To not accept that there is 'period poverty' in the UK.....?

rosetree7 · 05/08/2018 20:27

Fully expecting to be told I am BU, but I genuinely do not get this 'period poverty' malarkey.

Some reports say periods cost £42-45 a month (£500 a year.) Never in my life have I - or anyone else I know - spent £42-45 a MONTH on their period. Not even a tenth of that actually.

Some of the things they (supposedly) spend money on are tampons and STs (obviously...) You can get a pack of sanitary towels for less than a pound. Less than 50p in some shops!

And also mooncups.

Although mooncups cost £16 to £22, most mooncups will last 10 years, so you'd only buy 3 or 4 in your lifetime!!! And they also spend on pain relief - but paracetamol and ibuprofen are 16 to 26p a packet from Wilkos. And plenty of other shops sell them for a similar price!

Oh and apparently, they have to keep spending money on new underwear every month. What a load of shit.. I have bought 18 pairs of underpants in 5 years, (at a cost of around £25 for the entire 5 years!) 5 pairs of them are dark coloured - and I wear them for my periods. Never in my life have I bought new underpants for every new period.

So what is this all about? And how on earth are they coming up with such a ludicrous figure as £42-45 a month?! Confused I mean, some girls are apparently using toilet roll as they 'can't afford' sanitary towels? In most cases, toilet roll is more expensive than sanitary towels FGS!

Savvysaver you're way out of line luvvie and I'm reporting your nasty bitchy post

ResurrectedGoldfish · 07/08/2018 20:51

The birth of my children reopened psychological scars from being raped that have again taken years to heal. I’m due my third child in a month and am terrified, so again, thanks for that. Hope you’re glad you made your point.

NaomiNagata · 07/08/2018 20:52

@SavvySaver24

I don't use tampons or moon cups due to having had toxic shock syndrome previously. It is recommended that you do not use either of those products if you've suffered that before. So I won't risk it.

I still have sex.

Stop being a dick.

YeTalkShiteHen · 07/08/2018 20:53

ResurrectedGoldfish you don’t need to justify yourself to anyone, least of all that particular poster.

I’m sorry things are tough for you Flowers

NaomiNagata · 07/08/2018 20:54

There are plenty of reasons - past trauma or past illnesses - which prevent the use of those products. Using them and having sex have nothing to do with each other.

PortiaCastis · 07/08/2018 20:55

I really didnt think some folk could sink any lower but my thoughts were wrong

Nebularin · 07/08/2018 20:56

I've reported also. Agree you don't need to justify or explain yourself.

BishopBrennansArse · 07/08/2018 20:56

I've asked hq to consider whether savvy should have the ability to post suspended for their revolting posts.

YeTalkShiteHen · 07/08/2018 20:56

PortiaCastis me too Sad there are a couple of usernames which just keep popping up and saying increasingly hurtful or inflammatory things on here recently.

YeTalkShiteHen · 07/08/2018 20:56

I reported too, for the millionth time since Savvy appears to enjoy being cruel.

PortiaCastis · 07/08/2018 20:57

Well yes Bishops and their thread is quite grim also

Nebularin · 07/08/2018 20:57

Ah, AS shows that poster has form for goading on other threads!

BishopBrennansArse · 07/08/2018 20:58

Thing is yetalkshite (sorry but 😂) I've reported three individuals on this thread and hq said it's ok, these are 'genuine posters' and they'd have a word. Posters ignored hq and got worse, radio silence from hq.

PortiaCastis · 07/08/2018 20:58

Clearly being an arsehole is satisfactory to some

LeftRightCentre · 07/08/2018 20:58

This thread just keeps getting worse! What a nasty post, Savy.

YeTalkShiteHen · 07/08/2018 20:59

BishopBrennansArse wow I haven’t even had a response. I’m stunned at that! Especially given the racially motivated comment made the other day, I’d have thought they’d have wielded the ban hammer before now!

ResurrectedGoldfish · 07/08/2018 21:00

@YeTalkShiteHen (loving your username - extremely appropriate 😂) Thank you 😊 Don’t worry, I have a support network and lots of people behind me, but many many women and girls in the UK and abroad don’t. Which is why it pisses me off so very very much that some people seem really reluctant to countenance others’ perspective. Sorry, I shouldn’t have revealed so much personal info, I was just incensed 😂 xxx

YeTalkShiteHen · 07/08/2018 21:00

PortiaCastis I just found that little gem Hmm

CatchingBabies · 07/08/2018 21:00

Have you never met anyone with endometriosis? I’ve had to throw away trousers, socks and shoes nevermind underwear when my period has started unexpectedly. I can go through a pack of sanitary towels in a day, and I use tampons at the same time. I have a regular prescription of amitryptaline, tramadol and cocodamol to deal with the pain, 16p paracetamol isn’t going to touch it!

Not everyone is as lucky as you.

Lizzie48 · 07/08/2018 21:01

I agree, @SavvySaver24 should be banned, such disgusting posts! I could never use tampons either, because of my childhood SA trauma, and sexual intimacy has been very hard. It's not something to mock. Hmm

YeTalkShiteHen · 07/08/2018 21:02

ResurrectedGoldfish I’m so sorry if I made you feel you shouldn’t have said what you said, I really didn’t mean to. You can tell anyone what you want to tell us, I just felt uncomfortable that you’d been backed into a corner and felt you had to which was unfair and wrong.

You’re absolutely right, I’m glad you have a wonderful support network in RL, but your point that so many don’t is really valid.

Thank you, I have a Mhairi Black coffee mug with it on and it was beside me when I signed up again Grin

BishopBrennansArse · 07/08/2018 21:02

There's one up side. Red box project have already responded and I'm going to co ordinate a box in DS1's school.

YeTalkShiteHen · 07/08/2018 21:04

That’s good Bishop! My LA now does free san pro in schools (not often I’m proud of my LA 😂) and my football club now offers free san pro in all the women’s toilets (60k capacity so a LOT!) because they recognise it too.

PortiaCastis · 07/08/2018 21:06

I stand by my post of last night, folk wouldn't say such nasty vile things in RL because they'd get their face slapped
Yes Ye what a stoker that thread is

BishopBrennansArse · 07/08/2018 21:07

Out of interest which little gem is it? Did an AS and just saw pages of vile posts....
