To be annoyed at friend despite the massive favour?

I recently bought a house which is my pride and joy.
It needed a bit of work and my friend who is very into gardening offered to do a few bits for me.
I gave him a key and he came round today and the garden looks great.
BUT the kitchen is a fucking tip, full of mud and grass, there were used teabags on the work surfaces and mugs not even out in the sink. Stuff has been moved about including my loft ladder?! And most annoyingly mud has been trod on to my fucking brand new week old carpet. Would I be unreasonable to message him saying thanks but... what the fuck!?

I'd be a little annoyed but overall thankful.

A teabag, a dirty mug and a little mud is hardly the end of the world.

I'm sure he needed a ladder for outside. If something more nefarious then he'd have surely replaced it to cover his tracks.

But when has gardening ever required a ladder unless he is pruning very tall trees?Confused

Op i would go in the loft today and check he hasn't taken anything or that he hasn't left anything...(e.g a tiny webcam to watch you dress, undress, sleep, have sex etc)

Ask him why he moved the ladder/what he needed the ladder for

FatCow2018 · 14/08/2018 05:03

did he lay turf?? if he did I imagine that is what he used the ladder for in lieu of a plank

you have to evenly distribute weight so thinking hw might have used it for this, or as a spirit level

Oh I’d be screwing over the carpet

That’s an autocorrect surely? The most likely being screaming.

How annoying.
We had a friend redo a bit of pebble dash on the outside of our house a while ago. He poured the cement mix down our back toilet Shock where it obviously hardened. I don't know what possessed him.

Gotthetshirt23 · 14/08/2018 06:50

Camera or CCTV ......

Anniegetyourgun · 14/08/2018 07:14

As you recognise, you can't really say anything about the mud or the teabags, but YANBU to be thinking it! Approach the loft ladder incident from "just to satisfy my curiosity, what did you use it for?" sort of angle (because it will niggle you to the end of your days if you don't find out). And yes, never leave him alone to do you a favour again. Watch the bugger like a hawk I mean, be there to make his tea for him Wink

Shock about the cement in toilet thing! Some people are experts in a very narrow skill set but just don't think outside it.

Nikephorus · 14/08/2018 08:04

I suspect he needed the ladder for reaching something in the garden, rather than poking around in your loft. Otherwise the ladder would still be in your room.
This! Why does everyone immediately assume the most unrealistic worst? Hmm

Has he installed camera/cctv when he went in loft?? 🤔
