throwing event you couldn't get out of!

Someone with a chip on their shoulder is clearly out to harrass you.

In all honesty though, I hope this isn't real they could break a window..

Riotgrrrrrl · 14/08/2018 12:51

My husband threw a chip at a cat that was on our fence and ready to pounce on a blackbird. The chip went further than intended and flew over the car into next doors garden Blush

(I hope the OP means actual potatoes and not chips...)

VelociraptorRex · 14/08/2018 12:52

@callkiki that is utter genius! Files away for future use with neighbour from hell

I have no puns, I'm disappointed in myself, sorry...

frogface69 · 14/08/2018 12:54

Poltergeist, I reckon.
Just another half baked theory

TheSoapyFrog · 14/08/2018 12:57

There is someone who is throwing potatoes at passerbys from the window of their flat. Maybe it is a thing people are doing now.

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 14/08/2018 13:01

If life gives you potatoes, make chips.

Mia184 · 14/08/2018 13:02

That must be terrifrying

Skittlesandbeer · 14/08/2018 13:04

This veggie throwing nonsense would really be gratin on my nerves by the second night...

But I must say this thread has some real gems in it!

Paddley · 14/08/2018 13:05

I'd be worried they might make a hash of it and smash the windows.

Paddley · 14/08/2018 13:06

Could it be a relation perhaps? Aunt Bessie?

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 14/08/2018 13:07

I wonder if the OP has heard any rumblings that she has upset her neighbours?

MyDirtyLittleSecret · 14/08/2018 13:08

Spudn't you log it with the peelers, OP?

ToadOfSadness · 14/08/2018 13:10

They could (col)cannon straight through the glass!!

TooTrueToBeGood · 14/08/2018 13:10

I think you need to call 101 and let the peelers deal with it.

DarlingNikita · 14/08/2018 13:11

Top marks for the historical 'peelers' puns Grin
