To ask this daft question about aptamil when I'm three kids in??

OFuckShitAndBollocks · 06/08/2018 21:19

So dc3, also dd2, has shown uber disgust in trying new aptamil formula. She only has a bottle at bedtime so that dh can do her bedtime whilst I still do the 2 bigger ones. Going back to the boob would be a bit of a problem for them and I enjoy putting them to bed and having some special time together to chat and cuddle.

Anyway, what I was wondering was does anyone have any advice/solutions? I thought that being on my third I'd be able to solve this relatively simple issue by myself but I've just (a few hours ago) scraped out the last bit of powder from my last box and have only got a few bottles of ready made left.

AIBU to ask you wise mumsnetters? Help?!

Try a different brand?

NewYearNewMe18 · 06/08/2018 21:23

I assume 3 and 2 are their ages ? why are they on formula at that age ?

Bananacentral · 06/08/2018 21:24

I think the formula in the ready made is the same and hasn’t changed. Would imagine fairly expensive to use RM long term? Sorry I don’t have an answer for the powder change, maybe try a diff brand?

SilageMarner · 06/08/2018 21:25

I think she means third child, second daughter?

Can you express earlier in the day, OP, if you’re still breast feeding? Then your husband could give her a bottle of breast milk. Otherwise yep - different brand!

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 06/08/2018 21:25

I took it to mean 3rd child, 2nd daughter. Although I'm not sure why that'd be relevant so maybe I picked it up wrong!

I'd probably try a different formula. How old ia the baby?

OFuckShitAndBollocks · 06/08/2018 21:28

Sorry, yes to third child second daughter.

Is it as simple as just switching brands? I've clearly massively over complicated this in my head....thought she'd need as close as possible to the same one. I didn't think about just switching. O dear. I fear for my sanity. Thank you!!

Try a different formula or express? I’d maybe try expressing in the evening after you’ve put the other kids to bed while you’re eating dinner/watching tv. Or if baby is 12 months just use cows milk.

OFuckShitAndBollocks · 06/08/2018 21:29

She's 7 months

I've never done very well with expressing but can definitely give it another go.

I am passed the formula days, but I heard from a friend that Aldi formula has the same ingredients as the old aptimal so maybe worth a try.

GinUnicorn · 06/08/2018 21:32

I read somewhere aptimel changed the formula slightly and a lot of babies aren’t liking the new one. Experiment with a few brands and see which she likes. Also my little one still breastfeeds so when her dad gives her a bottle she is very fussy about temperature. She likes it quite warm. Maybe warming will help?

Loveluella · 06/08/2018 21:33

They're so regulated in terms of ingredients you should be able to switch fine. We moved from Aptamil to Aldi’s Mamia and it was fine, but know others who changed to Cow & gate with no issues

Queenofthestress · 06/08/2018 21:33

Formula is still baby's first source of nutrition until 1, why is she only having one bottle a day, she should be having about 20oz still?
Food until 1 is just for fun

Bottlepanic · 06/08/2018 21:34

Hopefully for your sake it will be that simple, OP - either try expressing if you have time, or buy some other brands and see how you get on. My older DC didn’t care whether it was breast or bottle; fridge or room temperature; breastmilk, formula or cow’s milk.

DS2 has very strong views on what is acceptable on the feeding front!

Helpmemyhairisterrible · 06/08/2018 21:34

I understand Cow and Gate and Aptamil are virtually the same thing. Same manufacturer.

Queenofthestress · 06/08/2018 21:34

Never mind I've bloody read it wrong! Sorry!
The aldi formula is meant to be the same as the old aptimil though

SilageMarner · 06/08/2018 21:36

Queen - by “only”, I don’t think the OP meant that was the only milk feed; I think she meant it only has to be a bottle at bed time so that her husband can give it to the baby.

SilageMarner · 06/08/2018 21:36

Queen - great minds!! Wink

SailAwayWithMeHuni · 06/08/2018 21:38

I’ve read lots of people have changed to the Aldi milk but I had reservations as my little girl reacted to a number of their other things.

I’ve changed to Hipp Organice and not only is it cheaper than aptimal, my little one seems to like it so much more.

Smurfy23 · 06/08/2018 21:40

We have left the formula stage but used to use cow and gate on occasion with no bother. Others on here have said their make up is quite similar

OFuckShitAndBollocks · 06/08/2018 21:45

Thank you so much for all the responses. I'll definitely have a look at some other ones. I hadn't heard about the Aldi one, thank you.

Bottlepanic I had similar with the 2 older ones!

Second thread I've read wrong today 😂😂

I've had a cracking migraine from the heat and two screaming small demons to wrangle all day - the youngest has just found the dredded screech 😂

DieAntword · 06/08/2018 21:50

I’ve never tasted it but most formula smells vile. Kendamil smells alright though, might taste better too. We use hipp though.

OFuckShitAndBollocks · 06/08/2018 22:04

I'm going to have a gonwith Aldi and Coe and Hate. Thanks all.

Queen my middle has that screech down to a fine art. The amount of times per day I'm trying to explain to her that if she makes that noise I can't understand and she needs to use words......o should get it tattooed onto my forehead only she can't read yet! 😂
