To tell my friend I’m pregnant by text

I’m only 5+3 but keen to tell close friends/family. Basically anyone who we would also be okay telling if we lost the pregnancy. My friend knows we’ve been trying but it’s happened very quickly for us, unfortunately my friend has been struggling (3+ years) and is now looking into IVF. We’re due to be seeing her and her husband for dinner this week and I think not drinking or pretending to drink would be noticeable.

Would it be unreasonable to tell her the news by text? Is this a cop out? How would I even word that? Not sure whether to mention their struggle or not. Any advice gratefully received!

Glad you had a good outcome BeeKeeping. I hope that you have a good pregnancy, and that your friend can cope. I hope that she gets pregnant soon too!

yay!!!

Yay, glad it went well. Text is always better for things people might need privacy to digest.

Oh yay all round. Nice one OP.

Definitely text is better. She can shout, scream or cry whatever she needs to do and you'll be none the wiser. I think making it a big thing and sitting her down and quietly telling her would be really cruel actually. (I know it's a big thing btw and congratulations chick) x

NIce to have an update OP thanks for this. And very well done.

You did way better than my SIL and BIL (usually lovely people) who did a surprise announcement with scan pics handed round at a full family meal at a restaurant. This was a week or two after my late MC which they all knew about. Bad memory that one!
