The "C" swear word

whathappenedtherethen · 08/08/2018 22:11

Following on from my first ever post 🙈. I know I'm now going to get it. But... is the c word acceptable in everyday conversation? Ive read posts where it's just everyday language to some which I find bizarre. We're all adults but...thoughts please. Btw I'm waiting for the c rhyme/jingle/song.

I've never liked the word, I find it very offensive. An acquaintance called her 2 yr old dd that and I was shocked and told her so. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I find it offensive particularly to use to insult children with. Says a lot about that woman tbh.

didyouseetheflaresinthesky · 08/08/2018 22:39

It's just a word. Words only have the weight we lend them. And sometimes people are cunts and only the word cunt will do.

Storm4star · 08/08/2018 22:40

I hate it too and never use it, I can’t really explain why, it just seems such a disgusting word to me. None of my friends or family use it either. Or if they do, they haven’t said it around me.

Maidsrus · 08/08/2018 22:40

In the god of small things arundhati Roy writes something like “[the twins] swam out of their lovely mother’s cunt”...

I prefer that sort of use. I find it offensive as a swear word and don’t hang around with anyone that would use it

zinger · 08/08/2018 22:42

It's mine and my husband's pet name for each other 😂😂

wheresyourheadatt · 08/08/2018 22:44

Cunt is used frequently in my vocabulary, recently more so due to stress.

You cunt Grin

whathappenedtherethen · 08/08/2018 22:46

To say it to a child imo is sooo wrong!! I honestly thought I was going to get a right bashing on this site. But, after reading many posts I thought I'd ask. I was/am ready for it though. I personally find it extremely offensive and crude. I do do say to those around me, if they use it "I hate that word!!" I'm not a prude,I swear all other words but draw the line at this particular one. As many others do depending who is around them, I presume in front of parents it's s no no... therefore it's regarded as vulgar??

OP posts:
Buffythevampireslayerr · 08/08/2018 22:47

If you say it a lot, you'll get desensitised and it won't offend you so much. Grin

I much prefer cunt to, say, moist. Or clunge. Confused

welshmist · 08/08/2018 22:48

I`m with maids about derogatory terms, mind you what would you use to be disparaging about a man am scratching my head here. I dont know any rude words for a mans appendage. Blush

mavydoes · 08/08/2018 22:49

West coast of Scotland here so pretty usual to be charmed by it if you do something daft lol.

NOT acceptable towards kids etc.

One of the outlander drivers was on holiday in America a few months ago and the backlash he got from telling 'every cunt' to meet him at a pub nearly could have him fired

Socially fine in our area but lethal In other.

Okaassan · 08/08/2018 22:50

The "professionally offended" seem to not like it. I don't tend to use it as it isn't part of my vocabulary ( due to seeing old lady's gasp in horror when that word reaches oxygen) but I wouldn't bat an eye lid if someone said it around me.

IAmInsignificunt · 08/08/2018 22:51

Yep.
Especially now old fashioned cunty women are being erased.

Buffythevampireslayerr · 08/08/2018 22:53

Really @welshmist ??

Dick, knob, ballbag, bellend, cock... To name a few.

Ooforfoxsakeridesagain · 08/08/2018 22:54

I’ve always liked Mumsnet because you can call a cunt a cunt on here. For example, Boris Johnson: massive atrocious thundercunt.

I like the word very much but would not use it as everyday language. I am offended when people swear as a matter of course, and in particular when in the earshot of children. ‘Fucking’ every other word loses its impact and it’s meaning, and is unnecessary.

I do love a bit of swearing where appropriate however.

welshmist · 08/08/2018 22:56

Buffy I have called someone a dickhead, but the others wouldn`t spring to mind as an insult.

BrownJenkins · 08/08/2018 23:01

I can't stand the word, nor the people who say it.

Oldaintallthat · 08/08/2018 23:01

Buffy has it, If I was called a clunge I would be Hmm
But, I do use it only when Im really really fucked off. And wouldnt have a bother saying it to their face.

StormcloakNord · 08/08/2018 23:08

Cunt is used extremely frequently in our house. Insults bandied about are sometimes 'shite cunt', 'arse cunt' and 'cunt chops'.

I say it around my 4yo DD (gasp). She knows not to repeat it though as it's a swear word.

CharltonLido73 · 08/08/2018 23:08

Not a word I would ever use. Too ingrained from my upbringing - my East End parents would swear like troopers but drew the line at the c word. To be honest it is only in recent years it seems to have become acceptable - at least where I live ( I can't comment on other parts of the country).

Nobody in my family or friends use this word - certainly not publicly. I cringe when I hear it used, to be honest.

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 08/08/2018 23:09

It's totally banned where I work.

I don't know anyone that uses it. I hate it.

BibiBlocksberg · 08/08/2018 23:10

A fine word...... unless you're in Canada of course....

m.youtube.com/watch?v=iwBR0qwHZBA

CantankerousCamel · 08/08/2018 23:15

Oldest word in the English language

I would prefer it still meant a blanket name for Vulva and vagina, plus a name for a flower

But I’m glad it’s sfill around, even as a swear word

NotAnotherNoughtiesTune · 08/08/2018 23:19

I write it on here but only use it in real life conversations if someone has really disgusted me
"That child abuser is a cunt and deserves to rot"
Or I'm teasing a friend who has a dark sense of humour
"Now Steve, stop being a cunt."
But it's not how I say hello to the postman.

JaneJeffer · 08/08/2018 23:19

Fairly common in Ireland. Niall Horan got in trouble with the press for using it to some fans at an airport after X Factor when he jokingly asked "where were you shower of cunts last year?" Grin

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 08/08/2018 23:22

I don't say it in RL and hardly ever ( if ever ) on MN. I don't mind others using it when it's appropriate. I do swear quite a bit in RL. More of fuck and bastard. Usually when I've stubbed my toe or at some twat of a driver that's pulled out or cut me up.
