Cleaner with or without uniform?

I'm in the process of starting a cleaning business, and I just wanted to ask those with cleaners, do your cleaners wear uniform?

No. She is self employed if that makes a difference.

BiteyShark · 07/08/2018 19:23

Yes but I use an agency.

Strongmummy · 07/08/2018 19:24

No and it would make me feel incredibly uncomfortable if she did! I’m not at home when she cleans and I don’t care what she wears as long as she’s comfortable and does a good job.

rainingcatsanddog · 07/08/2018 19:29

Having spotted my neighbours' cleaners, 1 has a branded car but no uniform, another has a normal car and company polo while the third has branded car and company polo.

PoisonousSmurf · 07/08/2018 19:30

I'm a self employed cleaner and find my own clients. I wear a tabard with my cleaning company name on it.
My theme is 'purple', so I have a sort of uniform, black trousers and purple top and then the tabard and in summer I wear black shorts.
Wearing a tabard stops my clothes being damaged by bleach and other 'nasties'.

Scribblegirl · 07/08/2018 19:32

I don’t care tbf. A good cleaner is worth their weight in gold, if they make my house look good I couldn’t give a shag what they’re wearing.

If anything, I have a minor bias against uniform, but that’s possibly due to being burned by agency cleaners in the past.

Excited0803 · 07/08/2018 19:33

No, she's self-employed. She usually wears jeans and a T-shirt. Cleaners can damage their own clothing though with bleaches or just the wear they get and constant washing, so if you provided on a regular basis some fresh plain T-shirts and robust stretchy trousers it might be appreciated, you'd have to ask your staff to find out.

Cleaningbusinessobssesion · 07/08/2018 19:34

Thanks for your replies, how much do you pay per hour?

@PoisonousSmurf how much do you charge? And how do you find your clients?

I'm in London, and I've thought of charging £12.50 an hour.

OP posts:
Lunde · 07/08/2018 19:34

What sort of uniform?

HelpmeobiMN · 07/08/2018 19:34

No, and I wouldn't expect it at all.

ReservoirDogs · 07/08/2018 19:36

£13 per hour Cambridge to self employed cleaner

PoisonousSmurf · 07/08/2018 19:37

@Cleaningbusinessobssesion, Hi, I'm in the North Bristol area and charge £10 an hour.
All my clients have mostly come from www.care.com

Loads of work out there :-)

Strongmummy · 07/08/2018 19:39

£12.50 per hour in central London is very good value I’d say. I’m in zone 4 and pay that.

peachnuts · 07/08/2018 19:42

Majorly underselling yourself there OP. I own a cleaning business and charge £13 and I’m in the North East! I’d of thought in central London it would be much more in honesty.

ShadyLady53 · 07/08/2018 19:43

Our cleaning lady is self employed and she wears a uniform. A nursing type tunic and leggings.

Personally, I don’t like it because I’m embarrassed I need a cleaner at my age and don’t want the neighbours seeing her uniform and knowing and thinking I’m lazy 😂🙈. But I totally understand that she likes to keep her normal clothes nice and not ruin them due to bleach etc.

Scribblegirl · 07/08/2018 19:44

Op if you’re south London please message :-)

Aaronburrsumbrellawasstolen · 07/08/2018 19:45

Yes. Black trousers polo shirt with company logo on it

Scribblegirl · 07/08/2018 19:45

Oh and in Z2 we were paying £15/h for 4hr a fortnight. We’re Z3/4 now.

Cleaningbusinessobssesion · 07/08/2018 19:49

@peachnuts really? The few cleaning businesses i know of in my area charge £10-13 an hour.

@Scribblegirl You made me really happy thinking I had my first client, but no I'm in East London, sorry Blush

BackforGood · 07/08/2018 19:53

No, but mine is self employed.
Midlands
£10ph

ChristinaMarlowe · 07/08/2018 19:54

Ours just wears a tabbard over normal clothes - I think a uniform world make me feel awkward, she's a cleaner not a housemaid!

reluctantbrit · 07/08/2018 19:54

SE London/Kent border here. Most in my area pay around £13/hour, there is quite a lot of companies going so I assume that keeps the prices down a bit.

My cleaner works for an agency, so we pay her directly and the agency as well, a total is £13/hour. The agency provides the insurance and cover if required. I have to supply cleaning products which I prefer.

My cleaner doesn’t wear uniform but when she comes she adds a “bib” over her top to avoid stains.

We have a cleaning company opposite, they drive company vehicles, wear uniform and bring equipment and products. Even they are not that more expensive.

mindutopia · 07/08/2018 19:55

No and honestly it would put me off if they wore a uniform. Feels a bit too much like ‘staff’ and I wouldn’t feel comfortable with that as I like to have a relaxed relationship with anyone who works for us.

We paid £10 for someone who was self employed or £14 through an agency. We’re in the SW.

DilianaDilemma · 07/08/2018 19:56

'No' for the cleaner I have at home (agency).

Another 'no' for the cleaners who do my (very corporate - everyone else strictly in suits) workplace.

TBH, the only places I've ever seen uniformed cleaners were hospitals and hotels.

Rebecca36 · 07/08/2018 19:57

No uniform but usually wears some sort of tabard or overall of their own.
