To think I’ll get a refund/credit

Bought a blouse from a Wallis concession in Debenhams a couple of weeks ago. Fitted fine so threw receipt away (paid cash). Wore it today for first time so cut off tags and happened to keep them. Within 3 hours the blouse had developed 3 huge pulls down the front...looked awful. Was at work so had to wear it for rest of day. Can take it back tomorrow with tag and carrier bag but no proof of purchase. Assume it will still be in stock but they may not have my size. Happy to choose something else but not sure they will agree to it.What do you reckon my chances are?!

A blouse doesn't develop pulls, it means you have caught it on something. Some materials pull worse than others.

I doubt you would get a refund as its not a manufacturing fault

MrsGrindah · 07/08/2018 21:33

But to have caught it in 3 separate places all within about three hours is a bit bizarre? and I was just sat at my desk

You ifhr have caught it on your ring or nail. I agree it’s crap, I’ve bought blouses like that before and I have just given up on them.

ShumpaLumpa · 07/08/2018 21:37

Did you pay cash or card?

You can show transaction on card as proof of purchase.

But they may not need proof, they're pretty good with recognising this season's clothing and figuring out who is telling the truth.

MrsGrindah · 07/08/2018 21:37

How can I have caught it in three separate places though? All within the same time frame?

OP posts:
MrsGrindah · 07/08/2018 21:39

I paid cash. The on,y proof I have is I still have the tags but of course that doesn’t prove when I bought it ( or that I didn’t nick it!)

@MrsGrindah my desk at work always pulls my tops as i lean against it. Could have been keys/kewellery/seat belt/coat/handbag etc.

A manufacturing fault is normally a hole on a seam, if its off a seam its customer damage.

(I used to be a fashion retailer atore manager) and i would not have refunded or exchanged this item as damage has been caused by you

Nicknacky · 07/08/2018 21:40

Take it back and try, you have nothing to lose.

MrsGrindah · 07/08/2018 21:40

I know I’m on dodgy ground but I’m thinking a blouse so delicate surely isn’t fit for purpose?

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 07/08/2018 21:41

Well, it’s still wearable even with some pulls on it.

ShumpaLumpa · 07/08/2018 21:42

Definitely take it back! I have returned faulty stuff without a receipt.

NotMyCircusMonkeys · 07/08/2018 21:43

I once got a refund for a brand new pair of jeans that got attacked by the tumble dryer Blush so it's worth a try!

MrsGrindah · 07/08/2018 21:43

“ da mage has been caused by you” ... no proof of that either though. Goes down to balance of probabilities and goodwill I suppose. But I swear I literally sat down, logged onto my pc , worked for 3 hours ish and then noticed the damage as I stood up. No keys/ badge etc in the vicinity. I am genuinely puzzled

TruffleShuffles · 07/08/2018 21:44

As an ex fashion retail manager I would be very surprised if you get a refund or exchange. The item isn’t faulty, it’s been pulled by something. It’s obviously annoying but it’s not the manufacturers or shops fault. If it’s as you say a delicate blouse maybe it shouldn’t be worn for a long day at work but for an evening?

adaline · 07/08/2018 21:47

It depends on the shop - but you won't lose anything by trying!

Hellywelly10 · 07/08/2018 21:47

I think you have a good chance of getting an exchange at the current retail price of the top

MrsGrindah · 07/08/2018 21:48

Sorry I didn’t mean it was a delicate evening blouse...I meant it shouldn’t be so delicate it can’t handke 3 hours sat in a chair .

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 07/08/2018 21:48

But it doesn’t take much for some materials to be caught on rough edges on desks unfortunately

inquiquotiokixul · 07/08/2018 21:50

A single splinter or rough point that you lean against on the edge of your desk for 3 hours could well pull in 3 separate places as you shift position occasionally.

nervyuyt · 07/08/2018 21:50

There is no fault with the item. Some material is more susceptible to pulls etc.

MrsGrindah · 07/08/2018 21:50

Yes I will try and obviously I’m expecting a “ no” but I’m gutted that I’m out of pocket without any explanation. Honest,y if I had caught it I wouldn’t even think of returning it but the pattern of pulls is so bizarre

NellMangel · 07/08/2018 21:51

Take it back. I got full refund from house of Fraser cos a dress I wore to a wedding clicked all over on the first wear. It cost about £100 and I was really pissed off. I went in expecting to have to argue for a refund and she just instantly agreed it was crap. I didn't have receipt either.

In my case I caused the clicks but it was as a result of putting it on and then walking to taxi nothing excessive.

You never know, they might have had loads returned already.

Nicknacky · 07/08/2018 21:51

Can you try pull the thread back through?

londonrach · 07/08/2018 21:52

Try it but it be shop goodwell rather than legal on this as its your useage not the material by the sounds of it.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 07/08/2018 21:54

I think it really depends on who you speak to in store.

As an ‘empowered person’ I wouldn’t take any shitty excuse but would readily do an exchange to keep the peace.

Take off your work lanyard before you go in though Wink
