AIBU?

I think that every post & responder should label themselves

Attention!

MN is so bloody subjective. It’s impossible to qualify / quantify the audience & responders to a post without some measurable criteria.

MN- I think you are deliberately ignoring this because it suits you.

How much more telling would it be if each poster could be categorised according to the following, as a minimum:

Age
Family income or Socio-economic group
U.K. location

I’m sure there are many other categories.

What do you reckon? Or does it suit MN to ignore this perspective?

Seriously? What relevance are my stats to how you would view my posts? They don't validate or invalidate them as a human is so much more than you are trying to pin us down to. Personally, I think favourite author would be more telling!

Age: 39
Sex: Female
Socio/Economic status: Working Class
Qualifications: A lot of letters after my name.
Politics: Green/Quaker
Geographical location: Scotland
Music: Swing Jazz
Pets: 6
Favourite Author(s): Barbara Kingsolver/Jodi Taylor

View on funeral payments: complex.

Ah so if someone has a good degree, is middle class and earns the same or more than you then you can listen to their opinion. But if someone is less than you (in your opinion) you can just ignore them and stay in your lovely middle class bubble?
I quite like it. AIBU - to ask all pretentious mumsnetters, aged over 35 who earn more than 40k, with brown hair to not respond to this.

So you're prejudiced and judgemental, and you want to know whose responses will echo your own bias and avoid you having to read any different viewpoints? Scared of being challenged and possibly having to re-think your attitudes?

Actually OP I think it is a great idea and would like to go further and suggest MN colour code posters on the basis of their stats. That way I’d know which posts I can just skip over in a very long thread. In addition we could have flag and star symbols for posters with exemplary credentials.

I assume the OP must be joking? Confused

You want to know someones personal background before you decide whether their opinion is valid or not?

Fucking hell.

Not your business. I do think it would be useful to know how long a person has been a member and how many posts someone has previously made. It would go a long way to stopping trolls.

This thread has reminded me of the good old AOL chat room days - asl?

Age: Wrong side of 40

Socio/economic status: About to be broke after funeral payment

Does that make my opinions any less valid?

This reminds me of a thread earlier in the year about how MN was meaningless and not influential as its users are, by definition, all just Mums. Now, we know this as wrong on many levels, and I certainly wouldn’t want to see further wrongful classification occurring.

BTW, if you really want to see a bit more information about a user, you can click on their profile. Sometimes they even fill them in!

Oh hang on, I've just remembered what this reminds me of. A/S/L in the chatrooms of old. Which nobody was ever honest about and just meant if you were female you got sent dick pics

OMG yes! ASL. Those were the days...

13/F/Devon (back in the AOL days) 34/F/Oxford and a lot grumpier now

@bbcessex what's your definition of a "high income"? It's rather subjective, no?

This wouldn’t work though would it?
Because I could tell you anything I wanted?
What are my supposed to do? Ask for your payslips and birth cert on signup?
I am in my twenties in a low skilled job despite having a professional qualification and previously working in my field and I live in the west country but I could easily tell you I’m forty five, earnig six figures and livinmg with my posh husband Hugo in Richmond?
How do you expect it roc work

bbcessex Don't quite know where to start with this one!
You're totally missing one of the best things about mn, OP!
Surely everyone being anonymous and there being such a mixed bag of experience, ages & opinions on here and having the opportunity to pick the brains of people, you'd never meet in a million years in RL is sort of the point? ConfusedHmm

If you only want to hear the views of people who are basically just like you and want to be able to disregard advice from people who are not just like you why not come off mn altogether, and just chat through your issues with your friends?

Age - would that be mentally, physically or biologically? They differ wildly.
Family income - enough for my needs, less than my mother would want me to earn
Location - in a galaxy far, far away
