The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne. Absolutely wonderful book.

Feelingsad33 · 30/07/2018 19:55

Thanks all have downloaded good omens for now and have lots of others added to my want list. To give something back though my favourite sci fi books of the last few years have been children of time by Adrian Tchaikovsky and dark Eden by Chris Beckett. Probably my all time favourite though is Douglas Adams hitch hikers guide to the galaxy a trilogy in 4 parts.

I also second the 'Rivers of London' books, and thanks for the reminder about Spider World @BatteredBitties I must revisit that!

Elizabeth Is Missing by Emma Healey.
A Life Discarded: 148 Diaries Found In A Skip by Alexander Masters
The Hunger Games trilogy (if you haven't already read them)

Our Endless Numbered Days by Claire Fuller is a fantastic book. It really stuck with me for some reason, I read it a couple of years ago and I still think about it surprisingly often.

A non-fiction but absolutely enthralling book is The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot.

The Adversary by Emanuel Carrere is unputdownable.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 31/07/2018 23:02

Have you read The Turing Test by Chris Beckett @Feelingsad33 it's a short story collection and I loved it

Gottensomedraws · 31/07/2018 23:25

‘We are all completely beside ourselves’ - really unusual book, but I won’t give the plot away!. ‘ His bloody project ‘ a historical murder mystery - really good too! My fave book club book is ‘A place called winter’ by Patrick Gale, and another I enjoyed is A Gentleman in Moscow ( which is due to be a film soon I think) . Happy reading xx

LEELULUMPKIN · 31/07/2018 23:31

Fiction or factual OP? If you like historical biographies I can recommend a few.

Binkybix · 01/08/2018 07:30

Children of Time was excellent Sci-fi.

Binkybix · 01/08/2018 07:39

Sorry - just saw that you mentioned this already.

We, the Drowned was a strange book, but it’s stuck with me. Some bits I loved, others not so much but I think it’s worth a read.

DH keeps going on about a trilogy called ‘The body problem’ - said it’s in his top ten ever and he does read a lot

dellie84 · 01/08/2018 14:03

Everyone should read “this is going to hurt” it’s a doctors diary and I laughed so hard - i could stop reading it out to anyone who would listen! it is also horrible and wonderful! Can’t recommend enough!

I love crime books - close to home (debut and the second book in my opinion is eve. Better!) and Lisa Jewell “then she was gone” - both proper page turners!!

I’ll take any detective /thriller / crime recommendations!

LockedOutOfMN · 01/08/2018 16:13
