to be stressing over a pram?

Looking for a travel system to fit in the tiny boot of my car. I'm not able to sell it as it belongs to a family member, I just use it and cannot afford a car of my own.

Because the boot is so small, there are only a handful of prams that fit in there. I'm looking at the mothercare orb all-terrain... was thinking about the babyzen yoyo but it's much too flimsy... it's so frustrating being so limited.

How important is it to have the perfect pram? Would I be mad just getting one that doesn't fit in my car? I know many parents don't drive. DP has a car but it is a company car so I don't have the option to drive it, however it is a big car so we can go out when he is here.

I'm just so lost. Too many prams. Don't want to buy something rubbish. Help!

Can you just put the frame in the car and the seat in the back. Would that work? Thats what I do when I go in my sisters car as they both dont fit in together.

Geraldeen · 03/08/2018 09:43

This is the size of my boot... it really is tiny even the chassis of most don't fit.

is this for a newborn or older? If over 3 months or so I highly recommend getting a car seat then just a stroller type buggy. Miles lighter and easier

AragonsGirl · 03/08/2018 09:45

I had a small car with my first. I also had no interest in spending a small fortune on a pram! Where I stay it’s all old fashioned silver cross pram a with flouncy, frilly covers etc. So I got the Mothercare orb because it would fit in my boot and didn’t cost the earth. Love it and it’s now being used by baby number 2

NotUmbongoUnchained · 03/08/2018 09:45

Does it have to be a travel system? They always seem like such a good idea but pretty much everyone I know sold there’s after the first 3 months and just got really robust 3 wheelers. Travel systems are big, hard to push around shops and hard to get into cars and busses.

One of the Cosatto models (can't remember which) is marketed as fitting in the boot of a Fiat 500

Geraldeen · 03/08/2018 09:48

@AragonsGirl would you recommend it? I think it's a really nice pram but have read some reviews that say it's not so great. I love that it fits in my car and is all terrain.

I'd get whatever pram you really want and then a second hand one that folds up tiny e.g. Quinny zap for when you use your car.

fizzicles · 03/08/2018 09:48

Would the Baby Jogger City Mini fit? You can take the wheels of very easily, and it golds very flat. It's not a travel system, but you can get car seat attachments and it's suitable from newborn. There is a great website which has the dimensions of sooo many different buggies, will see if I can find it. It's a few years since we bought ours.

toolonglurking · 03/08/2018 09:50

If your car is so small, why not try using a sling instead of a pram?
I bought a pram for DS1 and I think he spent a grand total of ten minutes in it and we just went everywhere with him in a sling. Then all you need is a car seat Smile

fizzicles · 03/08/2018 09:51

www.bestbuggy.co.uk

Loads of info and reviews including all the dimensions and how easy they are to fold

sweetpea2811 · 03/08/2018 09:52

I have the same car and went with the GB Pocket. Designed to be used for travelling it folds up the size of carry on luggage for a plane. Absolutely amazing and such a life saver. Also fits behind the passenger seat if the boot is full!

niknac1 · 03/08/2018 09:52

I can remember putting importance on choosing a pram but looking back, if I had to do it again I would definitely stick to my budget,( which I did), make sure it fitted in the boot ( which you are) and if possible physically see one of them rather than just internet shopping but sometimes stockists are too far so you may not get to see it in the flesh. I would also consider second hand as some people rarely use their prams.
I would not be worrying if my pram was trendy ( not saying you are).

AragonsGirl · 03/08/2018 09:53

@geraldeen yes, I love my orb. Easy to put up and down, easy to push and steer. Not a very big basket underneath but I didn’t find that a problem. I like the swivel feature as well, so they can be facing you when it’s been converted to pushchair rather than the flat pram

AragonsGirl · 03/08/2018 09:54

Oh, and the wheels are easy to take on and off which I have to do to fit it in my boot

StrongerThanIThought76 · 03/08/2018 09:55

Op don't bother with a pram. I'd go straight for a birth to whatever age foldable pushchair that comes with a car seat.

You need something that fits in your car. Believe me being stuck indoors with a baby can be soul-destroying sometimes - especially if it's just for the sake of a clumsy pram!

Di11y · 03/08/2018 09:55

How much will you use your car? The problem is you don't know what sort of baby you're going to get. I used the sling far more than pushchair with dd until she was 6mo when they can go in normal buggy.

The ability to transfer the car seat is handy when they are tiny.

Can you get a second hand orb and decent one for the rest of the time? Plus decent sling?

Namechange128 · 03/08/2018 09:56

Babyzen yo-yo is lightweight but not flimsy - ours is about to be called into duty for dc3! If you have enough space, the babyjogger city mini (or city mini gt if you want to go off road) could be great - they are larger but have a very neat fold and wheels are removable if needed. You can use the baby seat to rear face when small, or just lie them down as it goes fully flat, and they are supe robust. It's what we'd get if we weren't always running up and down tube stairs!

LouiseEH · 03/08/2018 09:57

I had the Mothercare orb a few years ago, which did fit into the boot but it was awkward and couldn’t fit anything else in there

I wish I had never bought the damn thing! It never got used, I now have a joie stroller and it’s so much easier and much less faffing about to set it up

Oysterbabe · 03/08/2018 09:57

You don't need a big travel system, you really don't. We got a cheap Joie umbrella fold for the nursery run and started using it all the time almost straight away and sold the travel system, it was a waste of money. If it lies flat and says it's suitable from birth then it's fine.

londonfeather · 03/08/2018 09:58

Mountain buggy swift is all terrain, one hand fold and fits into my tiny boot with room to spare

vandrew4 · 03/08/2018 09:59

With my first we had a big travel system. Absoloute waste of money

Geraldeen · 03/08/2018 10:00

@Namechange128 when I tried this one in the shop and with my niece (my sister has one) I just didn't get on with it. I tried to go across a park with it and it was really difficult for me. I found the wheels really small and only really good for pavement. I live in the middle of nowhere and like the idea of having an all-terrain!

Mymouthgetsmeintrouble · 03/08/2018 10:01

I would just get a lie flat stroller you can get a nice cosy toes for winter and often you can get them where the car seat clicks on
