Loud music on the beach

Mummymummums · 02/08/2018 13:45

Interested in others' thoughts.
Sitting on Bournemouth beach, busy but pleasant. Not a cloud in the sky. Gentle noises of children playing and families chatting.
Large group of 10-15 show up - from toddlers to (I assume) grandparents and various in between. They have put their music on VERY loud. Someone had a word. Music went quieter but still loud enough for anyone within 50 meters to hear. They then had a heads together chat in the group and decided to turn the music back up. They are between the lifeguard flags so busiest part of beach. Very loud music now for half hour.
They are most certainly not a group I'd go and have a word with. Obviously we could move but we're keen to be within lifeguarded area so I'd rather put up with it. Not my taste of music but can live with it.
We don't get to the beach much - is this an acceptable thing? Or AIBU in thinking this is entitled inconsiderate behaviour on a public beach?

Inconsiderate maybe but hardly a crime. Each to their own

Aprilshowersinjuly · 02/08/2018 13:51

Put your beach bags in the middle and start dancing around them....

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 02/08/2018 13:54

That would really piss me off but I probably wouldn't say anything, just move to another part of the beach.

maxthemartian · 02/08/2018 13:58

Very inconsiderate. Each to their own only works if it doesn't infringe on others. YANBU.

Mummymummums · 02/08/2018 14:04

Aprilshowers - good plan - but some of them have already started dancing. Reggae and house not my thing ..

You should have the right to lob their music device into the sea. Asshats.

Sadly no one anywhere ever seems inclined to try to stop this shite, so the world continues getting noisier.

Raven88 · 02/08/2018 14:13

I'm going to be in the minority but I love when someone plays music at the beach. It creates a fun atmosphere.

Mummymummums · 02/08/2018 14:13

I couldn't lob it anywhere - I wish! It's a portable amp size of small case

middleagedalready · 02/08/2018 14:18

I think it is selfish arsery to be honest but I am not a huge music fan at the best of times.
I always wish I too had a portable sound system for something like Wagner at these times!

LighthouseSouth · 02/08/2018 14:21

OP in that case someone needs an accident with an air gun.

Aggggh these wankers.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 02/08/2018 14:22

Arses.

Mari50 · 02/08/2018 14:28

It is totally inconsiderate, I love listening to music and I love listening to it properly, not just with headphones but I’m not arrogant enough to think everyone enjoys the same music as I do. Nor am I entitled enough to think I can play it in a public space.
Far too many people these days who are so far up their own arses they don’t give a damn about other people.

Mummymummums · 02/08/2018 14:41

I agree Mari50 and others who think it's inconsiderate. My thoughts too. It's not bothering me too much today but could another day. My choice would be 80s music but I wouldn't inflict it on others.
They've put the amp in their area now facing into them, not out towards the rest of the beach, so a bit quieter.
On a separate note now there's a drone low flying over everyone - no idea where that came from.

Quangot · 02/08/2018 14:45

YANBU. It's inconsiderate to force your style of music on everyone else. You can't opt out of hearing it blasted out. It's the beach equivalent of a road-hog.

luckycat007 · 02/08/2018 14:46

Sounds horrendous. That's people though eh, just move somewhere quieter if you can.

Mummymummums · 02/08/2018 14:47

Michael Jackson, don't stop till you get enough. Now blasting out. Quite like that. Still inconsiderate though.

I've recently joined a health club with an outside pool, which is wonderful in this hot weather. it's set up really nicely, with lots of sun loungers around it - you can pretend you are somewhere really nice.

Yesterday I overheard a couple of women discussing this facility. "They should set up a barbecue", said one. "And have a sound system".

No - just no! It's lovely just to just sit and listen to the sound of splashing coming from the pool, people chatting, the wind in the trees. I would absolutely hate to be sitting there with greasy barbecue smells and oily smoke wafting over me, coupled with a pounding beat. Urgh!

I think the thing is that some people feel that there is no difference between what they do in their own home / garden and what they do in public - irrespective of who they annoy in so doing.

Mummymummums · 02/08/2018 14:49

I would move Lucky except we're between lifeguard flags for going in sea so would like to stay between them. Music will be affecting most of this area between flags.

'Each to their own only works if it doesn't infringe on others'

Well exactly. Jeez.

Inconsiderate arseholes OP. They're everywhere. More and more people seem to act like they are in their own front room at all times, and anyone who doesn't like it can just shove off. Vile.

CraftyGin · 02/08/2018 14:54

It depends on whether the music is good or not.

Mummymummums · 02/08/2018 15:05

Yes, exactly, no awareness. One of them (an adult) just started spinning some long cord with something heavy on end in circles to show how agile he was at jumping over it and skipping over it as he whipped it through his legs. He appeared genuinely oblivious to the man he covered in sand and the man who ducked to miss being clonked round head.
They seem very relaxed.

OP posts:
LookAtIt · 02/08/2018 15:45

YANBU. They are obnoxious oiks

squashyhat · 02/08/2018 15:48

I assume for relaxed you mean pissed? Selfish arseholes.

LockedOutOfMN · 02/08/2018 15:52

Have you asked them to be quiet?

Mummyschnauzer · 02/08/2018 15:55

Walk past with a bucket of water off to make a sand castle, comedy trip, water everywhere all over the speaker????
