To have a luxury room

After DC1 I was diagnosed with pretty bad post natal depression. Self care went out the window for almost a year and I was left in a pretty terrible state.

3 years later I'm well again and pregnant with DC2 due in December. I'm trying to plan in lots of things to try and prevent the PND hell fire from returning.

I have joined a health club to make sure I have some 'me time' and ensure I'm getting those much needed endorphins.

We are very lucky to have a spare room and My other plan is to create a luxury room in it just for self care time. So either my husband or I can book in some time in the luxury room. This room will have zero baby or child elements and will be a haven for us to relax and just have some zen.

The things I would like to put in there are some lovely bath and body products, magazines, books, nice scent atomiser,

AIBU to ask if anyone had any great ideas of what they would put in the room to make it a real adult escape area to keep me on the straight and narrow as I'm lacking in inspiration.

Thanks a million

Big cushions, fleecy throws, noise cancelling headphones, coffee machine?

Timeforabiscuit · 30/07/2018 21:09

Really good headphones, maybe a vr headset where you can be in the bahamas.

Lock on the door

JontyDoggle37 · 30/07/2018 21:10

Sound system for lovely chill out music (and drowning out the crying baby the other parent is looking after). Cuddle chair (extra big armchair) with footstool. Reading lamp so you can turn the main light off and make it feel cosy. Lovely soft throws to snuggle in. Candles.

Nixen · 30/07/2018 21:13

A reclining chair, lovely scented candles, a zen garden

donkeysandzebras · 30/07/2018 21:13

I think I'd be tempted to keep it as a spare room and hire a night nanny once a week (or more if I could afford it). However zen a room in your house is, unless your house is the size of Buckingham Palace and this room is in one corner and the baby in a different corner, you are never going to be able to fully escape and get the relaxation and time you need.

Gardenpicnic · 30/07/2018 21:13

Make it soundproofed or you might find it doesn't work that well as a rest area...

Timeforabiscuit · 30/07/2018 21:14

Hobby stuff (instruments, painting, needle craft, models - nothing electronic)

Puzzles

Books of artwork, atlas or coffee table books

Good lighting, heated throw/fan

divafever99 · 30/07/2018 21:15

Ooh sounds lovely! Maybe a tassimo machine if you like coffee/latte/hot chocolate. If possible a single bed/sofa bed if you have room, then you can have the odd night off and catch up on some sleep. Hope you have a better time this time round op, pnd is awful.

JennyBlueWren · 30/07/2018 21:23

For me it would just be filled with books!

When I feel down I find the best thing for me is to get out for a bike ride or (baby and child free) walk. If I retreat at home (in bed with a book) then I can hear baby cry or DS decides to join me. If I get out I am physically away from it all and I'm sure the exercise helps too although coasting along seems as good as anything. It also helps.me deal.with work related stress.

Atalune · 30/07/2018 21:25

Noise cancelling head phones

Cushions and throws

Kneesbendarmstretchrarara · 30/07/2018 21:31

One of these for the warmth. Heaven.

Cantusethatname · 30/07/2018 21:37

I wouldn't let my husband in as he wouldn't leave it tidy.

happytobemrsg · 30/07/2018 21:39

A fantastic idea. A stash of REALLY luxurious chocolate. A massage chair thing?

susurration · 30/07/2018 21:40

a really, really comfortable chair.

TokyoSushi · 30/07/2018 21:42

I'm going to make one of these in our new house, but just for me!! Our new bedroom is a bit on the small side so I've kindly volunteered to put my drawers and hairdryer etc in the little spare room, I'm going to decorate it beautifully and not let any other bugger in there!!

TheShapeOfEwe · 30/07/2018 21:44

Lots of plants, tea / coffee station, TV with DVD player, nice candles

Bramble71 · 30/07/2018 21:44

Some lovely houseplants as they're said to help purify the air. Maybe some big, plump cushions to snuggle in to. Curtains with heavy linings to block out daylight, them some gentle lamps to make the atmosphere nice & cosy.

waterandlemonjuice · 30/07/2018 21:45

A tv with Netflix
Gorgeous bedding and pillows
Soft slippers or cashmere socks
A lavender eye mask
Hand cream
Great fluffy towels

letsdolunch321 · 30/07/2018 21:49

You need to put whatever makes you feel relaxed .... candles, oils, relaxing music, cuddly throws and comfy seating

MarshaBradyo · 30/07/2018 21:52

I’d concentrate on comfort with a really good sofa, air and light. So plants, sunshine through the windows, freshness and a soft rug plus a laptop for watching stuff

MarshaBradyo · 30/07/2018 21:53

In the winter evenings lamps and thick curtains

Di11y · 30/07/2018 21:58

Daylight lightbulbs

Ilovelblue · 30/07/2018 21:59

A Jo Malone scented reed diffuser - lime, basil and mandarin would be my preferred fragrance.

Slimmingsnake · 30/07/2018 22:00

Hot tub
