To hate how people are so fucking gullible

Bimgy85 · 12/08/2018 16:14

Just that really. I have one friend who is beginning to annoy me with their 'idea ' of things. They see someone who owns a business 'ooh they must be millionaires' someone has a new car so they're 'rich'

Aibu to think these things don't make anyone rich :S that experiences and life is different for anybody and these things aren't black and white

You sound like someone fun to have a pint with

PaulRuddislush · 12/08/2018 16:15

I don't think that's people in general, just your "friend".

araiwa · 12/08/2018 16:16

Your use of 'gullible' IBU

TerfsUp · 12/08/2018 16:18

That's not what gullible means, OP.

TeaAndNoSympathy · 12/08/2018 16:18

I don’t think you understand what gullible means.

Fucketbucket13 · 12/08/2018 16:19

I used to think like this years ago until I went to be a nanny in London for a 'rich' family. One day they were driving a brand new Bentley, the following day they were declared bankrupt & I was unemployed.

I know a millionaire who drives an old banger.

Bimgy85 · 12/08/2018 16:20

Sorry ladies couldnt think of the correct word GrinNaive would be much better!

OP posts:
GreatDuckCookery6211 · 12/08/2018 16:20

They might be millionaires though, they might be rich. It's beyond the realms of possibility is it?

Bimgy85 · 12/08/2018 16:21

@Fucketbucket13 exactly my point! But my friend seems to be fairly close minded that if he sees someone with a nice car or their own business they must be 'millionaires' Hmm it's really annoying and very child like... exactly that - you could live in a tiny house and drive a 20 year old car and still be a millionaire

OP posts:
Bimgy85 · 12/08/2018 16:22

@GreatDuckCookery that's not the point of this Smile it's the assuming....

OP posts:
Baumederose · 12/08/2018 16:23

So your question is

Why do people make assumptions?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 12/08/2018 16:24

Oh who fucking cares Grin
It's not exactly hurting you is it?

araiwa · 12/08/2018 16:28

If i saw someone driving a brand new £150k car, i would expect them to be rich and probably a millionaire.

Am i gullible too?

Bimgy85 · 12/08/2018 16:29

@GreatDuckCookery clearly me babe? Grin

Probably don't own the car but on hp.

InspectorIkmen · 12/08/2018 16:35

Quite so Duchess. I'd rather someone believed in fairies and rich people sitting on millions than share intimate details with a complete stranger who's only asking for the wank!

Flightbite · 12/08/2018 16:37

They've taken the word gullible out of the dictionary did you know?

BigPinkBall · 12/08/2018 16:40

I’m constantly surprised by how easily people are taken in by someone because they’re friendly, when I can see straight through them, like when I was in the park with a friend and our two newborns and a man came up and started chatting, and then tried to take photos of our babies and she was all ready to let him because “he was just being friendly” until I asked her what exactly she thought a middle aged man would want with a picture of two babies he doesn’t know.

Bombardier25966 · 12/08/2018 16:41

"Rich" is subjective, your view might not be the same as your friend, that doesn't make either of you wrong or naive.

None of this would bother me, let alone "hate".

Although I do get irrational about people with a limited vocabulary ...

Tinkobell · 12/08/2018 16:41

There are talkers and there are doers OP......talkers just dream and wonder, doers talk less and crack on. That's how they get the big cars.

FlatPackFurnitureCompAnyone · 12/08/2018 16:43

Oh God I know, my heart sinks when I see a post about what size/type of bra your teen daughter wears or what underwear for small girls Sad

Bimgy85 · 12/08/2018 16:45

@Bombardier25966 limited vocabulary? Assuming I do because I put the incorrect word in the title?! Grin nice one ....

OP posts:
NotTheFordType · 12/08/2018 16:49

I think perhaps OP the word (or rather phrase) you're looking for is "small minded".

There are people - lots of them apparently - who rather than think for themselves, simply repeat things they were told at school, by their parents, by their newspaper, by Facebook.

I used to have someone in my life like this. Every conversation with her would include her saying "And did you know... THEY blah blah blah" I would then respond in a logical and scientific way, for example asking her HOW exactly evil criminal masterminds were controlling me via my Tesco clubcard. Then she would bluster, be unable to explain her position, and finally snap "You really over think things sometimes! You should just accept what you're told, it's less work."

She is no longer in my life and I'm happier for it Grin

Bombardier25966 · 12/08/2018 16:55

No, assuming you have (not do) because you use "hate" to express mild dislike. That, plus your continued errors are strongly indicative of a limited vocabulary.

It's not nice when people make judgements about you for pointless reasons, is it?
