To ask the vicar!?

...... to sort out their tree!?

Over the weekend, the High winds caused a branch to literally crack and hang down - the tree is in the graveyard, situated behind our house. Our house is lower than the graveyard and the tree hangs over us:

The branch that is hanging is around 20ft long, the branch width is around 3ft - so it's a big blighter!

I don't want it to take out the fence when it eventually drops.

The vicar says it's not the churches responsibility (?) and that hallowed ground belongs to the local council... but the council say they don't own this bit of land.

Aibu to think, the vicar is trying to get out of paying for a tree surgeon?

Still can't see the diagram...could someone repost it please?

WeeDangerousSpike · 30/07/2018 09:20

@FuzzyCustard - can you see it now?

snuffykins · 30/07/2018 11:24

I think I love your handwriting even more than I love the diagram.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 30/07/2018 11:38

Amazing diagram - absolutely superb!

Everyone I think the bar can't get higher, a person of your artistic calibre raises it yet again

Second suggestion to contact diocesan office. Churches are strapped for cash, but you don't want anybody hurt.

I particularly love your seagull. i hope you are looking after it - feeding it sardines, chips, cornet ends etc. they are a protected species now, you know.

LadyChatterlysLoofah · 30/07/2018 11:46

Check your local council website? Ours clearly posts municipal cemeteries, including those originally Churchyards, and has a dedicated department and phone numbers for appropriate enquiries. If yours is the same, and this one is not included, then surely it must be Church land (and thus their responsibility!). Mention the danger, and ask if they're insured for injuries caused? But love your seagull Smile

Chocolush · 30/07/2018 11:50

So lovely that you mentioned your dead neighbours. They always seem to get left out of stuff Grin

OP - we had a very similar situation, (we are neighbours with a Church & Vicarage- no dead people though! Grin ) The branches were hanging over our side but their tree. It was absolutely the Diocese's responsibility & they duly arranged a tree surgeon.

I would recommend you contact the Church Diocese if the Vicar is not helpful- Fingers crossed though the little man in the tree may be solving the problem already!

RiceBurner · 30/07/2018 14:11

I agree with everyone else - awesome drawing!

And awesome trees there OP! (Only problem with trees that size is when they fall over or when bits fall off as you are now facing.)

Will the seagull protection league (or similar) pay to take the branch off (if no-one else will) in case it kills the baby on your roof? (Might as well make use of it being up there OP?!)

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/07/2018 14:35

Nice! It's good when there is Mumsnet diagram karma. Post a good diagram, a little man will come and sort out your problem.

outofnames · 30/07/2018 17:07

Anyone else think the diagram now needs amending to include the little man with hard hat and chain saw......?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 30/07/2018 17:25

. . . and I'm sure I saw a squirrel - there, behind that leaf . . .

Yes there is!

You're just not looking properly . . .

howmuchwoodwouldawoodchuckchuc · 30/07/2018 17:45

I'd ring the parish office and have them follow up with the churchwarden, this type of thing will come under their remit rather than a vicar. I'd also email or ring the local parish council. Some of our bits of churchyard are owned by the church and some by the parish council, but all of it is maintained by the parish council. Good luck and love the diagram!

Brilliant!
A well-performed chainsaw tree ballet truly is an art form, I'm glad you've commemorated it.
