Aibu to be worried about my 5yo dad having hairy legs?

She has very blonde (gold even!) but very thick hairy legs. I just don’t get it. I’m not a hairy person at all (I maybe shave my legs once a month when they get prickly? I have no visible arm hair) so I find it worrying. Is it something to worry about or can it be normal?

Babies are born with fine hair on their bodies, it is normal.

isthistoonosy · 13/08/2018 21:25

Yh our normally really noticibly hairy 3 and 4 yr olds who are mixed race but quite light skinned, with mid brown hair are looking not hairy at all this summer because they are super tanned and generally quite dirty from playing out.

Don't worry unless things still seem different in the winter,

ImAIdoot · 13/08/2018 21:25

Children’s bodies are perfect the way they are.

Absolutely right!

I feel that in these times this should be on billboards or something, good to see people pointing it out.

showgirl · 13/08/2018 21:26

We all have hair it's normal!

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 13/08/2018 21:31

I was looking the other day at my DD’s legs (she’s 7) and thought how beautiful they were and then I thought it’ll be so sad when she thinks she has to remove her hair one day (most likely for a bloke).

Most of her friends have it and no one comments on it - I guess another child can only think to tease someone about their leg hair if they heard it at home first!

PopGoesTheWeaz · 13/08/2018 21:33

I'm like you op, not much leg or arm hair so I sort of get where you are coming from. Rest of my family is like me, DH's as well (though I haven't inspected!)

I think you are asking if you should be worried from a "is this crazy early signs of puberty or hormones gone wild?" place? In which case, I wouldn't worry about it. (If it was from a looks point of view, then no, as someone else said, all children's bodies are perfect. TBH, I think more grown ups should embrace this too!)

GandTthankyou · 13/08/2018 21:33

Thanks and also damn you autocorrect!!

I guess I am worried about her being picked on like others have said. She is so awesome girl and she is perfect and has literally no self awareness which I’m so happy about as I was always conscious from a young age of weight and appearance etc (I danced to a high level) and am still now.
I don’t know about you guys tho but when my kid is picked on I feel it for them!

No, we absolutely don’t give a shit when out children are picked on.

Believeitornot · 13/08/2018 21:37

Yabu

Just because you shave twice a month, doesn’t mean that’s the norm.

My 6 year old dd has hair on her legs which is quite dark. But she’s 6 and I don’t give a shit and neither should she. That may change as she grows up.

Flaskfan · 13/08/2018 21:39

Don't we grow more hair in the sun aa a kind of protection? My 2 are v hairy at the moment. I think it's quite sweet.

Tomatoesrock · 13/08/2018 21:44

My DD aged 9 is quite hairy, blonde but hairy. I rarely have to shave either I am very fair with slight growth but I remember shaving my arms wrist to elbow around 9yo, So I was a fluffy child. Wearing jeans and leggings as you get older reduces hair too. I would not worry unless there are other issues.

Mari50 · 13/08/2018 21:48

My dd is really hairy legs- so do all her little friends. It’s normal.

Mari50 · 13/08/2018 21:48

TheBigFatMermaid · 13/08/2018 21:53

My DD is ginger and until recently was very hairy all over. In secret me and DP would call her our little orangutan. She also has a very distinctive raised birth mark that is quite visible.

She is nearly 13 and not so hairy on her body any more but the birth mark is still there. She has never had any nasty comments about either.

EyeDrops · 13/08/2018 22:00

My 3yo has hairy legs (and back)! It's fair at least (for now) - I have lots of thick dark hair, so not too surprising. I am very consciously not mentioning it in front of her or making a thing of it, I'd hate her to feel conscious about it when she should just be enjoying childhood.

My dd is mega hairy. Her legs arms neck shoulders. She’s a total cutie though. So confident with a lovely personality. I won’t ever mention it to her. Unless she does. Then I will be getting her laser hair removal Grin.

SoyDora · 14/08/2018 10:52

I don’t know about you guys tho but when my kid is picked on I feel it for them!

Nah, I couldn’t care less Hmm.
The quickest way to make your child self conscious and to have body hang ups is to make a big deal about perfectly normal things like hair on her legs.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 14/08/2018 10:55

jesus DS is the same, hairy legs and back - takes after DP Grin

usernotfound0000 · 14/08/2018 10:57

3 year old DD has very hairy legs but it is very fair. It is normal and I just hope she doesn't get picked on but I think most children have hairy legs.

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 14/08/2018 10:57

My dd is really hairy and was from a very young age. Totally normal for us humans, it's this obsession with de-hairing the entire body apart from our heads that isn't normal.

MrsMarigold · 14/08/2018 11:03

I'm fair but very hairy, shave my legs daily otherwise the bristles shine in the sun and have done for over 30 years. As a child I remember my hairy legs shining in the sun too, my five year old DD is the same as me but I think it's very cute. DS aged 7 is very silky and almost hairless. Don't worry about it.

SillySallySingsSongs · 14/08/2018 11:07

I don’t know about you guys tho but when my kid is picked on I feel it for them!

Nah don't give a dahm when DSC/DC are picked on. Hmm What a ridiculous statement.

The only person mentioning it is you. No one has picked on your DD.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 14/08/2018 11:08

EnglishGirl but if yours is a DS that’s OK then - It’s only a problem when it’s a DD, you understand... Think it means that those 5 year olds might not be sexy enough or summat
