So there is a thread about TV characters and it got me thinking. So AIBU to ask what movie really makes you cry?
The Green Mile. The moment when Tom Hanks says "We love you. Can you feel that?"
Sad

In Pursuit of Happyness - when father and his young son become homeless and don't make it to the hostel in time. They end up sleeping on a public toilet bathroom floor. Heartbreaking that this is some peoples reality.

AngeloMysterioso · 12/08/2018 22:10

I watched About Time a few days after my Dad died of cancer. I didn’t know the plot and just thought it was a nice Richard Curtis comedy and might make me feel a bit better. Huge mistake.

Inside Out when Bing Bong dies
Seven Pounds
HP and the Half Blood Prince when they’re all lighting their wands for Dumbledore

Eden, lovely bones gardens of night, little princess , the secret garden

PartyCat · 12/08/2018 22:26

Life is Beautiful - I literally couldn't move out of my seat in the cinema for about 15 mins after the end as my body was so wracked with emotion - big, uncontrollable sobs and spasms!
All the Befores ... I even start to cry at the first guitar picks of Before Midnight, before anything even appears onscreen! All the hope, joy, despair, frustration of life.
45 Years - brilliant, so moving.

Jimdandy · 12/08/2018 22:36

Sophie’s Choice. It cuts me deep inside to hear the little girl screaming as the nazi takes her away.

Sidalee7 · 12/08/2018 22:37

Carlitos way - when she is dancing in the sunset to "you are so beautiful "
Beaches - every time
Lion - cried pretty much the whole way through
Steel Magnolias!
Gone with the Wind - when Melly dies

One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest

evilharpy · 12/08/2018 22:41

I haven't read all 17 pages but I'm sure this will have been mentioned somewhere already.

Up. Watched while struggling with infertility, it tore me into pieces and I will never watch it again.

DrFoxtrot · 12/08/2018 22:41

I agree Partycat regarding all the Befores although Before Midnight is my least favourite.

SJE29 · 12/08/2018 22:45

Anything based on a true story that shows pictures of the real people at the end Sad gets me every time!!

PartyCat · 12/08/2018 22:48

@DrFoxTrot - Yay! A fellow Before-er, I bloody love those films! Yes I know Before Midnight is a grower, and not everyone's cup of tea, but I find it really moving and hopeful that they will hang in there despite everything. All the messiness of life distilled into the roller-coaster argument at the end.

DrFoxtrot · 12/08/2018 23:06

Partycat in the first film I cried at the feeling of urgency before the morning, that they knew they only had a few more hours together Sad. And in Before Sunset it was Céline’s outburst in the taxi about love, that how she felt about Jesse had ruined her ability to love again. I love the Before films so much.

Lovejoyfull · 13/08/2018 01:48

So many of these. I’m welling up just thinking about them.

  • Atonement - when she’s an old lady explaining what really happened.
  • Pans Labyrinth
  • The lives of others. Superb acting from the lead and then to make it worse he died soon after in real life.
  • The English Patient
  • Stand By Me
  • Bridge to Terabithia
BeyondRadicalisationPortal · 13/08/2018 08:34

Dickorydockwhatthe · 08/12/2018 01:32

FishFingersAndCustard11 · 08/12/2018 23:56
