Bought a blouse from a Wallis concession in Debenhams a couple of weeks ago. Fitted fine so threw receipt away (paid cash). Wore it today for first time so cut off tags and happened to keep them. Within 3 hours the blouse had developed 3 huge pulls down the front...looked awful. Was at work so had to wear it for rest of day. Can take it back tomorrow with tag and carrier bag but no proof of purchase. Assume it will still be in stock but they may not have my size. Happy to choose something else but not sure they will agree to it.What do you reckon my chances are?!

It's worth trying I took a skirt back to a retailer, not the same one, as the fabric wore through, I'd had it for a few months. I returned it on the basis that it was not 'fit for purpose'. Do you remember if the blouse had a tag stating that it was delicate and to take care with jewellery etc? If it didn't have carry that kind of disclaimer it's worth a go, as something not being fit for purpose is a bona fide reason for returning. I got a full refund.

MrsGrindah · 07/08/2018 21:57

Don’t want to try pulling threads through in case I make it worse. There are three huge pulls with quite big gaps in between. As I stood up and noticed it a colleague said “ Oh yes , what’s happened.,” so it’s very noticeable. Cannot possibly wear it. Will try as I suppose there’s nothing to lose. Just annoyed that I’ve worn it fir three hours and it’s ruined and I can’t explain why!

dudsville · 07/08/2018 21:59

The thing is that if the top sat still unmoving for the hours it would not have suddenly burst to life and spontaneously developed pulls. You were wearing it and somehow in a way unknown to you pulls developed. I can understand being disappointed.

MrsGrindah · 07/08/2018 21:59

DottieNo it definitely didn’t have any warnings on it...I have all the tags. Surely no blouse is designed to last only three hours though.

MrsGrindah · 07/08/2018 22:02

dudsvilleI agree but my argument will be in what way is it for purpose if it can’t withstand someone sitting in a chair for 3 hours ( although of course I can’t prove this.,)

Take it back and see what happens, if Debenhams won't deal with it contact Wallis Customer Service directly.

LemonysSnicket · 07/08/2018 22:07

I got credit after I worse a dres and washed it and it ripped where all the buttons were. Regular 30c cycle. No receipt.

SavannahSky · 07/08/2018 22:08

I'm a retail manager and it would be a no unless you got me on side

If you go in from the angle ' look I know I've got no rights here ( paid cash, no receipt, possibly caused damage myself) but I was just wondering if there had been a recall or other customers had found problems with this? '

I'd change it for you

MrsGrindah · 07/08/2018 22:11

Thanks SavannahGenuinely not trying to get something for nothing, just want a nice blouse!

This has nothing to do with sitting in a chair for 3 hours, you’ve pulled it on something, probably something on the desk, pulls don’t spontaniously appear. You can cause a pull or 3 after 1 minutes wear or 100 hours. By insisting otherwise you just sound like you are pulling a fast one. They may offer credit as a good will gesture but I think that’s less likely if you aren’t prepared to be reasonable and accept you have damaged the fabric. If it is extremelt delicate they may accept your complaint and credit you.

Touchmybum · 07/08/2018 22:20

They might give you another blouse?

If your desk has never damaged any of your other tops, then why this one?

MrsPreston11 · 07/08/2018 22:20

I agree that it’s worth a try.

And also that you’re going to catch more flies with honey here.

If you’re honest and friendly and say you’re puzzled as to why this is happened and if you’d been up against somewhere it could have been caught etc then you’d understand.

Also the “have other customers said anything” was good.

Maybe also check the other shirts of that style in store? Could be a fault. Especially check the others if they offer an exchange but I wouldn’t be inclined to get the same garment again. Sounds too fragile.

Everytimeref · 07/08/2018 22:21

If it's faulty then you have a right to return but Debenhams have a policy of only refunding last known price without a receipt. Hopefully they will have the same blouse for an exchange.

MrsGrindah · 07/08/2018 22:25

I’m not insisting anything. I’m just stating the known facts not all the possibilities. But I honestly don’t know how I could have pulled it in three separate places in such a short time. However I don’t have another plausible explanation either. I will not be demanding at all...it’s all up to them in the end

It’s a big fat nothing ( just in case anyone was holding their breath!)

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 08/08/2018 13:54

What did they say?

MsBagelLady · 08/08/2018 13:58

Photograph your receipts from now on? Then you have them if you need them without sorting through a clump of crumpled receipts. Shops accept photographed receipts.

MrsGrindah · 08/08/2018 14:41

Good idea re photos of receipts. They said it had been pulled..which I wasn’t disputing although I was perplexed as to how. I did say I didn’t think a blouse that wasn’t particularly flimsy should be unwearable after 3 hours but no joy. Ah well. Won’t buy Wallis synthetic shit again! Just annoyed at the waste of money.

MrsGrindah · 08/08/2018 14:42

I really liked it too

Complain to head office? They'll be more keen to help especially if you say you don't want your money back, just a replacement.

Justanotheruser01 · 08/08/2018 17:33

Debenhams can be awkward with concession items and no receipt because there's no proof it was purchased through them i had a problem with a coast item and they wouldn't do anything

MrsGrindah · 08/08/2018 17:34

I’ve binned it now.

OP posts:
sunshinewithabitofdrizzle · 08/08/2018 20:44

Is your desk wooden? I noticed something similar on my clothes recently and ran my hand along the edge of my desk to discover fine splinters had developed that had been catching on my tops and ruining them. I've now put sellotape along the whole edge of the desk to stop this happening again.
