Loud music on the beach

Interested in others' thoughts.
Sitting on Bournemouth beach, busy but pleasant. Not a cloud in the sky. Gentle noises of children playing and families chatting.
Large group of 10-15 show up - from toddlers to (I assume) grandparents and various in between. They have put their music on VERY loud. Someone had a word. Music went quieter but still loud enough for anyone within 50 meters to hear. They then had a heads together chat in the group and decided to turn the music back up. They are between the lifeguard flags so busiest part of beach. Very loud music now for half hour.
They are most certainly not a group I'd go and have a word with. Obviously we could move but we're keen to be within lifeguarded area so I'd rather put up with it. Not my taste of music but can live with it.
We don't get to the beach much - is this an acceptable thing? Or AIBU in thinking this is entitled inconsiderate behaviour on a public beach?

pp asking, OP said someone had a word, they turned it down, then back up again.

maxthemartian · 02/08/2018 16:00

The problem is that inconsiderate types are very unlikely to offer an "oh I do apologise" and desist their twatty ways if you say something to them.
Far more likely to give you a mouthful of abuse, or even get violent if you're unlucky.
That's why people don't say anything.

UrsulaPandress · 02/08/2018 16:01

Have you got a dog? It could piss on the sound system.

We go to a friend's caravan on a lovely quiet site on Anglesey. The new neighbours had bloody Adele blasting out last time we went. So bloody inconsiderate. I think they got the message when I blasted out Radio 3 every time I started the car. Or maybe it was my loud tuneless accompaniment to their noise.

Roussette · 02/08/2018 16:01

why 'each to their own'??

So if I don't like their music choice, or I don't want to listen to music, I have to put up with it because 'each to their own'. No!

So what if another group comes on the beach and sets up 15 foot away and puts on their music at the same level. It would be horrendous so sorry, no, not each to their own. It's bloody selfish.

IloveJudgeJudy · 02/08/2018 16:02

Can't you speak to the lifeguards?

Mummymummums · 02/08/2018 16:24

No Squashy I mean stoned. It's unmistakable. Lifeguards are near but I don't think they're breaking any rules on sound as such as it's a public beach. The cannabis is another matter obvs.

UrsulaPandress · 02/08/2018 16:30

That's how I felt at the caravan. What if everyone did the same. It would be bedlam.

LighthouseSouth · 02/08/2018 16:37

I'm blasting out the Killers....on earphones at work!

each to their own is not a reason for being inconsiderate.

plus if they have weed they should share it out Grin

Mummymummums · 02/08/2018 16:54

The worst among them appears to be the mother/grandmother - she keeps turning the music up and if the others turn it down and say something she yells "I don't care about them" waving generally towards rest of beach. At least she's honest. She's definitely in charge.

LighthouseSouth · 02/08/2018 17:34

OP who else is on the beach?

I'm thinking about a rep from each beach group going to them and telling them to shut up. Though I appreciate results could be interesting....

MrsAidanTurner · 02/08/2018 17:47

Hilarious running commentary op.

It sounds like celebration of some sort.. If we ever did that I would rather have balloon up so people know its one off but its just selfish... Why not go to quieter part of beach?
I just feel sorry for people who live in small flats.. Made huge effort to get to beach for peace and being with nature and get that crap.

And as for the drone....

KittyHawke80 · 02/08/2018 18:18

I bit they’ll take every scrap of litter with them when they go, too . . .

LighthouseSouth · 02/08/2018 20:38

I think most of us living in small flats have learned that peace and quiet won't be found on a beach, not in that location anyway. Maybe up north in winter!

IceCreamFace · 02/08/2018 20:44

Inconsiderate maybe but hardly a crime. Each to their own But it's not really each to their own. The loud, inconsiderate people get their own way and everyone else on the beach has to put up with it.

OP YANBU I hate people playing loud music in public. It's obviously unreasonable and they tend to rely on the fact that they look intimidating so people don't like to confront them.

Piffpaffpoff · 02/08/2018 20:44

I’m getting really pissed off with drones this summer.

Drone owner - ‘ooh, I’ve got amazing photos of this lovely beauty spot to enjoy for ever’

Everyone else - ‘what the fuck is that noise?’

Selfish arseholery, spoiling everyone else’s enjoyment of a place for a photo.

Mummymummums · 02/08/2018 21:03

Obvs we have left now. Just before we left, as if prophecied by @Roussette another pair showed up with their sounds, and sat maybe 10 meters away. They swiftly realised they couldn't compete with the portable amp and turned theirs off thank god.
In a twist after my last post one of the mum's with toddler came up to me and asked, very politely, if I minded if her and her DD sat in the large hole my DS has dug. I said no problem (being spineless and aware we don't own the beach) and we had a chat while her DD filled in the hole. She was very nice - tbf although she was with the group she was on the fringes. Dreaded my DS returning and going hysterical about his hole.

The unruly dog would be the best option, but dogs probably are more likely to go next to the lifeguard's place.

Twerking9to5 · 02/08/2018 21:14

I had this recently on the beach. It really pisses me off, however much I try to just go with the flow.

Either they totally lack awareness of others or they don’t give a shit. Either way, they’re asses!!

Mummymummums · 02/08/2018 21:17

I don't think dogs are allowed on Bournemouth beach in August.
Drone and seagulls all got very close. Maybe a drone water bomber would be an idea I could patent Grin

OP posts:
LighthouseSouth · 02/08/2018 21:35

OP I would have said "no, unless you turn the music down".

Hadn't realised the drone thing was such in an issue now. Haven't been away since Wales a couple of years ago, would have been awful to have all those lovely valleys and babbling brooks ruined by drones. What is wrong with the world?!

Roussette · 02/08/2018 22:15

I think idiots like this put the music on as loud as they like with the attitude.. 'go on I dare you... challenge me... if you do I'll give you a mouthful'. It's a mixture of showing off to others in their party, and being entitled

Ignorant twats
