She hasn’t invited my children to her daughter’s Christening

When I had my daughter christened 5 years ago, my best friend became one of her godmother’s.
She’s since had her first baby, and I’ve gone on to have my second child.
She’s having her daughter christened soon and has very kindly asked me to be godmother, but she has only invited my partner and I, not our children (my baby will only be 3 months old by then, and I don’t feel comfortable leaving him with anyone else yet).

AIBU to feel offended she doesn’t want my children there?! My daughter is her goddaughter after all.

My brother did this... not even nieces and nephews as he believed his elder child behaved better on his own than with a bunch of kids!!! He wanted to relax and drink expensive champagne. And I kid you not he moaned that when other kids were invited for the elder one’s Christening they had eaten things for packed lunches and he had to go shopping again!

But most christenings are group ones so your friends baby is unlikely to be the only child there! Hmm

It’s not a wedding for exclusivity.

Hmm the last 3 christenings I've been to, my DH had the kids outside in the vestibule for the actual service bit as they wouldn't sit still. And I took them out when he was being godfather.

But def would expect to be all together afterwards if there's a meal..

Most christenings are just excuses for a party nowadays aren’t they? I don’t know of any godparents that take their godchildren to church, neither do the parents.. ime anyway.

I don’t really understand the point of them.

Could it be more of a cost issue for the celebration after the christening and she can't afford to pay for children to attend?

cos a 3 month old will need several glasses of champagne and at least 3 cakes?
