To wonder, in terms of dating sites, what "a bit of a belly" precisely means

From time to time, I see women on dating sites say in their profiles that they "don't mind a bit of a belly" on a man, but don't want to date anyone too heavy.

I'm just curious as to how most of you would define this? As a fat bloke myself, I often hesitate to consider messaging someone with this on their profile, as I'd hate to turn up on a first date and have someone be embarrassed that I was outside their usual parameter. I think there'd be a bit of shame felt all round.

Quite.

I think the assumption is that men put weight on on the belly first, then it goes elsewhere, or turns into a lot of a belly, not a bit. But either way, it’s a way of saying slightly overweight is ok

"I've seen a few profiles of larger men looking for 'nothing over 10 stone"

sexism hypocrisy and male entitlement Wow Such a turn on hmm*

See as much as I can see the hypocrisy in it - if someone is upfront what has he said is wrong? Yes he's overweight - that doesn't mean that he finds overweight women attractive? It's a fat bloke who doesn't fancy fat women - and?

Because its quite often the same blokes who moan about the women they go on dates with being picky eaters and "on a diet"

They want it both ways. Because they dont see women as people.

The screenshot of the tweet by Valerie at the top of this page sums it up.

Bizarre - I've never come across people like this - admittedly I've never been on a dating website though Confused

I think it's the male version of skinny fat.

Neither have i But ive read a lot of the dating threads on the Relationships board over the past 7 years and ive seen a lot of the attitudes that some have encountered on there.

And this is very common.

@pinkglitterandallthatjazz thats what i said .. hooking on looks means just that, not naive, just my phrasiology.

I've been on many dating sites. Main problem, well one of, is people not being realistic about what they actually look like, want to accentuate what they see as positive and hide the negative. Its stumbling around blindly in a sea of pictures.
