The "C" swear word

whathappenedtherethen · 08/08/2018 22:11

Following on from my first ever post 🙈. I know I'm now going to get it. But... is the c word acceptable in everyday conversation? Ive read posts where it's just everyday language to some which I find bizarre. We're all adults but...thoughts please. Btw I'm waiting for the c rhyme/jingle/song.

OP posts:
ManyCrisps · 08/08/2018 22:13

Yes it is you cunt.

Mum2jenny · 08/08/2018 22:15

I think it depends on where you work, and possibly who you work with whether the C word is acceptable. I use it very rarely and virtually never at work.

Keeoe · 08/08/2018 22:16

Do you mean 'cunt'? Yes it is. As you point out, we're all adults...

InspectorIkmen · 08/08/2018 22:16

Well - you know - as adults I think we are able to use it when applicable and refrain when it is not.
So "Good Morning Cunt" to the Vicar - not good

"You're a fucking cunt" to, say, Boris Johnson - very good

Pick your moment - as with all things.

HelpmeobiMN · 08/08/2018 22:16

Very common in Scotland, where it is generally employed as a term of affection Grin

FrankiesKnuckle · 08/08/2018 22:16

It used to have such an impact but I think it's lost its edge.
I love it.
Succinct and to the point.

It's probably the most used swear word where I work (and we are professionals)

AndersArms · 08/08/2018 22:16

ManyCrisps that made me laugh out loud

ScreamingValenta · 08/08/2018 22:17

Impossible to give a blanket ruling. It might be fine amongst some social groups and beyond the pale in others.

It seems generally accepted on MN.

anothernameagain000 · 08/08/2018 22:17

Though I have no issue with it (and find people that do a bit prissy) IRL I must admit that if someone uses the adjective cunting in a regular basis a bit much 😂

AppleKatie · 08/08/2018 22:19

Like all words it depends entirely on context.

Everyday conversation with my mum? Nope.

Everyday conversation with a teen at work? Obviously nope.

Everyday conversation with a group of mates at the pub? Depends on the mates could be.

Or look at it in terms of mumsnet threads:

Lighthearted or jokey thread - in jest, yes.

Goady thread like this- to make a humorous but biting point- yes (see first comment)

Serious thread where distraught mum comes on to talk about recent berement or some such very serious subject- of course not.

It is after all just a word and we are all a product of social conditioning.

Or, cunt. You know whatever.

c3pu · 08/08/2018 22:19

I used to work with an old chap who called people he liked "queer cunt" as a term of endearment.

crispysausagerolls · 08/08/2018 22:19

It’s ridiculous that people will use other swear words but not cunt. Like really stupid. Words only have the power you give them.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 08/08/2018 22:20

Ah, is this going to be the semi annual "oh my word, the language on here" thread? It usually goes well.😏

Chalady · 08/08/2018 22:21

YABU

FYI - Twunt is a wee bit nicer

MinesaPinot · 08/08/2018 22:21

Considering I can swear like a trooper (trust me, you do not want to be sat behind me at the football...) the 'C' word is the one that I really stop short of using. I don't know why but there's just something in me that stops me using it.

My mate, on the other hand, uses it as a term of affection when talking to her DH.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 08/08/2018 22:23

I think it's despicable that it's this hideous 'last taboo' and yet all the twee little words for the male genitalia are perfectly acceptable and bantz.

CUNT CUNT CUNT CUNT CUNT

See, the world hasn't ended...

SilverySurfer · 08/08/2018 22:25

I'm not a fan of the word personally and never use it but it appears many do. It's for individuals to decide I guess.

Chalady · 08/08/2018 22:25

You obviously missed the memo dont know how MN advertise themselves on Twitter -

Mumsnet@MumsnetTowers

Oh you know, that website, for parents. No, not that one, the other one. With the biscuits. And the swearing

Thats us Halo

NotUmbongoUnchained · 08/08/2018 22:25

My husband and I call each other variations of it at least 5 times a day!

longwayoff · 08/08/2018 22:27

Excellent form of address to Godfrey Bloom MEP, ukip

ManyCrisps · 08/08/2018 22:27

AndersArms I was the first reply I couldn’t resist doing it.

ThomasinaMouse · 08/08/2018 22:28

It's a word. It amuses me for the mere fact its apparenty so shocking. I wouldnt use it in every day conversation, but if Im with close friends I like to shock (yes Im childish sometimes..)

Maidsrus · 08/08/2018 22:33

I would never use it. I think people round me would find it really offensive.

Prefer not to use female genatalia as derogatory terms, always always use male Grin

nicebitofquiche · 08/08/2018 22:35

No I hate it and I automatically dislike anyone who uses it. None of my friends say it.
