Outfit to wear on plane

Ginger1982 · 06/08/2018 14:15

So DH, DS and I are off on our first family holiday abroad next month. Shopping yesterday I bought a pair of wide legged, floaty trousers and a couple of t shirts to wear on the plane as opposed to jeans. Tried trousers on when I got home and they are so comfy. When paired with t shirt, DH commented it looked a bit as if I was wearing pyjamas. He has a slight point.

WIBU to wear the outfit anyway? It's a 4 hour flight where I'll probably be more concerned about occupying DS than whether or not I am a flying fashionista 😀

Wear it. Add a scarf and nice sandals and you'll look fab.

HaveSomeGrace · 06/08/2018 14:17

Wear it and be comfortable. Will you remember what the other passengers wore?

HolyMountain · 06/08/2018 14:19

I always wear what's comfy and what I think looks nice.

Don't forget something to keep you warm on the plane, I always get chilly.

NewYearNewMe18 · 06/08/2018 14:20

Planes are over airconditioned so you do end up getting chilly on them, so have a light weight jacket or wrap to hand

Thebluedog · 06/08/2018 14:20

Wear it! I always enjoy seeing what outfits some people wear on planes to go on holiday with Grin pjs Are quite tame Grin

AviatorShades · 06/08/2018 14:24

Wear it! Possibly add a pashmina if there's a night flight involved, cos the heating gets turned down. And I always take one of those do-nut things if I think I want to nap, tho perhaps not for 4hrs daytime flights? But something to consider..

crunchtime · 06/08/2018 14:26

watching this with interest. I am doing an 11 hour flight this week and am wondering what on earth will be comfy for all that time!

serbska · 06/08/2018 14:29

PJ like clothes (not ACTUAL PJs) on planes is fine in my eyes.

Comfy trousers that aren't tight on you. I like zip up jumpers or a cardi and a scarf so you can adjust to your desired temperature as it varies so much.

I never fly in jeans . . . . . loose linen trousers / genie pants are the way to go.

My flying "uniform" is trousers, a vest or t shirt with loose shirt over the top. Super lightweight padded jacket (Uniqlo) plus a pashmina. And a pair of warm socks in my bag just in case they whack up the air con!

Your outfit sounds perfect and practical. Enjoy this special "first" holiday!

AviatorShades · 06/08/2018 14:34

crunchtime the long haul ones are the ones I do a lot

Feet - they'll swell. I've always taken off my sandals before we've even started to taxi and replaced them with socks. So, a donut, pashmina-type layer, comfy jumpsuit etc and I'm good to go. But don't forget the socks Smile

Everyoneiswingingit · 06/08/2018 14:36

Sounds perfect. . I wear harem pants and a T=shirt normally. It would like PJs if I was in bed but with sandals/trainers and shades it looks like clothes!

Bramble71 · 06/08/2018 14:37

You could maybe accessorise the outfit, a nice long necklace or a scarf, so it looks a bit less like nightwear.

Comfy and loose is the way to go.

Bluelady · 06/08/2018 14:39

Wear it, comfort is all when you fly.

putters32 · 06/08/2018 14:39

Same here, I went for comfort and wore a long necklace to make it less PJ and more daytime!

Blobby10 · 06/08/2018 14:41

I'm flying on Thursday - transatlantic without children!! - and have a longing to look chic and sophisticated in a cream and navy ensemble of 3/4 trousers, T shirt and lightweight jacket with immaculate make-up and hair but in reality will probably look downtrodden, baggy and careworn! Tried to find some lightweight linen/cotton 3/4 trousers over the weekend with no luck so trying on leggings with a long T shirt dress and see how that looks. Being old-at-heart, I still feel I need to 'look smart' when travelling Smile

Ginger1982 · 06/08/2018 14:41

Thanks everyone! Feel better now!

Next question: the trousers are black with coffee coloured dots. One t shirt is black with a slogan, one is coffee coloured with a slogan (I actually didn't buy these intending them to go together!) Which one should I wear? First world problems I know!! 😂

Don't get linen trousers, they'll look awful at the end of the flight, creased to the max! I only wear linen when going to be standing, like at a party.

Everyoneiswingingit · 06/08/2018 14:44

Come on OP, doe sit matter? Sounds like they both go. Stop worrying.

ShotsFired · 06/08/2018 14:46

I am boarding in smartish jeans, nice top and my fitflop pumps (ace for walking miles on hard airport surfaces).

Once dinner is sorted and I am settling down for sleep, I'll change into soft stretchy trousers and a vest, with a thin cardi thing on top, some non-constricting socks and my complimentary plane slippers for loo trips etc. I'll have a duvet over me but they always slip off a bit and I get cold.

I then wash and freshen up and put on clean knickers and change back into first outfit when we're a couple hours out from landing.

whattimeislove · 06/08/2018 14:47

Either would be good. But take the one you don't wear in your hand luggage in case of spillages etc

Please tell me where you bought them !

Froglette16 · 06/08/2018 14:48

Plenty of A List types wear what you’re suggesting! With a few accessories as others have suggested you will rock the plane! Do pack a spare tee for you in your hand luggage in case DC has a moment. And go for dark trousers- better if DC is buckled onto you for landing as they don’t show marks. First flight with my DC1 - she overflowed a nappy on landing. I had light coloured trousers on and it looked like I’d had an accident myself!

SimonBridges · 06/08/2018 14:52

Where did you get wide legged floaty trousers from?

scortja · 06/08/2018 14:53

Apparently a cashmere tracksuit is the only way to go - and they REALLY look like pyjamas..

HoneyDragon · 06/08/2018 14:55

Your outfit sounds fine. Long haul to hot destinations I always wear a dress over thin leggings and take a cashmere wrap. Then before landing stash the wrap and leggings in my bag. (I also pack thick socks as I hate cold feet on the plane). The wrap is a godsend as the bloody kids alway nick my blanket Grin

Pj style is good for travelling imo. For the drive down France year I wore the Next leopard joggers S&B are currently raving about with a black vets top and light fitted denim shirt. They were suburb....didn’t look remotely rumpled after driving for eleven hours.

SnuggyBuggy · 06/08/2018 14:56

It sounds like a good plane outfit. I think the trick to a long flight is to treat it like a lazy day in front of the TV.
